Luke 3
1 In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cæsar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of Iturea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,
皇帝テベリオの治世の第十五年、ポンテオ・ピラトがユダヤの総督、ヘロデがガリラヤの国主、その兄弟ピリポがイツリヤとテラコニテ地方の国主、ルサニヤがアビレネの国主であり、
2 Annas and Caiaphas being chief priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.
アンナスとカヤパが大祭司であったころ、神のことばが、荒野でザカリヤの子ヨハネに下った。
3 And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the immersion of repentance in order to the remission of sins;
そこでヨハネは、ヨルダン川のほとりのすべての地方に行って、罪が赦されるための悔い改めに基づくバプテスマを説いた。
4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying: The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight;
そのことは預言者イザヤのことばの書に書いてあるとおりである。 「荒野で叫ぶ者の声がする。 『主の道を用意し、 主の通られる道をまっすぐにせよ。
5 every ravine shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made level; and the crooked ways shall be made straight; and the rough ways shall be made smooth;
すべての谷はうずめられ、 すべての山と丘とは低くされ、 曲がった所はまっすぐになり、 でこぼこ道は平らになる。
6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
こうして、あらゆる人が、 神の救いを見るようになる。』」
7 Therefore he said to the multitudes that came out to be immersed by him: Generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
それで、ヨハネは、彼からバプテスマを受けようとして出て来た群衆に言った。「まむしのすえたち。だれが必ず来る御怒りをのがれるように教えたのか。
8 Bring forth, therefore, fruits worthy of repentance. And begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.
それならそれで、悔い改めにふさわしい実を結びなさい。『われわれの先祖はアブラハムだ。』などと心の中で言い始めてはいけません。よく言っておくが、神は、こんな石ころからでも、アブラハムの子孫を起こすことがおできになるのです。
9 And now also the ax is lying at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not produce good fruit, is cut down and cast into the fire.
斧もすでに木の根元に置かれています。だから、良い実を結ばない木は、みな切り倒されて、火に投げ込まれます。」
10 And the multitudes asked him, saying: What, then, shall we do?
群衆はヨハネに尋ねた。「それでは、私たちはどうすればよいのでしょう。」
11 He answered and said to them: He that has two coats, let him give to him that has none; and he that has food, let him do likewise.
彼は答えて言った。「下着を二枚持っている者は、一つも持たない者に分けなさい。食べ物を持っている者も、そうしなさい。」
12 And the publicans also came to be immersed, and they said to him: Teacher, what shall we do?
取税人たちも、バプテスマを受けに出て来て、言った。「先生。私たちはどうすればよいのでしょう。」
13 And he said to them: Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
ヨハネは彼らに言った。「決められたもの以上には、何も取り立ててはいけません。」
14 And soldiers also asked him, saying: And what shall we do? And he said to them: Take nothing from any one by extortion, nor by false accusation, and be content with your pay.
兵士たちも、彼に尋ねて言った。「私たちはどうすればよいのでしょうか。」ヨハネは言った。「だれからも、力ずくで金をゆすったり、無実の者を責めたりしてはいけません。自分の給料で満足しなさい。」
15 While the people were in suspense, and all were reasoning in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not,
民衆は救い主を待ち望んでおり、みな心の中で、ヨハネについて、もしかするとこの方がキリストではあるまいか、と考えていたので、
16 John answered them all, saying: I indeed immerse you in water; but there comes One mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to loose; he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.
ヨハネはみなに答えて言った。「私は水であなたがたにバプテスマを授けています。しかし、私よりもさらに力のある方がおいでになります。私などは、その方のくつのひもを解く値うちもありません。その方は、あなたがたに聖霊と火とのバプテスマをお授けになります。
17 His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his thrashing-floor, and gather the grain into his granary, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.
また手に箕を持って脱穀場をことごとくきよめ、麦を倉に納め、殻を消えない火で焼き尽くされます。」
18 With many other exhortations he proclaimed the good news to the people.
ヨハネは、そのほかにも多くのことを教えて、民衆に福音を知らせた。
19 But Herod the tetrarch having been reproved by him on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, and for all the wicked deeds which Herod did,
さて国主ヘロデは、その兄弟の妻ヘロデヤのことについて、また、自分の行なった悪事のすべてを、ヨハネに責められたので、
20 added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
ヨハネを牢に閉じ込め、すべての悪事にもう一つこの悪事を加えた。
21 And it came to pass, while all the people were being immersed, that Jesus also was immersed; and as he was praying, the heaven was opened,
さて、民衆がみなバプテスマを受けていたころ、イエスもバプテスマをお受けになり、そして祈っておられると、天が開け、
22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon him, in a bodily form, like a dove; and there came a voice from heaven, which said: Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I delight.
聖霊が、鳩のような形をして、自分の上に下られるのをご覧になった。また、天から声がした。「あなたは、わたしの愛する子、わたしはあなたを喜ぶ。」
23 And Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his ministry, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, son of Heli,
教えを始められたとき、イエスはおよそ三十歳で、人々からヨセフの子と思われていた。このヨセフは、ヘリの子、順次さかのぼって、
24 son of Matthat, son of Levi, son of Malchi, son of Janna, son of Joseph,
マタテの子、レビの子、メルキの子、ヤンナイの子、ヨセフの子、
25 son of Mattathiah, son of Amos, son of Nahum, son of Esli, son of Naggæ,
マタテヤの子、アモスの子、ナホムの子、エスリの子、ナンガイの子、
26 son of Maath, son of Mattathiah, son of Shimoi, son of Joseph, son of Judah,
マハテの子、マタテヤの子、シメイの子、ヨセクの子、ヨダの子、
27 son of Joannah, son of Rhesa, son of Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, son of Neri,
ヨハナンの子、レサの子、ゾロバベルの子、サラテルの子、ネリの子、
28 son of Malchi, son of Addi, son of Kosam, son of Elmodam, son of Er,
メルキの子、アデイの子、コサムの子、エルマダムの子、エルの子、
29 son of Jose, son of Eliezer, son of Jorim, son of Matthat, son of Levi,
ヨシュアの子、エリエゼルの子、ヨリムの子、マタテの子、レビの子、
30 son of Simeon, son of Judah, son of Joseph, son of Jonan, son of Eliakim,
シメオンの子、ユダの子、ヨセフの子、ヨナムの子、エリヤキムの子、
31 son of Meleah, son of Mainan, son of Mattatha, son of Nathan, son of David,
メレヤの子、メナの子、マタタの子、ナタンの子、ダビデの子、
32 Son of Jesse, son of Obed, son of Boaz, son of Salmon, son of Nahshon,
エッサイの子、オベデの子、ボアズの子、サラの子、ナアソンの子、
33 son of Aminidab, son of Aram, son of Esrom, son of Phares, son of Judah,
アミナダブの子、アデミンの子、アルニの子、エスロンの子、パレスの子、ユダの子、
34 son of Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham, son of Terah, son of Nahor,
ヤコブの子、イサクの子、アブラハムの子、テラの子、ナホルの子、
35 son of Serug, son of Reu, son of Peleg, son of Eber, son of Salah,
セルグの子、レウの子、ペレグの子、エベルの子、サラの子、
36 son of Kenan, son of Arphaxad, son of Shem, son of Noah, son of Lamech,
カイナンの子、アルパクサデの子、セムの子、ノアの子、ラメクの子、
37 son of Methusalah, son of Enoch, son of Jared, son of Mahalaleel, son of Kenan,
メトセラの子、エノクの子、ヤレデの子、マハラレルの子、カイナンの子、
38 son of Enos, son of Seth, son of Adam, son of God.
エノスの子、セツの子、アダムの子、このアダムは神の子である。
