Deuteronomy 32
1 Give ear, O heavens, to my voice; let the earth take note of the words of my mouth:
Cieux, prêtez l'oreille, et je parlerai. Que la terre entende les paroles de ma bouche.
2 My teaching is dropping like rain, coming down like dew on the fields; like rain on the young grass and showers on the garden plants:
Ma doctrine tombera comme la pluie. Mon discours se condensera comme la rosée, comme la pluie brumeuse sur l'herbe tendre, comme les averses sur l'herbe.
3 For I will give honour to the name of the Lord: let our God be named great.
Car je proclamerai le nom de Yahvé. Attribuez la grandeur à notre Dieu!
4 He is the Rock, complete is his work; for all his ways are righteousness: a God without evil who keeps faith, true and upright is he.
The Rock: son travail est parfait, car toutes ses voies sont justes. Un Dieu de fidélité qui ne fait pas de mal, Il est juste et droit.
5 They have become false, they are not his children, the mark of sin is on them; they are an evil and hard-hearted generation.
Ils l'ont corrompu. Ils ne sont pas ses enfants, à cause de leur défaut. C'est une génération perverse et tordue.
6 Is this your answer to the Lord, O foolish people and unwise? Is he not your father who has given you life? He has made you and given you your place.
Est-ce ainsi que vous remboursez Yahvé, des gens stupides et imprudents? N'est-ce pas ton père qui t'a acheté? Il vous a fait et vous a établi.
7 Keep in mind the days of the past, give thought to the years of generations gone by: go to your father and he will make it clear to you, to the old men and they will give you the story.
Souviens-toi des jours d'autrefois. Considérez les années de plusieurs générations. Demande à ton père, et il te montrera; vos aînés, et ils vous le diront.
8 When the Most High gave the nations their heritage, separating into groups the children of men, he had the limits of the peoples marked out, keeping in mind the number of the children of Israel.
Quand le Très-Haut donna aux nations leur héritage, quand il a séparé les enfants des hommes, il a fixé les limites des peuples selon le nombre des enfants d'Israël.
9 For the Lord's wealth is his people; Jacob is the land of his heritage.
Car le partage de Yahvé, c'est son peuple. Jacob est le lot de son héritage.
10 He came to him in the waste land, in the unpeopled waste of sand: putting his arms round him and caring for him, he kept him as the light of his eye.
Il le trouva dans une terre déserte, dans le désert hurlant. Il l'a entouré. Il se souciait de lui. Il l'a gardé comme la prunelle de ses yeux.
11 As an eagle, teaching her young to make their flight, with her wings outstretched over them, takes them up on her strong feathers:
Comme un aigle qui remue son nid, qui flottent sur ses jeunes, il a déployé ses ailes, il les a pris, il les portait sur ses plumes.
12 So the Lord only was his guide, no other god was with him.
Yahvé seul l'a conduit. Il n'y avait pas de dieu étranger avec lui.
13 He put him on the high places of the earth, his food was the increase of the field; honey he gave him out of the rock and oil out of the hard rock;
Il l'a fait monter sur les hauts lieux de la terre. Il a mangé les fruits des champs. Il lui a fait sucer le miel de la roche, l'huile de la roche silex;
14 Butter from his cows and milk from his sheep, with fat of lambs and sheep of Bashan, and goats, and the heart of the grain; and for your drink, wine from the blood of the grape.
le beurre du troupeau, et le lait du troupeau, avec de la graisse d'agneau, des béliers de la race de Bashan, et des chèvres, avec le meilleur des blés. Du sang du raisin, vous avez bu du vin.
15 But Jeshurun became fat and would not be controlled: you have become fat, you are thick and full of food: then he was untrue to the God who made him, giving no honour to the Rock of his salvation.
Mais Jeshurun devint gras, et donna des coups de pied. Tu as grossi. Tu es devenu épais. Vous êtes devenu élégant. Puis il a abandonné Dieu qui l'a créé, et a rejeté le Rocher de son salut.
16 The honour which was his they gave to strange gods; by their disgusting ways he was moved to wrath.
Ils l'ont excité à la jalousie avec des dieux étrangers. Ils l'ont irrité par des abominations.
17 They made offerings to evil spirits which were not God, to gods who were strange to them, which had newly come up, not feared by your fathers.
Ils sacrifiaient aux démons, pas à Dieu, à des dieux qu'ils ne connaissaient pas, aux nouveaux dieux qui sont apparus récemment, que vos pères n'ont pas redouté.
18 You have no thought for the Rock, your father, you have no memory of the God who gave you birth.
Vous ne vous souvenez pas du Rocher qui est devenu votre père, et vous avez oublié le Dieu qui vous a donné la vie.
19 And the Lord saw with disgust the evil-doing of his sons and daughters.
L'Éternel a vu et abhorré, à cause de la provocation de ses fils et de ses filles.
20 And he said, My face will be veiled from them, I will see what their end will be: for they are an uncontrolled generation, children in whom is no faith.
Il a dit: « Je leur cacherai ma face. Je verrai ce que sera leur fin; car c'est une génération très perverse, des enfants en qui il n'y a pas de fidélité.
21 They have given my honour to that which is not God, moving me to wrath with their false worship: I will give their honour to those who are not a people, moving them to wrath by a foolish nation,
Ils m'ont excité à la jalousie par ce qui n'est pas Dieu. Ils m'ont provoqué à la colère par leurs vanités. Je les pousserai à la jalousie envers ceux qui ne sont pas un peuple. Je les provoquerai à la colère d'une nation insensée.
22 For my wrath is a flaming fire, burning to the deep parts of the underworld, burning up the earth with her increase, and firing the deep roots of the mountains. (Sheol h7585)
Car un feu s'est allumé dans ma colère, qui brûle jusqu'au plus profond du Sheol, dévore la terre avec son accroissement, et met le feu aux fondations des montagnes. (Sheol h7585)
23 I will send a rain of troubles on them, my arrows will be showered on them.
« Je les accablerai de maux. Je vais dépenser mes flèches pour eux.
24 They will be wasted from need of food, and overcome by burning heat and bitter destruction; and the teeth of beasts I will send on them, with the poison of the worms of the dust.
Ils seront épuisés par la faim, et dévorés par une chaleur brûlante et une destruction amère. J'enverrai sur eux les dents des animaux, avec le venin des vipères qui glissent dans la poussière.
25 Outside they will be cut off by the sword, and in the inner rooms by fear; death will take the young man and the virgin, the baby at the breast and the grey-haired man.
Dehors l'épée arrachera, et dans les chambres, la terreur sur le jeune homme et la vierge, le nourrisson avec l'homme aux cheveux gris.
26 I said I would send them wandering far away, I would make all memory of them go from the minds of men:
J'ai dit que je les disperserais au loin. Je ferais en sorte que leur souvenir disparaisse d'entre les hommes;
27 But for the fear that their haters, uplifted in their pride, might say, Our hand is strong, the Lord has not done all this.
si je ne craignais la provocation de l'ennemi, de peur que leurs adversaires ne jugent mal, de peur qu'ils ne disent: « Notre main s'est élevée »; Yahvé n'a pas fait tout cela. »
28 For they are a nation without wisdom; there is no sense in them.
Car c'est une nation sans conseil. Il n'y a aucune compréhension en eux.
29 If only they were wise, if only this was clear to them, and they would give thought to their future!
Oh, qu'ils soient sages, qu'ils comprennent cela, qu'ils considèrent leur fin dernière!
30 How would it be possible for one to overcome a thousand, and two to send ten thousand in flight, if their rock had not let them go, if the Lord had not given them up?
Comment un seul pourrait-il chasser un millier, et deux ont mis en fuite dix mille personnes, à moins que leur Rock ne les ait vendus, et Yahvé les avait livrés?
31 For their rock is not like our Rock, even our haters themselves being judges.
Car leur rocher n'est pas comme notre rocher, que même nos ennemis eux-mêmes concèdent.
32 For their vine is the vine of Sodom, from the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are the grapes of evil, and the berries are bitter:
Car leur vigne est de la vigne de Sodome, des champs de Gomorrhe. Leurs raisins sont des raisins empoisonnés. Leurs grappes sont amères.
33 Their wine is the poison of dragons, the cruel poison of snakes.
Leur vin est le poison des serpents, le venin cruel des aspics.
34 Is not this among my secrets, kept safe in my store-house?
« N'est-ce pas là ce qui est mis en réserve chez moi, scellé parmi mes trésors?
35 Punishment is mine and reward, at the time of the slipping of their feet: for the day of their downfall is near, sudden will be their fate.
A moi la vengeance, la rétribution! au moment où leur pied glisse, car le jour de leur calamité est proche. Leur destin se précipite sur eux. »
36 For the Lord will be judge of his people, he will have pity for his servants; when he sees that their power is gone, there is no one, shut up or free.
Car Yahvé jugera son peuple, et avoir de la compassion pour ses serviteurs, quand il voit que leur pouvoir a disparu, qu'il n'y a plus personne qui reste, enfermé ou laissé en liberté.
37 And he will say, Where are their gods, the rock in which they put their faith?
Il dira: « Où sont leurs dieux? le rocher dans lequel ils se sont réfugiés,
38 Who took the fat of their offerings, and the wine of their drink offering? Let them now come to your help, let them be your salvation.
qui mangeaient la graisse de leurs sacrifices, et buvaient le vin de leur libation? Laissez-les se lever et vous aider! Laissez-les être votre protection.
39 See now, I myself am he; there is no other god but me: giver of death and life, wounding and making well: and no one has power to make you free from my hand.
« Voyez maintenant que c'est moi qui suis lui. Il n'y a pas de dieu avec moi. Je tue et je fais vivre. Je blesse et je guéris. Il n'y a personne qui puisse délivrer de ma main.
40 For lifting up my hand to heaven I say, By my unending life,
Car je lève ma main vers le ciel et je déclare, comme je vis pour toujours,
41 If I make sharp my shining sword, and my hand is outstretched for judging, I will give punishment to those who are against me, and their right reward to my haters.
si j'aiguise mon épée étincelante, ma main la saisit en guise de jugement; Je me vengerai de mes adversaires, et rendra la pareille à ceux qui me haïssent.
42 I will make my arrows red with blood, my sword will be feasting on flesh, with the blood of the dead and the prisoners, of the long-haired heads of my haters.
Je vais rendre mes flèches ivres de sang. Mon épée dévorera la chair avec le sang des tués et des captifs, de la tête des chefs de l'ennemi. »
43 Be glad, O you his people, over the nations; for he will take payment for the blood of his servants, and will give punishment to his haters, and take away the sin of his land, for his people.
Réjouissez-vous, nations, avec son peuple, car il vengera le sang de ses serviteurs. Il se vengera de ses adversaires, et fera l'expiation pour son pays et pour son peuple.
44 So Moses said all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he and Hoshea, the son of Nun.
Moïse vint et prononça toutes les paroles de ce cantique aux oreilles du peuple, lui et Josué, fils de Nun.
45 And after saying all this to the people,
Moïse acheva de réciter toutes ces paroles à tout Israël.
46 Moses said to them, Let the words which I have said to you today go deep into your hearts, and give orders to your children to do every word of this law.
Il leur dit: « Fixez votre cœur à toutes les paroles que je vous annonce aujourd'hui, que vous ordonnerez à vos enfants d'observer et de mettre en pratique, toutes les paroles de cette loi.
47 And this is no small thing for you, but it is your life, and through this you may make your days long in the land which you are going over Jordan to take for your heritage.
Car ce n'est pas une chose vaine pour vous, car il s'agit de votre vie, et c'est par elle que vous prolongerez vos jours dans le pays où vous passerez le Jourdain pour le posséder. »
48 That same day the Lord said to Moses,
Ce même jour, Yahvé parla à Moïse et dit:
49 Go up into this mountain of Abarim, to Mount Nebo in the land of Moab opposite Jericho; there you may see the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel for their heritage:
« Monte sur cette montagne d'Abarim, sur le mont Nebo, qui est dans le pays de Moab, en face de Jéricho, et regarde le pays de Canaan que je donne en propriété aux enfants d'Israël.
50 And let death come to you on the mountain where you are going, and be put to rest with your people; as death came to Aaron, your brother, on Mount Hor, where he was put to rest with his people:
Tu mourras sur la montagne où tu montes, et tu seras recueilli auprès de ton peuple, comme Aaron, ton frère, est mort sur la montagne de Hor, et a été recueilli auprès de son peuple;
51 Because of your sin against me before the children of Israel at the waters of Meribath Kadesh in the waste land of Zin; because you did not keep my name holy among the children of Israel.
parce que vous m'avez offensé au milieu des enfants d'Israël, aux eaux de Meriba de Kadès, dans le désert de Tsin, parce que vous n'avez pas maintenu ma sainteté au milieu des enfants d'Israël.
52 So you will see the land before you, but you will not go into the land which I am giving to the children of Israel.
Car vous verrez le pays de loin; mais vous n'irez pas là dans le pays que je donne aux enfants d'Israël. »
