1 Timothy 5
1 Do not say sharp words to one who has authority in the church, but let your talk be as to a father, and to the younger men as to brothers:
Al anciano no reprendas con dureza, mas exhórta le como a padre; a los jóvenes, como a hermanos;
2 To the older women as to mothers, to the younger as to sisters, with a clean heart.
A las ancianas, como a madres; a las jóvenes, como a hermanas, con toda pureza:
3 Give honour to widows who are truly widows.
A las viudas honra, a las que de verdad son viudas:
4 But if any widow has children or children's children, let these see that it is right to take care of their family and their fathers and mothers: for this is pleasing in the eyes of God.
Empero si alguna viuda tuviere hijos, o nietos, aprendan primero a manifestar la piedad en casa, y a recompensar a sus padres; porque esto es honesto y acepto delante de Dios.
5 Now she who is truly a widow and without family puts her hope in God, giving herself to prayer day and night.
Y la que de verdad es viuda y solitaria, espera en Dios, y persiste en suplicaciones y oraciones noche y día.
6 But she who gives herself to pleasure is dead while she is living.
Porque la que vive en delicias, viviendo está muerta.
7 Give orders to this effect, so that no evil may be said of anyone.
Denuncia pues estas cosas, para que sean irreprensibles.
8 If anyone has no care for his family and those in his house, he is false to the faith, and is worse than one who has no faith.
Mas si alguno no tiene cuidado de los suyos, y mayormente de los de su casa, ha negado la fe, y es peor que el infiel.
9 Let no woman be numbered among the widows who is under sixty years old, and only if she has been the wife of one man,
La viuda sea puesta en oficio siendo no menos que de sesenta años, la cual haya sido mujer de un varón:
10 And if witness is given of her good works; if she has had the care of children, if she has been kind to travellers, washing the feet of the saints, helping those who are in trouble, giving herself to good works.
Que tenga testimonio en buenas obras; si ha criado hijos; si ha hospedado; si ha lavado los pies de los santos; si ha socorrido a los que han padecido aflicción; si ha seguido toda buena obra.
11 But to the younger widows say No: for when their love is turned away from Christ, they have a desire to be married;
Mas a las viudas más mozas no admitas: que desde que han vivido disolutamente contra Cristo, quieren casarse:
12 And they are judged because they have been false to their first faith;
Condenadas ya, por haber abandonado la primera fe.
13 And they get into the way of doing no work, going about from house to house; and not only doing no work, but talking foolishly, being over-interested in the business of others, saying things which they have no right to say.
Y asimismo también son ociosas, enseñadas a andar de casa en casa; y no solamente ociosas, empero aun parleras y curiosas, parlando lo que no conviene.
14 So it is my desire that the younger widows may be married and have children, controlling their families, and giving the Evil One no chance to say anything against them,
Quiero, pues, que las mozas se casen, paran hijos, gobiernen la casa, y que ninguna ocasión den al adversario para decir mal.
15 For even now some are turned away to Satan.
Porque ya algunas han vuelto atrás en pos de Satanás.
16 If any woman of the faith has relations who are widows, let her give them help, so that the care of them does not come on the church, and so it may give help to those who are truly widowed.
Y si alguno, o alguna de los creyentes tiene viudas, manténgalas, y no sea cargada la iglesia; para que pueda socorrer a las que de verdad son viudas.
17 Let rulers whose rule is good be honoured twice over, specially those whose work is preaching and teaching.
Los ancianos que gobiernan bien, sean tenidos por dignos de doblada honra; y mayormente los que trabajan en la palabra y doctrina.
18 For the Writings say, It is not right to keep the ox from taking the grain when he is crushing it. And, The worker has a right to his reward.
Que la Escritura dice: No embozalarás al buey que trilla. Y: Digno es el obrero de su jornal.
19 Do not take as true any statement made against one in authority, but only if two or three give witness to it.
Contra el anciano no recibas acusación, sino ante dos o tres testigos.
20 Say sharp words to sinners when all are present, so that the rest may be in fear.
A los que pecaren repréndelos delante de todos, para que los otros también teman.
21 I give you orders before God and Christ Jesus and the angels of God's selection, to keep these orders without giving thought to one side more than another.
Te requiero delante de Dios, y del Señor Jesu Cristo, y de sus ángeles escogidos, que guardes estas cosas sin preocupación, que nada hagas por parcialidad.
22 Do not put hands on any man without thought, and have no part in other men's sins: keep yourself clean.
No impongas ligeramente las manos sobre alguno, ni seas participante en pecados ajenos: consérvate puro a ti mismo.
23 Do not take only water as your drink, but take a little wine for the good of your stomach, and because you are frequently ill.
No bebas de aquí adelante agua, sino usa de un poco de vino por causa del estómago, y de tus continuas enfermedades.
24 The sins of some men are clearly seen, going before them to be judged; but with others, their sins go after them.
Los pecados de algunos hombres son manifiestos ya, yendo delante de ellos a juicio: a otros les vienen después.
25 In the same way, there are good works which are clearly seen; and those which are not so, may not be kept secret.
Asimismo también las buenas obras de algunos son manifiestas de antemano; y las que son de otra manera, no se pueden esconder.
