Matthew 3
1 And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judæa, saying,
In jenen Tagen aber trat Johannes, der Täufer, auf, und predigte in der Wüste Judäas,
2 Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Und sprach: Ändert eure Gesinnung, denn die Himmelsherrschaft ist nahe herbeigekommen.
3 For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.
Denn dieser ist´s, von dem der Prophet Jesaias redete, wenn er spricht: "Eine Stimme ruft in der Wüste: Bereitet den Weg des Herrn! machet eben seine Pfade!"
4 Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
Er aber, Johannes, hatte sein Kleid von Kamelsharren und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden; seine Speise aber war Heuschrecken und wilder Honig.
5 Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judæa, and all the region round about the Jordan;
Da ging zu ihm hinaus Jerusalem und ganz Judäa und die ganze Umgegend des Jordans,
6 and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
Und ließ sich von ihm taufen im Jordan, indem sie ihre Sünden bekannten.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Als er aber viele von den Pharisäern und Sadduzäern zu seiner Taufe kommen sah, sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr Otterngezüchte! wer hat euch unterwiesen, dem kommenden Zorne zu entfliehen?
8 Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:
Bringt nun Früchte würdig der Gesinnungsänderung,
9 and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Und wähnet nicht zu sprechen bei euch selber: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater, denn ich sage euch, daß Gott aus diesen Steinen dem Abraham Kinder erwecken kann.
10 And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Schon ist die Axt an die Wurzel der Bäume gelegt; jeder Baum nun, welcher nicht gute Frucht bringt, wird abgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen.
11 I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire:
Ich zwar taufe euch in Wasser zur Gesinnungsänderung, der aber nach mir kommt ist ein Stärkerer, als ich, dem die Schuhe zu tragen ich auch nicht gut genug bin; derselbst wird euch in heiligem Geiste und Feuer taufen.
12 whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
Dessen Wurfschaufel ist in seiner Hand und er wird seine Tenne reinigen, und seinen Weizen in die Scheune sammeln, die Spreu aber mit unauslöschlichem Feuer verbrennen.
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Zu der Zeit kam Jesus von Galiläa an den Jordan, zu Johannes, um von ihm getauft zu werden.
14 But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
Johannes aber wehrte ihm, und sprach: Ich habe nötig von dir getauft zu werden, und du kommst zu mir?
15 But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffereth him.
Jesus antwortete aber und sprach zu ihm: Laß eben! denn so geziemt es uns, alle Gerechtigkeit zu erfüllen; da ließ er ihn zu.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;
Und als Jesus getauft war, stieg er sofort wieder empor aus dem Wasser, und siehe, die Himmel öffneten sich ihm, und er sah den Geist Gottes herabfahren, gleich einer Taube, und über ihn kommen.
17 and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Und siehe, eine Stimme aus dem Himmeln, die sprach: Dieser ist mein geliebter Sohn, an welchem ich Wohlgefallen habe.
