Revelation 17
1 And there came one of the seven angels that had the seven bowls, and spake with me, saying, Come hither, I will show thee the judgment of the great harlot that sitteth upon many waters;
L'un des sept anges qui tenaient les sept coupes vint me parler, et dit: « Viens ici. Je te montrerai le jugement de la grande prostituée qui est assise sur les grandes eaux,
2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and they that dwell in the earth were made drunken with the wine of her fornication.
et avec laquelle les rois de la terre se sont livrés à l'impudicité. Les habitants de la terre se sont enivrés du vin de son impudicité. »
3 And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness: and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet-colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
Il me transporta par l'Esprit dans un désert. Je vis une femme assise sur une bête écarlate, pleine de noms blasphématoires, ayant sept têtes et dix cornes.
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stone and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations, even the unclean things of her fornication,
Cette femme était vêtue de pourpre et d'écarlate, et parée d'or, de pierres précieuses et de perles. Elle tenait dans sa main une coupe d'or remplie d'abominations et des impuretés de l'impudicité de la terre.
5 and upon her forehead a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Et sur son front était écrit un nom: « MYSTÈRE, BABYLONE LA GRANDE, LA MÈRE DES PROSTITUTES ET DES ABOMINATIONS DE LA TERRE ».
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I wondered with a great wonder.
Je vis cette femme ivre du sang des saints et du sang des martyrs de Jésus. Quand je la vis, je fus saisi d'un grand étonnement.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou wonder? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and the ten horns.
L'ange me dit: « Pourquoi t'étonnes-tu? Je vais te dire le mystère de la femme et de la bête qui la porte, celle qui a les sept têtes et les dix cornes.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss, and to go into perdition. And they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, [they] whose name hath not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast, how that he was, and is not, and shall come. (Abyssos g12)
La bête que tu as vue était, et elle n'est plus; elle va sortir de l'abîme et aller à la perdition. Les habitants de la terre, dont le nom n'a pas été inscrit dans le livre de vie depuis la fondation du monde, seront dans l'étonnement lorsqu'ils verront que la bête était, et n'est pas, et qu'elle sera présente. (Abyssos g12)
9 Here is the mind that hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth:
Voici l'esprit qui a la sagesse. Les sept têtes sont sept montagnes sur lesquelles la femme est assise.
10 and they are seven kings; the five are fallen, the one is, the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a little while.
Ce sont sept rois. Cinq sont tombés, l'un est, et l'autre n'est pas encore venu. Quand il sera venu, il faudra qu'il persiste un peu.
11 And the beast that was, and is not, is himself also an eighth, and is of the seven; and he goeth into perdition.
La bête qui était, et qui n'est plus, est elle-même aussi un huitième, et elle est du nombre des sept; et elle va à la destruction.
12 And the ten horns that thou sawest are ten kings, who have received no kingdom as yet; but they receive authority as kings, with the beast, for one hour.
Les dix cornes que tu as vues sont dix rois qui n'ont pas encore reçu de royaume, mais qui reçoivent l'autorité comme rois avec la bête pendant une heure.
13 These have one mind, and they give their power and authority unto the beast.
Ils ont une seule pensée, et ils donnent leur pouvoir et leur autorité à la bête.
14 These shall war against the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them, for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings; and they [also shall overcome] that are with him, called and chosen and faithful.
Ils feront la guerre à l'agneau, et l'agneau les vaincra, car il est le Seigneur des seigneurs et le Roi des rois, et ceux qui sont avec lui sont appelés, élus et fidèles. »
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
Il me dit: « Les eaux que tu as vues, où la prostituée est assise, ce sont des peuples, des foules, des nations et des langues.
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest, and the beast, these shall hate the harlot, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her utterly with fire.
Les dix cornes que tu as vues, elles et la bête, haïront la prostituée, la dévoreront, la dépouilleront, mangeront sa chair, et la consumeront par le feu.
17 For God did put in their hearts to do his mind, and to come to one mind, and to give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God should be accomplished.
Car Dieu a mis dans leurs cœurs de faire ce qu'il a en tête, d'être d'accord, et de donner leur royaume à la bête, jusqu'à ce que les paroles de Dieu soient accomplies.
18 And the woman whom thou sawest is the great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
La femme que tu as vue est la grande ville qui règne sur les rois de la terre. »
