Esther 6
1 On that night could not the king sleep; and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles, and they were read before the king.
Cette nuit-là le sommeil fuyait le roi, et il dit qu'on lui apportât le livre mémorial, les annales; et il en fut fait, lecture devant le roi.
2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, of those that kept the threshold, who had sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus.
Là se trouvait consignée la révélation faite par Mardochée au sujet de Bigthan et Thérès, les deux eunuques du roi d'entre les gardes du seuil, qui avaient cherché à porter la main sur le roi Assuérus.
3 And the king said, What honor and dignity hath been bestowed on Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.
Et le roi dit: Quel prix et quel honneur Mardochée a-t-il obtenus pour cela? Et les écuyers du roi qui étaient de service auprès de lui, dirent: Il n'a rien reçu.
4 And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king’s house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
Et le roi dit: Qui est dans la cour? Or Aman arrivait dans la cour extérieure du palais royal, pour proposer au roi de faire pendre Mardochée au poteau qu'il avait préparé pour lui.
5 And the king’s servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
Et les écuyers du roi lui dirent: Voilà, c'est Aman qui est dans la cour. Et le roi dit: Qu'il entre.
6 So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honor? Now Haman said in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself?
Et Aman entra, et le roi lui dit: Que faut-il faire à un homme que le roi veut récompenser? Et Aman disait en son cœur: Qui est-ce que le roi voudrait récompenser sinon moi?
7 And Haman said unto the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honor,
Et Aman dit au roi: L'homme que le roi veut récompenser!…
8 let royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and on the head of which a crown royal is set:
il faut apporter un habillement royal dont le roi se revêt, et le cheval que le roi monte, et sur la tête duquel on place la couronne royale,
9 and let the apparel and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man therewith whom the king delighteth to honor, and cause him to ride on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honor.
puis remettre l'habillement et le cheval à quelqu'un des Grands du roi, des nobles, et revêtir l'homme que le roi veut récompenser, et le promener monté sur le cheval dans les rues de la ville en criant devant lui: Ainsi est traité l'homme que le roi veut récompenser!
10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king’s gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.
Et le roi dit à Aman: Vite, prends l'habillement et le cheval, comme tu as dit, et fais ainsi pour Mardochée, le Juif, qui est assis dans la porte du roi; n'omets aucun des points que tu as indiqués.
11 Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and caused him to ride through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honor.
Alors Aman prit l'habillement et le cheval, et revêtit Mardochée et le conduisit par les rues de la ville en criant devant lui: Ainsi est traité l'homme que le roi veut récompenser!
12 And Mordecai came again to the king’s gate. But Haman hasted to his house, mourning and having his head covered.
Et Mardochée revint à la porte du roi, mais Aman regagna en hâte sa maison, triste et la tête voilée.
13 And Haman recounted unto Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai, before whom thou hast begun to fall, be of the seed of the Jews, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.
Et Aman raconta à Zérès, sa femme, et à tous ses amis tout ce qui lui était arrivé. Alors ses sages et Zérès, sa femme, lui dirent: Si Mardochée, devant qui tu as commencé de tomber, est de la race des Juifs, tu ne l'emporteras pas sur lui, mais c'est toi qui tomberas devant lui.
14 While they were yet talking with him, came the king’s chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.
Ils s'entretenaient encore avec lui, lorsque arrivèrent les eunuques du roi, qui se hâtèrent de conduire Aman au banquet préparé par Esther.
