Psalms 8

1 For the Chief Musician; on an instrument of Gath. A Psalm by David. LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens!

Au maître chantre. En githith. Cantique de David. Éternel, notre Seigneur, Que ton nom est magnifique sur toute la terre! Elle élève ta gloire jusques aux Cieux.

2 From the lips of babes and infants you have established strength, because of your adversaries, that you might silence the enemy and the avenger.

Par la bouche des enfants et de ceux qu'on allaite, tu fondes ta louange, à cause de tes adversaires, pour faire taire ton ennemi et les agresseurs.

3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained,

Quand je contemple ton ciel, ouvrage de tes doigts, la lune et les étoiles que tu y as fixées:

4 what is man, that you think of him? What is the son of man, that you care for him?

Qu'est-ce que l'homme, [pensé-je, ] pour que tu songes à lui? et l'enfant d'Adam, pour que tu regardes à lui?

5 For you have made him a little lower than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor.

Et peu s'en faut que de lui tu n'aies fait un Dieu, et de gloire et de grandeur tu l'as couronné;

6 You make him ruler over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet:

tu l'as fait roi des œuvres de tes mains, tu as mis toutes choses à ses pieds,

7 All sheep and cattle, yes, and the animals of the field,

à la fois la brebis et le bœuf, et les bêtes des champs,

8 the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.

les oiseaux du ciel et les poissons de la mer, tout ce qui parcourt les sentiers des mers.

9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Éternel, notre Seigneur, que ton nom est magnifique sur toute la terre!
