Psalms 140

1 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. Deliver me, LORD, from evil men. Preserve me from violent men:

Livra-me, ó Senhor, do homem mau: guarda-me do homem violento;

2 those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war.

Que pensa o mal no coração: continuamente se ajuntam para a guerra.

3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper’s poison is under their lips. (Selah)

Aguçaram as linguas como a serpente; o veneno das viboras está debaixo dos seus labios (Selah)

4 LORD, keep me from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from the violent men who have determined to trip my feet.

Guarda-me, ó Senhor, das mãos do impio; guarda-me do homem violento, os quaes se propozeram empuxar os meus passos.

5 The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. (Selah)

Os soberbos armaram-me laços e cordas; estenderam a rede ao lado do caminho: armaram-me laços corrediços (Selah)

6 I said to the LORD, “You are my God.” Listen to the cry of my petitions, LORD.

Eu disse ao Senhor: Tu és o meu Deus: ouve a voz das minhas supplicas, ó Senhor.

7 LORD, the Lord, the strength of my salvation, you have covered my head in the day of battle.

Senhor Deus, fortaleza da minha salvação, tu cobriste a minha cabeça no dia da batalha.

8 LORD, do not grant the desires of the wicked. Do not let their evil plans succeed, or they will become proud. (Selah)

Não concedas, ó Senhor, ao impio os seus desejos: não promovas o seu mau proposito, para que não se exalte (Selah)

9 As for the head of those who surround me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

Quanto á cabeça dos que me cercam, cubra-os a maldade dos seus labios.

10 Let burning coals fall on them. Let them be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, from where they never rise.

Caiam sobre elles brazas vivas: sejam lançados no fogo: em covas profundas para que se não tornem a levantar.

11 An evil speaker will not be established in the earth. Evil will hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

Não terá firmeza na terra o homem de má lingua: o mal perseguirá o homem violento até que seja desterrado.

12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the needy.

Sei que o Senhor sustentará a causa do opprimido, e o direito do necessitado.

13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name. The upright will dwell in your presence.

Assim os justos louvarão o teu nome: os rectos habitarão na tua presença.
