2 Chronicles 2

1 Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the name of Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom.

Salomon résolut de bâtir une maison au nom de Yahweh, et une maison royale pour lui.

2 And Solomon counted out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand men that were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.

Salomon compta soixante-dix mille hommes pour porter les fardeaux, quatre-vingt mille pour tailler les pierres dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents pour les surveiller.

3 And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him a house to dwell therein, [even so deal with me].

Salomon envoya dire à Hiram, roi de Tyr: " Comme tu as fait pour David, mon père, à qui tu as envoyé des cèdres afin qu'il se bâtit une maison pour y habiter, fais de même pour moi.

4 Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of Jehovah my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him incense of sweet spices, and for the continual showbread, and for the burnt-offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the set feasts of Jehovah our God. This is [an ordinance] for ever to Israel.

Voici que j'élève une maison au nom de Yahweh, mon Dieu, pour la lui consacrer, pour brûler devant lui le parfum odoriférant, pour présenter continuellement les pains de proposition et pour offrir les holocaustes du matin et du soir, des sabbats, des nouvelles lunes et des fêtes de Yahweh, notre Dieu, selon qu'il est prescrit à Israël pour jamais.

5 And the house which I build is great; for great is our God above all gods.

La maison que je vais bâtir doit être grande, car notre Dieu est plus grand que tous les dieux.

6 But who is able to build him a house, seeing heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him a house, save only to burn incense before him?

Mais qui est capable de lui bâtir une maison, puisque le ciel et le ciel des cieux ne peuvent le contenir? Et qui suis-je pour lui bâtir une maison, si ce n'est pour faire brûler des parfums devant lui?

7 Now therefore send me a man skilful to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that knoweth how to grave [all manner of] gravings, [to be] with the skilful men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.

Et maintenant, envoie-moi un homme habile à travailler l'or et l'argent, l'airain et le fer, la pourpre rouge, le cramoisi et la pourpre violette, et connaissant l'art de la gravure, pour qu'il travaille avec les hommes habiles qui sont auprès de moi en Juda et à Jérusalem, et que David, mon père, a préparés.

8 Send me also cedar-trees, fir-trees, and algum-trees, out of Lebanon; for I know that thy servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon. And, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,

Envoie-moi aussi du Liban des bois de cèdre, de cyprès et de santal; car je sais que tes serviteurs savent couper les bois du Liban. Mes serviteurs seront avec tes serviteurs,

9 even to prepare me timber in abundance; for the house which I am about to build shall be great and wonderful.

pour me préparer du bois en abondance, car la maison que je vais bâtir sera grande et magnifique.

10 And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.

Et voici qu'aux bûcherons qui couperont les bois, à tes serviteurs, je donnerai, pour leur nourriture, vingt mille cors de froment, vingt mille cors d'orge, vingt mille baths de vin et vingt mille baths d'huile. "

11 Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because Jehovah loveth his people, he hath made thee king over them.

Hiram, roi de Tyr, répondit dans une lettre qu'il envoya à Salomon: " C'est parce que Yahweh aime son peuple qu'il t'a établi roi sur eux. "

12 Huram said moreover, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with discretion and understanding, that should build a house for Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom.

Et Hiram dit: " Béni soit Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, qui a fait le ciel et la terre, de ce qu'il a donné au roi David un fils sage, prudent et intelligent, qui va bâtir une maison à Yahweh et une maison royale pour lui!

13 And now I have sent a skilful man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father’s,

Et maintenant, je t'envoie un homme habile et intelligent, maître Hiram,

14 the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan; and his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson, also to grave any manner of graving, and to devise any device; that there may be [a place] appointed unto him with thy skilful men, and with the skilful men of my lord David thy father.

fils d'une femme d'entre les filles de Dan et d'un père Tyrien, habile à travailler l'or et l'argent, l'airain et le fer, les pierres et les bois, la pourpre rouge, la pourpre violette, le cramoisi, le lin fin, à faire toute espèce de gravures, et à élaborer tout plan qui lui sera proposé, de concert avec tes hommes habiles et avec les hommes habiles de mon seigneur David, ton père.

15 Now therefore the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine, which my lord hath spoken of, let him send unto his servants:

Et maintenant, que mon seigneur envoie à ses serviteurs le froment, l'orge, l'huile et le vin dont il a parlé.

16 and we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need; and we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa; and thou shalt carry it up to Jerusalem.

Et nous, nous couperons des bois du Liban, autant que tu en auras besoin; et nous te les expédierons par mer en radeaux jusqu'à Joppé, et toi, tu les feras monter à Jérusalem.

17 And Solomon numbered all the sojourners that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them; and they were found a hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.

Salomon compta tous les étrangers qui étaient dans le pays d'Israël, d'après le dénombrement qu'avait fait David, son père. On en trouva cent cinquante trois mille six cents.

18 And he set threescore and ten thousand of them to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand that were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people at work.

Et il en prit soixante-dix mille pour les fardeaux, quatre-vingt mille pour tailler les pierres dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents comme surveillants pour faire travailler le peuple.
