Romans 15
1 Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
Nous devons donc, nous qui sommes forts, supporter les infirmités des faibles, et ne pas nous complaire en nous-mêmes.
2 Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, to be building him up.
Que chacun de nous complaise à son prochain, pour le bien, en vue de l'édification.
3 For even Christ did not please himself. But, as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me.”
Le Christ, en effet, n'a pas eu de complaisance pour lui-même; mais il est écrit: «Les outrages de ceux qui t'outragent sont tombés sur moi.»
4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that through perseverance and through encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Or, toutes les choses qui ont été écrites auparavant, l'ont été pour notre instruction, afin que, par la patience et par la consolation que donnent les Écritures, nous possédions l'espérance.
5 Now the God of perseverance and of encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus,
Que le Dieu de la patience et de la consolation vous donne de vivre, les uns avec les autres, en bonne intelligence, selon Jésus-Christ,
6 that with one accord you may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
afin que, d'un même coeur et d'une même bouche, vous rendiez gloire à Dieu, le Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
7 Therefore accept one another, even as Christ also accepted you, to the glory of God.
Ainsi donc, accueillez-vous les uns les autres, comme Christ aussi vous a accueillis, pour la gloire de Dieu.
8 Now I say that Christ has been made a servant of the circumcision for the truth of God, that he might confirm the promises given to the fathers,
Je dis, en effet, que Jésus-Christ a exercé son ministère auprès des circoncis, pour manifester la fidélité de Dieu et pour confirmer les promesses faites à nos pères,
9 and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, “Therefore I will give praise to you among the Gentiles and sing to your name.”
tandis que les Païens ont à glorifier Dieu pour sa miséricorde, ainsi qu'il est écrit: «C'est pourquoi, je te louerai parmi les nations, et je chanterai à la gloire de ton nom.»
10 Again he says, “Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people.”
Il est dit encore: «Nations, réjouissez-vous avec son peuple!»
11 Again, “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles! Let all the peoples praise him.”
Et encore: «Louez le Seigneur, vous toutes les nations, et que tous les peuples le célèbrent!»
12 Again, Isaiah says, “There will be the root of Jesse, he who arises to rule over the Gentiles; in him the Gentiles will hope.”
Ésaïe dit aussi: «De la racine de Jessé s'élèvera le rejeton qui gouvernera les nations, et les nations espéreront en lui.»
13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Que le Dieu de l'espérance vous remplisse donc de toute joie et de toute paix dans la foi, afin que vous abondiez en espérance, par la puissance du Saint-Esprit!
14 I myself am also persuaded about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish others.
En ce qui vous concerne, mes frères, je suis persuadé, moi aussi, que vous êtes pleins de bonté, remplis d'une parfaite connaissance, capables de vous avertir les uns les autres.
15 But I write the more boldly to you in part as reminding you, because of the grace that was given to me by God,
Si je vous ai écrit, ici et là, avec une certaine hardiesse, c'est pour raviver vos souvenirs, en vertu de la grâce que Dieu m'a faite,
16 that I should be a servant of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, serving as a priest of the Good News of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be made acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
d'être ministre de Jésus-Christ parmi les Païens, exerçant le sacerdoce de l'Évangile de Dieu, afin que les Païens lui soient une offrande agréable, sanctifiée par l'Esprit saint.
17 I have therefore my boasting in Christ Jesus in things pertaining to God.
J'ai donc sujet de me glorifier en Jésus-Christ, pour ce qui regarde le service de Dieu.
18 For I will not dare to speak of any things except those which Christ worked through me for the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed,
Car je ne me permettrais pas de parler de choses que Christ n'aurait pas faites par moi pour amener les Païens à son obéissance, par la parole et par les oeuvres,
19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of God’s Spirit; so that from Jerusalem and around as far as to Illyricum, I have fully preached the Good News of Christ;
par la puissance des miracles et des prodiges, par la puissance de l'Esprit de Dieu. C'est au point que, depuis Jérusalem et les contrées voisines jusqu'en Illyrie, j'ai porté partout l'Évangile du Christ.
20 yes, making it my aim to preach the Good News, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build on another’s foundation.
Mais je me suis fait un honneur d'annoncer l'Évangile là où le nom de Christ n'avait pas encore été prononcé, afin de ne point bâtir sur le fondement posé par un autre,
21 But, as it is written, “They will see, to whom no news of him came. They who have not heard will understand.”
ainsi qu'il est écrit: «Ceux à qui il n'avait pas été annoncé le verront, et ceux qui n'avaient pas entendu parler de lui le connaîtront.»
22 Therefore also I was hindered these many times from coming to you,
C'est aussi ce qui m'a souvent empéché d'aller vous voir.
23 but now, no longer having any place in these regions, and having these many years a longing to come to you,
Mais, à présent, je n'ai plus rien qui me retienne dans ces contrées; et comme, depuis plusieurs années, j'ai un grand désir d'aller chez vous, si je puis me rendre en Espagne,
24 whenever I travel to Spain, I will come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey, and to be helped on my way there by you, if first I may enjoy your company for a while.
j'espère que je vous verrai en passant, et qu'ensuite vous m'y ferez conduire, après que j'aurai satisfait, au moins en partie, mon désir d'être avec vous.
25 But now, I say, I am going to Jerusalem, serving the saints.
Maintenant, je vais à Jérusalem pour le service des saints.
26 For it has been the good pleasure of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are at Jerusalem.
En effet, la Macédoine et l'Achaïe ont bien voulu faire une collecte en faveur des saints de Jérusalem, qui sont dans la pauvreté.
27 Yes, it has been their good pleasure, and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, they owe it to them also to serve them in material things.
Elles l'ont bien voulu, et puis, elles le leur devaient; car si les Païens ont eu part aux biens spirituels des Juifs, ils doivent à leur tour les assister de leurs biens temporels.
28 When therefore I have accomplished this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will go on by way of you to Spain.
Lors donc que j'aurai achevé cette oeuvre et que j'aurai remis fidèlement ce fruit de leur libéralité, je passerai chez vous pour aller en Espagne.
29 I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of the Good News of Christ.
Et je sais qu'en me rendant auprès de vous, je viendrai avec toute la richesse des bénédictions de Christ.
30 Now I beg you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in your prayers to God for me,
Je vous exhorte donc, mes frères, par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ et par l'amour que produit l'Esprit, à combattre avec moi dans les prières que vous adresserez à Dieu en ma faveur,
31 that I may be delivered from those who are disobedient in Judea, and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints,
afin que je sois délivré des incrédules qui sont en Judée, et que le secours que je porte à Jérusalem soit bien accueilli par les saints.
32 that I may come to you in joy through the will of God, and together with you, find rest.
Alors, je pourrai arriver chez vous avec joie, et, s'il plaît à Dieu, goûter avec vous quelque repos.
33 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.
Que le Dieu de paix soit avec vous tous! Amen.
