Habakkuk 1
1 The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
Révélation que vit Habacuc, le prophète.
2 O Jehovah, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear? I cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save.
Yahvé, jusqu'à quand vais-je crier, et tu n'écouteras pas? Je crie vers toi « Violence! » et tu ne sauveras pas?
3 Why dost thou show me iniquity, and look upon perverseness? for destruction and violence are before me; and there is strife, and contention riseth up.
Pourquoi me montres-tu l'iniquité, et regardes-tu la perversité? Car la destruction et la violence sont devant moi. Il y a des querelles, et la dispute s'élève.
4 Therefore the law is slacked, and justice doth never go forth; for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore justice goeth forth perverted.
C'est pourquoi la loi est paralysée, et la justice ne prévaut jamais; car les méchants entourent les justes; c'est pourquoi la justice sort pervertie.
5 Behold ye among the nations, and look, and wonder marvellously; for I am working a work in your days, which ye will not believe though it be told you.
« Regardez parmi les nations, observez, et soyez étonnés; car je fais en vos jours une œuvre que vous ne croirez pas, même si on vous la raconte.
6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, that march through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling-places that are not theirs.
Car voici, je fais surgir les Chaldéens, cette nation âpre et hâtive qui marche sur toute la largeur de la terre, pour posséder des demeures qui ne sont pas à elle.
7 They are terrible and dreadful; their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves.
Ils sont craints et redoutés. Leur jugement et leur dignité viennent d'eux-mêmes.
8 Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves; and their horsemen press proudly on: yea, their horsemen come from far; they fly as an eagle that hasteth to devour.
Leurs chevaux sont plus rapides que les léopards, Et plus féroces que les loups du soir. Leurs cavaliers avancent fièrement. Oui, leurs cavaliers viennent de loin. Ils volent comme l'aigle qui se précipite pour dévorer.
9 They come all of them for violence; the set of their faces is forwards; and they gather captives as the sand.
Ils viennent tous pour la violence. Leurs hordes sont tournées vers l'avant. Ils rassemblent les prisonniers comme du sable.
10 Yea, he scoffeth at kings, and princes are a derision unto him; he derideth every stronghold; for he heapeth up dust, and taketh it.
Ils se moquent des rois, Et les princes sont pour eux une dérision. Ils se moquent de toute forteresse, car ils construisent une rampe de terre et la prennent.
11 Then shall he sweep by [as] a wind, and shall pass over, and be guilty, [even] he whose might is his god.
Puis ils passent comme le vent et s'en vont. Ils sont vraiment coupables, eux dont la force est leur dieu. »
12 Art not thou from everlasting, O Jehovah my God, my Holy One? we shall not die. O Jehovah, thou hast ordained him for judgment; and thou, O Rock, hast established him for correction.
N'es-tu pas de toute éternité, Yahvé mon Dieu, mon Saint? Nous ne mourrons pas. Yahvé, tu les as établis pour juger. Toi, Rocher, tu l'as établi pour punir.
13 Thou that art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and that canst not look on perverseness, wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy peace when the wicked swalloweth up the man that is more righteous than he;
Toi qui as des yeux plus purs que ceux qui voient le mal, et qui ne peux regarder la perversité, pourquoi tolères-tu les perfides et te tais-tu quand le méchant engloutit celui qui est plus juste que lui,
14 and makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?
et rend les hommes semblables aux poissons de la mer, aux reptiles qui n'ont pas de maître sur eux?
15 He taketh up all of them with the angle, he catcheth them in his net, and gathereth them in his drag: therefore he rejoiceth and is glad.
Il les prend tous avec l'hameçon. Il les attrape dans son filet et les recueille dans sa gibecière. C'est pourquoi il se réjouit et se réjouit.
16 Therefore he sacrificeth unto his net, and burneth incense unto his drag; because by them his portion is fat, and his food plenteous.
C'est pourquoi il sacrifie à son filet et brûle de l'encens à sa drague, parce que grâce à eux sa vie est luxueuse et sa nourriture est bonne.
17 Shall he therefore empty his net, and spare not to slay the nations continually?
Videra-t-il donc continuellement son filet, Et tuera-t-il les nations sans pitié?
