Matthew 3
1 And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judæa, saying,
In jenen Tagen aber kommt Johannes der Täufer und predigt in der Wüste von Judäa und spricht:
2 Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Tut Buße, denn das Reich der Himmel ist nahe gekommen.
3 For this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.
Denn dieser ist der, von welchem durch den Propheten Jesaias geredet ist, welcher spricht: “Stimme eines Rufenden in der Wüste: Bereitet den Weg des Herrn, machet gerade seine Steige.”
4 Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
Er aber, Johannes, hatte seine Kleidung von Kamelhaaren und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden; seine Speise aber war Heuschrecken und wilder Honig.
5 Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judæa, and all the region round about the Jordan;
Da ging zu ihm hinaus Jerusalem und ganz Judäa und die ganze Umgegend des Jordan;
6 and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
und sie wurden von ihm im Jordan getauft, indem sie ihre Sünden bekannten.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Als er aber viele der Pharisäer und Sadducäer zu seiner Taufe kommen sah, sprach er zu ihnen: Otternbrut! Wer hat euch gewiesen, dem kommenden Zorn zu entfliehen?
8 Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:
Bringet nun der Buße würdige Frucht;
9 and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
und denket nicht bei euch selbst zu sagen: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater; denn ich sage euch, daß Gott dem Abraham aus diesen Steinen Kinder zu erwecken vermag.
10 And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Schon ist aber die Axt an die Wurzel der Bäume gelegt; jeder Baum nun, der nicht gute Frucht bringt, wird abgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen.
11 I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and [in] fire:
Ich zwar taufe euch mit Wasser zur Buße; der nach mir Kommende aber ist stärker als ich, dessen Sandalen zu tragen ich nicht würdig bin; er wird euch mit Heiligem Geiste und Feuer taufen;
12 whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
dessen Worfschaufel in seiner Hand ist, und er wird seine Tenne durch und durch reinigen und seinen Weizen in die Scheune sammeln, die Spreu aber wird er verbrennen mit unauslöschlichem Feuer.
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Dann kommt Jesus aus Galiläa an den Jordan zu Johannes, um von ihm getauft zu werden.
14 But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
Johannes aber wehrte ihm und sprach: Ich habe nötig von dir getauft zu werden, und du kommst zu mir?
15 But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffereth him.
Jesus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Laß es jetzt so sein; denn also gebührt es uns, alle Gerechtigkeit zu erfüllen. Dann läßt er es ihm zu.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;
Und als Jesus getauft war, stieg er alsbald von dem Wasser herauf; und siehe, die Himmel wurden ihm aufgetan, und er sah den Geist Gottes wie eine Taube herniederfahren und auf ihn kommen.
17 and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Und siehe, eine Stimme kommt aus den Himmeln, welche spricht: Dieser ist mein geliebter Sohn, an welchem ich Wohlgefallen gefunden habe.
