< Psalms 13 >

1 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
For the music director. A psalm of David. How long, Lord, are you going to forget me? Forever? How long will you turn away from me?
2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day? How long shall my enemy triumph over me?
How long must I be in inner turmoil, feeling sad all day long? How long will my enemy be victorious over me?
3 Behold, and answer me, LORD, my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;
Think about this, and answer me, Lord my God. Give me back my strength, otherwise I'm going to die,
4 lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed against him;” lest my adversaries rejoice when I fall.
and my enemy will say, “I defeated him!” and my opponents will celebrate my downfall.
5 But I trust in your loving kindness. My heart rejoices in your salvation.
But I trust in your never-failing love, I will be happy because you save me.
6 I will sing to the LORD, because he has been good to me.
I will sing to the Lord because he has treated me with such generosity!
