Proverbs 27
1 Boast not thyself of to-morrow; For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Ne te glorifie pas du lendemain, car tu ne sais pas ce qu'enfantera le jour suivant.
2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; A stranger, and not thine own lips.
Qu'un autre te loue, et non ta bouche; un étranger, et non tes lèvres.
3 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; But a fool’s vexation is heavier than they both.
La pierre est lourde et le sable est pesant: plus que l'un et l'autre pèse la colère de l'insensé.
4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; But who is able to stand before jealousy?
La fureur est cruelle et la colère impétueuse; mais qui pourra tenir devant la jalousie?
5 Better is open rebuke Than love that is hidden.
Mieux vaut une réprimande ouverte qu'une amitié cachée.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; But the kisses of an enemy are profuse.
Les blessures d'un ami sont inspirées par la fidélité, mais les baisers d'un ennemi sont trompeurs.
7 The full soul loatheth a honeycomb; But to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
Celui qui est rassasié foule aux pieds le rayon de miel, mais à celui qui a faim tout ce qui est amer paraît doux.
8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, So is a man that wandereth from his place.
Comme l'oiseau qui erre loin de son nid, ainsi l'homme qui erre loin de son lieu.
9 Oil and perfume rejoice the heart; So doth the sweetness of a man’s friend [that cometh] of hearty counsel.
L'huile et les parfums réjouissent le cœur; telle la douceur d'un ami dont le conseil vient du cœur.
10 Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; And go not to thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: Better is a neighbor that is near than a brother far off.
N'abandonne pas ton ami et l'ami de ton père, et n'entre pas dans la maison de ton frère au jour de ta détresse; mieux vaut un voisin proche qu'un frère éloigné.
11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, That I may answer him that reproacheth me.
Mon fils, deviens sage et réjouis mon cœur, afin que je puisse répondre à celui qui m'outrage.
12 A prudent man seeth the evil, [and] hideth himself; [But] the simple pass on, [and] suffer for it.
L'homme prudent voit le mal et se cache; les simples passent et en portent la peine.
13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger; And hold him in pledge [that is surety] for a foreign woman.
Prends son vêtement, car il a répondu pour autrui; demande des gages à cause des étrangers.
14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, It shall be counted a curse to him.
Bénir son prochain à haute voix et de grand matin est réputé comme une malédiction.
15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day And a contentious woman are alike:
Une gouttière continue dans un jour de pluie et une femme querelleuse se ressemblent.
16 He that would restrain her restraineth the wind; And his right hand encountereth oil.
Celui qui la retient, retient le vent, et sa main saisit de l'huile.
17 Iron sharpeneth iron; So a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Le fer aiguise le fer; ainsi un homme aiguise un autre homme.
18 Whoso keepeth the fig-tree shall eat the fruit thereof; And he that regardeth his master shall be honored.
Celui qui garde son figuier en mangera les fruits, et celui qui garde son maître sera honoré.
19 As in water face [answereth] to face, So the heart of man to man.
Comme dans l'eau le visage répond au visage, ainsi le cœur de l'homme répond à l'homme.
Le schéol et l'abîme ne sont jamais rassasiés, de même les yeux de l'homme ne sont jamais rassasiés. (Sheol h7585)
21 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; And a man is [tried] by his praise.
Le creuset est pour l'argent, et le fourneau pour l'or; que l'homme éprouve de même la louange qu'il reçoit!
22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with bruised grain, Yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
Quand tu pilerais l'insensé dans un mortier, comme on broie le grain, avec le pilon, sa folie ne se séparerait pas de lui.
23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, [And] look well to thy herds:
Connais bien l'état de tes brebis, applique ton attention à ton troupeau;
24 For riches are not for ever; And doth the crown endure unto all generations?
car la richesse ne dure pas toujours, ni une couronne d'âge en âge.
25 The hay is carried, and the tender grass showeth itself, And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in.
Mais quand l'herbe a paru, que la verdure s'est montrée, que le foin des montagnes est recueilli,
26 The lambs are for thy clothing, And the goats are the price of the field;
tu as des agneaux pour te vêtir, des boucs pour payer un champ;
27 And [there will be] goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, And maintenance for thy maidens.
tu as en abondance le lait des chèvres, pour ta nourriture et celle de ta maison, et pour l'entretien de tes servantes.
