Psalms 105
1 Give thanks to the LORD! Call on his name! Make his doings known among the peoples.
Þakkið Drottni fyrir öll hans undursamlegu verk og segið frá þeim meðal þjóðanna.
2 Sing to him, sing praises to him! Tell of all his marvelous works.
Syngið fyrir hann, leikið fyrir hann og segið öllum frá máttarverkum hans.
3 Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Lofið og vegsamið hans heilaga nafn. Þið sem tilbiðjið Drottin, fagnið!
4 Seek the LORD and his strength. Seek his face forever more.
Leitið hans og máttar hans, og keppið eftir að kynnast honum!
5 Remember his marvelous works that he has done: his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,
Minnist dásemdarverkanna sem hann vann fyrir okkur, sína útvöldu þjóð,
6 you offspring of Abraham, his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
afkomendur Abrahams og Jakobs, þjóna hans. Munið þið hvernig hann útrýmdi óvinum okkar?
7 He is the LORD, our God. His judgments are in all the earth.
Hann er Drottinn, Guð okkar. Elska hans blasir við hvar sem er í landinu.
8 He has remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,
Þótt þúsund kynslóðir líði, þá gleymir hann ekki loforði sínu,
9 the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac,
sáttmála sínum við Abraham og Ísak.
10 and confirmed it to Jacob for a statute; to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
Þennan sáttmála endurnýjaði hann við Jakob. Þetta er hans eilífi sáttmáli við Ísrael:
11 saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance,”
„Ég mun gefa ykkur Kanaansland að erfð.“
12 when they were but a few men in number, yes, very few, and foreigners in it.
Þetta sagði hann meðan þeir voru enn fámennir, já mjög fáir, og bjuggu sem útlendingar í landinu.
13 They went about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people.
Síðar dreifðust þeir meðal þjóðanna og hröktust úr einu landinu í annað.
14 He allowed no one to do them wrong. Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes,
Samt leyfði hann engum að kúga þá og refsaði konungum sem það reyndu.
15 “Do not touch my anointed ones! Do my prophets no harm!”
„Snertið ekki við mínum útvöldu og gerið spámönnum mínum ekkert mein.“sagði hann.
16 He called for a famine on the land. He destroyed the food supplies.
Og hann lét hungursneyð koma yfir Kanaansland og allur matur gekk til þurrðar.
17 He sent a man before them. Joseph was sold for a slave.
Þá sendi hann Jósef í ánauð til Egyptalands, þjóð sinni til bjargar.
18 They bruised his feet with shackles. His neck was locked in irons,
Þeir hlekkjuðu hann og þjáðu,
19 until the time that his word happened, and the LORD’s word proved him true.
en Guð lét hann þola eldraunina og batt að lokum enda á fangavist hans.
20 The king sent and freed him, even the ruler of peoples, and let him go free.
Og faraó sendi eftir Jósef og lét hann lausan,
21 He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all of his possessions,
og setti hann svo yfir allar eigur sínar.
22 to discipline his princes at his pleasure, and to teach his elders wisdom.
Þá hafði Jósef vald til að fangelsa höfðingja og segja ráðgjöfum konungs til.
23 Israel also came into Egypt. Jacob lived in the land of Ham.
Síðar kom Jakob (Ísrael) til Egyptalands og settist þar að með sonum sínum.
24 He increased his people greatly, and made them stronger than their adversaries.
Þau ár fjölgaði Ísrael mjög, já svo mjög að þeir urðu fjölmennari en Egyptar, sem réðu landinu.
25 He turned their heart to hate his people, to conspire against his servants.
En Guð sneri hjörtum Egypta gegn Ísrael, þeir hötuðu þá og hnepptu í þrældóm.
26 He sent Moses, his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen.
Þá útvaldi Guð Móse sem fulltrúa sinn og Aron honum til hjálpar.
27 They performed miracles among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.
Hann gjörði tákn meðal Egypta og vakti þannig ótta hjá þeim.
28 He sent darkness, and made it dark. They did not rebel against his words.
Þeir fóru að skipun Drottins og hann sendi myrkur yfir landið,
29 He turned their waters into blood, and killed their fish.
breytti ám og vötnum í blóð svo að fiskurinn dó.
30 Their land swarmed with frogs, even in the rooms of their kings.
Þá kom flóðbylgja af froskum – þeir voru um allt, jafnvel í svefnherbergi konungs!
31 He spoke, and swarms of flies came, and lice in all their borders.
Að skipun Móse fylltist landið af mývargi og flugum.
32 He gave them hail for rain, with lightning in their land.
Í stað regns dundi banvænt hagl yfir landið og eldingar skelfdu íbúana.
33 He struck their vines and also their fig trees, and shattered the trees of their country.
Vínviður þeirra og fíkjutré drápust, féllu brotin til jarðar.
34 He spoke, and the locusts came with the grasshoppers, without number.
Þá bauð hann engisprettum að naga allan grænan gróður
35 They ate up every plant in their land, and ate up the fruit of their ground.
og eyðileggja uppskeruna, – hvílík plága!
36 He struck also all the firstborn in their land, the first fruits of all their manhood.
Þá deyddi hann frumburðina, – elsta barn í hverri egypskri fjölskyldu – þar fór framtíðarvonin.
37 He brought them out with silver and gold. There was not one feeble person among his tribes.
Og Drottinn leiddi sitt fólk heilu og höldnu út úr Egyptalandi, hlaðið gulli og silfri. Ekkert þeirra var veikt eða vanmáttugt.
38 Egypt was glad when they departed, for the fear of them had fallen on them.
Og Egyptar voru því fegnastir þegar Ísraelsmenn héldu á brott, því að þeir óttuðust þá.
39 He spread a cloud for a covering, fire to give light in the night.
Um daga breiddi Guð út ský og hlífði þeim gegn brennheitri sólinni og um nætur lýsti hann þeim leiðina með eldstólpa.
40 They asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of the sky.
Þeir báðu um kjöt og hann sendi þeim lynghænsni og brauð gaf hann þeim – manna, brauð frá himni.
41 He opened the rock, and waters gushed out. They ran as a river in the dry places.
Hann opnaði klettinn og vatnið spratt fram og varð að læk í eyðimörkinni.
42 For he remembered his holy word, and Abraham, his servant.
Hann minntist loforðs síns til Abrahams, þjóns síns,
43 He brought his people out with joy, his chosen with singing.
og leiddi sitt útvalda fólk fagnandi út úr Egyptalandi.
44 He gave them the lands of the nations. They took the labor of the peoples in possession,
Og hann gaf þeim lönd heiðingjanna, sem stóðu í fullum blóma með þroskaða uppskeru og þeir átu það sem aðrir höfðu sáð til.
45 that they might keep his statutes, and observe his laws. Praise the LORD!
Allt skyldi þetta hvetja Ísrael til trúfesti og hlýðni við lög Drottins. Hallelúja!
