Luke 12
1 Meanwhile, when a multitude of many thousands had gathered together, so much so that they trampled on each other, he began to tell his disciples first of all, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

2 But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.
Il n'y a rien de caché qui ne doive être révélé, ni de secret qui ne doive être connu.
3 Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light. What you have spoken in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.
Aussi, tout ce que vous aurez dit dans les ténèbres sera répété dans la lumière, et ce que vous aurez dit à l'oreille en chambres closes sera prêché sur les toits!»
4 “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
«Et alors je vous dis ceci, à vous, mes amis: «Ne craignez pas ceux qui tuent le corps, et qui, après cela, ne peuvent rien faire de plus.
5 But I will warn you whom you should fear. Fear him who after he has killed, has power to cast into Gehenna (Geenna g1067). Yes, I tell you, fear him.
Je vais vous dire qui vous devez craindre: Vous devez craindre celui qui, après avoir envoyé la mort, a le pouvoir de jeter dans la Géhenne; oui, je vous le déclare, c'est celui-là que vous devez craindre.» (Geenna g1067)
6 “Are not five sparrows sold for two assaria coins? Not one of them is forgotten by God.
«Cinq passereaux ne se vendent-ils pas deux as? Et il n'en est pas un seul qui soit oublié devant Dieu!
7 But the very hairs of your head are all counted. Therefore do not be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.
Jusqu'aux cheveux de votre tête, tous ils sont comptés! Ne craignez point; vous, êtes de plus de valeur que bien des passereaux.»
8 “I tell you, everyone who confesses me before men, the Son of Man will also confess before the angels of God;
«Quiconque, je vous le déclare, me confessera devant les hommes, le Fils de l'homme le confessera aussi devant les anges de Dieu.
9 but he who denies me in the presence of men will be denied in the presence of God’s angels.
Qui m'aura renié devant les hommes, sera renié devant les anges de Dieu.
10 Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
A quiconque prononcera un mot contre le Fils de l'homme, il sera pardonné; mais à celui qui blasphémera contre le Saint-Esprit, il ne sera pas pardonné.»
11 When they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities, do not be anxious how or what you will answer or what you will say;
«Quand on vous traînera dans les synagogues, devant les magistrats, devant les autorités, ne vous inquiétez nullement ni de ce que vous direz pour votre défense ni comment vous parlerez.
12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that same hour what you must say.”
Car le saint Esprit vous enseignera, à l'heure même, ce qu'il faudra que vous disiez.»
13 One of the multitude said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
«Maître, lui dit quelqu'un de la foule, dis à mon frère de partager avec moi notre héritage.»
14 But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or an arbitrator over you?”
Il lui répondit: «Qui m'a constitué juge entre vous, ou faiseur de partages?»
15 He said to them, “Beware! Keep yourselves from covetousness, for a man’s life does not consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses.”
Puis il s'adressa aux autres: «Soyez bien attentifs à vous garder de toute avarice, car, en quelque abondance qu'on soit, la vie ne dépend pas de ce qu'on possède.»
16 He spoke a parable to them, saying, “The ground of a certain rich man produced abundantly.
Puis il leur raconta une parabole: «Le champ d'un homme riche avait beaucoup rapporté;
17 He reasoned within himself, saying, ‘What will I do, because I do not have room to store my crops?’
et il songeait en lui-même: Que ferai-je? car je n'ai pas où serrer ma récolte.
18 He said, ‘This is what I will do. I will pull down my barns, build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.
Ce que je ferai, dit-il, le voici: J'abattrai mes greniers; j'en construirai de plus grands; et j'y ramasserai tous mes produits et tous mes biens.»
19 I will tell my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.”’
Et puis je dirai à mon âme: «Mon âme, tu as là en réserve beaucoup de biens, pour beaucoup d'années; repose-toi, mange, bois et te réjouis!»
20 “But God said to him, ‘You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?’
Mais Dieu lui dit: «Insensé! c'est cette nuit-ci que ton âme te sera redemandée. Et ce que tu t'es préparé, à qui sera-t-il?
21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
Ainsi en sera-t-il de celui qui thésaurise pour lui-même et qui n'est pas riche pour Dieu.»
22 He said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious for your life, what you will eat, nor yet for your body, what you will wear.
Voilà pourquoi, ajouta-t-il, s'adressant à ses disciples, je vous dis de ne pas vous inquiéter: — pour votre vie de ce que vous mangerez, — pour votre corps de quoi vous vous vêtirez.
23 Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.
La vie est plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que le vêtement.
24 Consider the ravens: they do not sow, they do not reap, they have no warehouse or barn, and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds!
Observez les corbeaux; ils ne sèment, ni ne moissonnent; ils n'ont ni cellier, ni grenier; et Dieu les nourrit. Combien ne valez-vous pas plus que les oiseaux?
25 Which of you by being anxious can add a cubit to his height?
Qui de vous peut, par toutes ses préoccupations, ajouter une coudée à la durée de sa vie?
26 If then you are not able to do even the least things, why are you anxious about the rest?
Si donc vous ne pouvez même les moindres choses, pourquoi vous inquiéter des autres.
27 Consider the lilies, how they grow. They do not toil, neither do they spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Observez comment croissent les lis; ils ne travaillent ni ne filent. Cependant, je vous le déclare, Salomon lui-même dans toute sa gloire n'était pas vêtu comme l'un d'eux.
28 But if this is how God clothes the grass in the field, which today exists and tomorrow is cast into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?
Si donc, dans un champ, l'herbe qui existe aujourd'hui et qui demain sera jetée au four, Dieu la revêt de la sorte, combien plutôt vous-mêmes, gens de petite foi!»
29 “Do not seek what you will eat or what you will drink; neither be anxious.
«Ne vous préoccupez donc pas de ce que vous aurez à manger, ou de ce que vous aurez à boire, et ne vous en tourmentez pas l'esprit.
30 For the nations of the world seek after all of these things, but your Father knows that you need these things.
Oui, tout cela les païens du monde s'en enquièrent; mais, vous, votre Père sait que vous en avez besoin.
31 But seek God’s Kingdom, and all these things will be added to you.
Cherchez seulement son Royaume et ces choses vous seront données par surcroît.»
32 “Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.
Ne crains point, petit troupeau; car il a plu à votre Père de vous donner le Royaume.
33 Sell what you have and give gifts to the needy. Make for yourselves purses which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.
Vendez ce que vous possédez et le donnez en aumônes. Faites-vous des bourses inusables; faites-vous un trésor qui ne vous fasse point défaut dans les cieux, dont le voleur n'approche pas, que le ver ne détruise pas.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Car là où est votre trésor, là sera aussi votre coeur.»
35 “Let your waist be dressed and your lamps burning.
«Que vos reins soient ceints et vos lampes allumées.
36 Be like men watching for their lord when he returns from the wedding feast, that when he comes and knocks, they may immediately open to him.
Que vous soyez semblables à des hommes qui attendent leur maître revenant du festin de noce, afin de lui ouvrir aussitôt qu'il arrivera et dès qu'il frappera.
37 Blessed are those servants whom the lord will find watching when he comes. Most certainly I tell you that he will dress himself, make them recline, and will come and serve them.
Heureux ces serviteurs que le maître, en arrivant, trouvera veillant de la sorte; je vous le dis en vérité, c'est lui qui se ceindra, qui les fera asseoir à table et qui, passant de l'un à l'autre, se mettra à les servir.
38 They will be blessed if he comes in the second or third watch and finds them so.
Qu'il rentre à la seconde veille, qu'il rentre à la troisième, heureux seront ces serviteurs, s'il les trouve veillant ainsi!»
39 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
Sachez ceci: Si le maître de la maison savait à quelle heure doit venir le voleur, il veillerait et ne laisserait pas forcer sa maison.
40 Therefore be ready also, for the Son of Man is coming in an hour that you do not expect him.”
Vous aussi, soyez prêts, parce que c'est à une heure où vous n'y penserez pas que le Fils de l'homme viendra.»
41 Peter said to him, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everybody?”
Pierre lui demanda: «Est-ce pour nous, Seigneur, que tu dis cette parabole ou également pour tout le monde?»
42 The Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the right times?
Le Seigneur lui répondit: «Quel est l'administrateur. fidèle et prudent que le maître établira sur ses domestiques pour donner à chacun, au moment voulu, sa mesure de froment?
43 Blessed is that servant whom his lord will find doing so when he comes.
C'est celui que le maître, à son arrivée, trouvera agissant ainsi; heureux ce serviteur!
44 Truly I tell you that he will set him over all that he has.
En vérité, je vous le dis, le maître l'établira sur tous ses biens.
45 But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My lord delays his coming,’ and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and to be drunken,
Mais si ce serviteur dit en son coeur: «Mon maître tarde à venir», et qu'il se mette à battre valets et servantes, à manger et à boire, et à s'enivrer,
46 then the lord of that servant will come in a day when he is not expecting him and in an hour that he does not know, and will cut him in two, and place his portion with the unfaithful.
son maître surviendra au jour où ce Serviteur ne s'y attend pas et à une heure qu'il ignore et il le déchirera à coups de verge, et lui donnera le même lot qu'aux infidèles.
47 That servant who knew his lord’s will, and did not prepare nor do what he wanted, will be beaten with many stripes,
Ce serviteur qui connaissait la volonté de son maître et n'a rien préparé ni agi selon sa volonté, recevra plusieurs coups.
48 but he who did not know, and did things worthy of stripes, will be beaten with few stripes. To whomever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whom much was entrusted, of him more will be asked.
Quant à celui qui n'a pas connu cette volonté et a fait des choses qui méritent des coups, il en recevra peu. A quiconque beaucoup a été donné, beaucoup sera demandé; et de celui à qui on a beaucoup confié, il sera exigé davantage.»
49 “I came to throw fire on the earth. I wish it were already kindled.
«Je suis venu mettre le feu sur la terre! Ah! que je voudrais qu’il fût déjà allumé!
50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!
Il est un baptême dont je dois être baptisé, et dans quelle angoisse je suis jusqu'à ce qu'il soit accompli!
51 Do you think that I have come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, no, but rather division.
Croyez-vous que je sois venu donner la paix à la terre? Non, vous dis-je, c'est la division.
52 For from now on, there will be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
Car, désormais, cinq personnes étant dans une maison, elles seront partagées: trois contre deux et deux contre trois.
53 They will be divided, father against son, and son against father; mother against daughter, and daughter against her mother; mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”
Seront divisés: un père contre son fils et un fils contre son père; une mère contre sa fille et une fille contre sa mère; une belle-mère contre sa belle-fille et une belle-fille contre sa belle-mère.»
54 He said to the multitudes also, “When you see a cloud rising from the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it happens.
Il disait aussi aux multitudes: «Lorsque vous voyez, au couchant, un nuage apparaître, vous dites aussitôt: la pluie arrive, et elle arrive en effet.
55 When a south wind blows, you say, ‘There will be a scorching heat,’ and it happens.
Lorsque c'est le vent du midi qui souffle, vous dites: il fera chaud; et il en est ainsi.
56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how is it that you do not interpret this time?
Hypocrites, vous savez apprécier l'aspect de la terre et du ciel, comment ne savez? vous pas apprécier aussi le temps où vous êtes,
57 “Why do not you judge for yourselves what is right?
et pourquoi ne jugez-vous pas aussi par vous-mêmes de ce qui est juste?»
58 For when you are going with your adversary before the magistrate, try diligently on the way to be released from him, lest perhaps he drag you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison.
«Pendant que tu vas devant un magistrat avec ton adversaire, tâche, en chemin, de sortir d'affaire avec lui, de peur qu'il ne te traîne devant le juge, et que le juge ne te livre au réclamateur, et que le réclamateur ne te jette en prison.
59 I tell you, you will by no means get out of there until you have paid the very last penny.”
Tu n'en sortiras pas, je te le déclare, que tu n'aies payé jusqu'à la dernière obole.»
