< Matthew 28 >

1 Now late on the Sabbath, when the dawn of the first day of the week was near, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the place where his body was.
After the Sabbath, in the early dawn of the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala and the other Mary came to see the sepulchre.
2 And there was a great earth-shock; for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, rolling back the stone, took his seat on it.
But to their amazement there had been a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord had descended from Heaven, and had come and rolled back the stone, and was sitting upon it.
3 His form was shining like the light, and his clothing was white as snow:
His appearance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow.
4 And for fear of him the watchmen were shaking, and became as dead men.
For fear of him the guards trembled violently, and became like dead men.
5 And the angel said to the women, Have no fear: for I see that you are searching for Jesus, who was put to death on the cross.
But the angel said to the women, "As for you, dismiss your fears. I know that it is Jesus that you are looking for--the crucified One.
6 He is not here, for he has come to life again, even as he said. Come, see the Lord's resting-place.
He is not here: He has come back to life, as He foretold. Come and see the place where He lay.
7 And go quickly and give his disciples the news that he has come back from the dead, and is going before you into Galilee; there you will see him, as I have said to you.
And go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead and is going before you into Galilee: there you shall see Him. Remember, I have told you."
8 And they went away quickly, with fear and great joy, to give his disciples the news.
They quickly left the tomb and ran, still terrified but full of unspeakable joy, to carry the news to His disciples.
9 And on the way, Jesus came to them, saying, Be glad. And they came and put their hands on his feet, and gave him worship.
And then suddenly they saw Jesus coming to meet them. "Peace be to you," He said. And they came and clasped His feet, bowing to the ground before Him.
10 Then said Jesus to them, Have no fear: go and give word to my brothers to go into Galilee, and there they will see me.
Then He said, "Dismiss all fear! Go and take word to my brethren to go into Galilee, and there they shall see me."
11 Now, while they were going, some of the watchmen came into the town and gave news to the chief priests of all the things which had taken place.
While they went on this errand, some of the guards came into the city and reported to the High Priests every detail of what had happened.
12 And when they had come together with those in authority, and had made their decision, they gave much money to the watchmen, saying,
So the latter held a conference with the Elders, and after consultation with them they heavily bribed the soldiers,
13 Say, His disciples came by night and took him away secretly while we were sleeping.
telling them to say, "His disciples came during the night and stole his body while we were asleep."
14 And if this comes to the ruler's ears, we will see that he does not make you responsible.
"And if this," they added, "is reported to the Governor, we will satisfy him and screen you from punishment."
15 So they took the money, and did as they had been ordered: and this account has been current among the Jews till the present time.
So they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this story was noised about among the Jews, and is current to this day.
16 But the eleven disciples went into Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had given them orders to go.
As for the eleven disciples, they proceeded into Galilee, to the hill where Jesus had arranged to meet them.
17 And when they saw him they gave him worship: but some were in doubt.
There they saw Him and prostrated themselves before Him. Yet some doubted.
18 And Jesus came to them and said, All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.
Jesus however came near and said to them, "All power in Heaven and over the earth has been given to me.
19 Go then, and make disciples of all the nations, giving them baptism in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit:
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations; baptize them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit;
20 Teaching them to keep all the rules which I have given you: and see, I am ever with you, even to the end of the world. (aiōn g165)
and teach them to obey every command which I have given you. And remember, I am with you always, day by day, until the Close of the Age." (aiōn g165)
