1 Thessalonians 5

1 But about the times and their order, my brothers, there is no need for me to say anything to you.

Empero acerca de los tiempos y de los momentos, no tenéis, hermanos, necesidad de que yo os escriba:

2 For you yourselves have the knowledge that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

Porque vosotros sabéis perfectamente, que el día del Señor, como ladrón en la noche, así vendrá.

3 When they say, There is peace and no danger, then sudden destruction will come on them, as birth-pains on a woman with child; and they will not be able to get away from it.

Que cuando dirán: Paz y seguridad: entonces vendrá sobre ellos destrucción de repente, como los dolores del parto sobre la mujer preñada; y no escaparán.

4 But you, my brothers, are not in the dark, for that day to overtake you like a thief:

Mas vosotros, hermanos, no estáis en tinieblas, para que aquel día os agarre como ladrón.

5 For you are all sons of light and of the day: we are not of the night or of the dark.

Porque todos vosotros sois hijos de la luz, e hijos del día: no somos hijos de la noche, ni hijos de las tinieblas.

6 So then, let us not take our rest as the others do, but let us be self-controlled and awake.

Así, pues, no durmamos como los demás; antes velemos y seamos sobrios.

7 For those who are sleeping do so in the night; and those who are the worse for drink are so in the night;

Porque los que duermen, de noche duermen; y los que están borrachos, de noche están borrachos.

8 But let us, who are of the day, be serious, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and on our heads, the hope of salvation.

Mas nosotros, que somos hijos del día, seamos sobrios, vistiéndonos de la coraza de fe, y de amor, y por almete de la esperanza de salud.

9 For God's purpose for us is not wrath, but salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Porque no nos ha puesto Dios para ira, sino para alcanzar salud por medio de nuestro Señor Jesu Cristo:

10 Who was put to death for us, so that, awake or sleeping, we may have a part in his life.

El cual murió por nosotros; para que, o que velemos, o que durmamos, vivamos juntamente con él.

11 So then, go on comforting and building up one another, as you have been doing.

Por lo cual consoláos los unos a los otros, y edificáos uno a otro, así como lo hacéis.

12 But we make this request to you, my brothers: give attention to those who are working among you, who are over you in the Lord to keep order among you;

Y, os rogamos, hermanos, que reconozcáis a los que trabajan entre vosotros, y os presiden en el Señor, y os amonestan;

13 And have a high opinion of them in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

Y que los tengáis en la mayor estima, amándolos a causa de su obra: tenéd paz entre vosotros mismos.

14 And our desire is that you will keep control over those whose lives are not well ordered, giving comfort to the feeble-hearted, supporting those with little strength, and putting up with much from all.

Os exhortamos, pues, hermanos, que amonestéis a los que andan desordenadamente, que consoléis a los de poco ánimo, que soportéis a los flacos, que seáis sufridos para con todos.

15 Let no one give evil for evil; but ever go after what is good, for one another and for all.

Mirád que ninguno dé a otro mal por mal; antes seguíd siempre lo bueno los unos para con los otros, y para con todos.

16 Have joy at all times.

Estád siempre gozosos.

17 Keep on with your prayers.

Orád sin cesar.

18 In everything give praise: for this is the purpose of God in Christ Jesus for you.

En todo dad gracias; porque esta es la voluntad de Dios en Cristo Jesús acerca de vosotros.

19 Do not put out the light of the Spirit;

No apaguéis el Espíritu.

20 Do not make little of the words of the prophets;

No menospreciéis las profecías.

21 Let all things be tested; keep to what is good;

Examinádlo todo: retenéd lo que fuere bueno.

22 Keep from every form of evil.

Apartáos de toda apariencia de mal.

23 And may the God of peace himself make you holy in every way; and may your spirit and soul and body be free from all sin at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Y el mismo Dios de paz os santifique cabalmente; y que todo vuestro espíritu, y alma y cuerpo sean guardados irreprensibles para la venida del Señor nuestro Jesu Cristo.

24 God, by whom you have been marked out in his purpose, is unchanging and will make it complete.

Fiel es el que os ha llamado, el cual también lo hará.

25 Brothers, keep us in mind in your prayers.

Hermanos, orád por nosotros.

26 Give all the brothers a holy kiss.

Saludád a todos los hermanos con beso santo.

27 I give orders in the name of the Lord that all the brothers are to be present at the reading of this letter.

Conjúroos por el Señor, que esta carta sea leída a todos los santos hermanos.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

La gracia de nuestro Señor Jesu Cristo sea con vosotros. Amén. La primera carta a los Tesalonicenses fue escrita de Aténas.
