Job 41
1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with a fishhook? Or press down his tongue with a cord?
Poderás tirar com anzol o leviathan? ou ligarás a sua lingua com a corda?
2 Canst thou put a rope into his nose? Or pierce his jaw through with a hook?
Podes pôr um junco no seu nariz? ou com um espinho furarás a sua queixada?
3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? Or will he speak soft words unto thee?
Porventura multiplicará muitas supplicações para comtigo? ou brandamente fallará?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee, That thou shouldest take him for a servant for ever?
Fará elle concertos comtigo? ou o tomarás tu por escravo para sempre?
5 Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? Or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
Brincarás com elle, como com um passarinho? ou o atarás para tuas meninas?
6 Will the bands [of fishermen] make traffic of him? Will they part him among the merchants?
Os teus companheiros farão d'elle um banquete? ou o repartirão entre os negociantes?
7 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons, Or his head with fish-spears?
Encherás a sua pelle de ganchos? ou a sua cabeça com arpéos de pescadores?
8 Lay thy hand upon him; Remember the battle, and do so no more.
Põe a tua mão sobre elle, lembra-te da peleja, e nunca mais tal intentarás.
9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain: Will not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
Eis que a sua esperança falhará: porventura tambem á sua vista será derribado?
10 None is so fierce that he dare stir him up; Who then is he that can stand before me?
Ninguem ha tão atrevido, que a despertal-o se atreva: quem pois é aquelle que ousa pôr-se em pé diante de mim
11 Who hath first given unto me, that I should repay him? [Whatsoever is] under the whole heaven is mine.
Quem me preveniu, para que eu haja de retribuir-lhe? pois o que está debaixo de todos os céus é meu.
12 I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, Nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame.
Não calarei os meus membros, nem a relação das suas forças, nem a graça da sua formação.
13 Who can strip off his outer garment? Who shall come within his jaws?
Quem descobriria a superficie do seu vestido? quem entrará entre as suas queixadas dobradas?
14 Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.
Quem abriria as portas do seu rosto? pois em roda dos seus dentes está o terror.
15 [His] strong scales are [his] pride, Shut up together [as with] a close seal.
As suas fortes escamas são excellentissimas, cada uma fechada como com sello apertado.
16 One is so near to another, That no air can come between them.
Uma á outra se chega tão perto, que nem um assopro passa por entre ellas.
17 They are joined one to another; They stick together, so that they cannot be sundered.
Umas ás outras se apegam: tanto se travam entre si, que não se podem separar.
18 His sneezings flash forth light, And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
Cada um dos seus espirros faz resplandecer a luz, e os seus olhos são como as pestanas da alva.
19 Out of his mouth go burning torches, And sparks of fire leap forth.
Da sua bocca saem tochas: faiscas de fogo arrebentam d'ella.
20 Out of his nostrils a smoke goeth, As of a boiling pot and [burning] rushes.
Dos seus narizes procede fumo, como d'uma panella fervente, ou d'uma grande caldeira.
21 His breath kindleth coals, And a flame goeth forth from his mouth.
O seu halito faria incender os carvões: e da sua bocca sae chamma.
22 In his neck abideth strength, And terror danceth before him.
No seu pescoço pousa a força: perante elle até a tristeza salta de prazer.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: They are firm upon him; they cannot be moved.
Os musculos da sua carne estão pegados entre si: cada um está firme n'elle, e nenhum se move.
24 His heart is as firm as a stone; Yea, firm as the nether millstone.
O seu coração é firme como uma pedra e firme como parte da mó de baixo.
25 When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid: By reason of consternation they are beside themselves.
Levantando-se elle, tremem os valentes: em razão dos seus abalos se purificam.
26 If one lay at him with the sword, it cannot avail; Nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft.
Se alguem lhe tocar com a espada, essa não poderá penetrar, nem lança, dardo ou couraça.
27 He counteth iron as straw, [And] brass as rotten wood.
Elle reputa o ferro por palha, e o cobre por pau podre.
28 The arrow cannot make him flee: Sling-stones are turned with him into stubble.
A setta o não fará fugir: as pedras das fundas se lhe tornam em rastolho.
29 Clubs are counted as stubble: He laugheth at the rushing of the javelin.
As pedras atiradas estima como arestas, e ri-se do brandir da lança.
30 His underparts are [like] sharp potsherds: He spreadeth [as it were] a threshing-wain upon the mire.
Debaixo de si tem conchas ponteagudas: estende-se sobre coisas ponteagudas como na lama.
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: He maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
As profundezas faz ferver, como uma panella: torna o mar como quando os unguentos fervem.
32 He maketh a path to shine after him; One would think the deep to be hoary.
Apoz elle allumia o caminho: parece o abysmo tornado em brancura de cãs.
33 Upon earth there is not his like, That is made without fear.
Na terra não ha coisa que se lhe possa comparar, pois foi feito para estar sem pavor.
34 He beholdeth everything that is high: He is king over all the sons of pride.
Todo o alto vê: é rei sobre todos os filhos d'animaes altivos.
