1 Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place where he was about to come.
tataH paraM prabhuraparAn saptatiziSyAn niyujya svayaM yAni nagarANi yAni sthAnAni ca gamiSyati tAni nagarANi tAni sthAnAni ca prati dvau dvau janau prahitavAn|
2 Then he said to them, “The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send out laborers into his harvest.
tebhyaH kathayAmAsa ca zasyAni bahUnIti satyaM kintu chedakA alpe; tasmAddhetoH zasyakSetre chedakAn aparAnapi preSayituM kSetrasvAminaM prArthayadhvaM|
3 Go your ways. Behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.
yUyaM yAta, pazyata, vRkANAM madhye meSazAvakAniva yuSmAn prahiNomi|
4 Carry no purse, nor wallet, nor sandals. Greet no one on the way.
yUyaM kSudraM mahad vA vasanasampuTakaM pAdukAzca mA gRhlIta, mArgamadhye kamapi mA namata ca|
5 Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’
aparaJca yUyaM yad yat nivezanaM pravizatha tatra nivezanasyAsya maGgalaM bhUyAditi vAkyaM prathamaM vadata|
6 If a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.
tasmAt tasmin nivezane yadi maGgalapAtraM sthAsyati tarhi tanmaGgalaM tasya bhaviSyati, nocet yuSmAn prati parAvarttiSyate|
7 Remain in that same house, eating and drinking the things they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.
aparaJca te yatkiJcid dAsyanti tadeva bhuktvA pItvA tasminnivezane sthAsyatha; yataH karmmakArI jano bhRtim arhati; gRhAd gRhaM mA yAsyatha|
8 Into whatever city you enter and they receive you, eat the things that are set before you.
anyacca yuSmAsu kimapi nagaraM praviSTeSu lokA yadi yuSmAkam AtithyaM kariSyanti, tarhi yat khAdyam upasthAsyanti tadeva khAdiSyatha|
9 Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘God’s Kingdom has come near to you.’
tannagarasthAn rogiNaH svasthAn kariSyatha, IzvarIyaM rAjyaM yuSmAkam antikam Agamat kathAmetAJca pracArayiSyatha|
10 But into whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say,
kintu kimapi puraM yuSmAsu praviSTeSu lokA yadi yuSmAkam AtithyaM na kariSyanti, tarhi tasya nagarasya panthAnaM gatvA kathAmetAM vadiSyatha,
11 ‘Even the dust from your city that clings to us, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that God’s Kingdom has come near to you.’
yuSmAkaM nagarIyA yA dhUlyo'smAsu samalagan tA api yuSmAkaM prAtikUlyena sAkSyArthaM sampAtayAmaH; tathApIzvararAjyaM yuSmAkaM samIpam Agatam iti nizcitaM jAnIta|
12 I tell you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.
ahaM yuSmabhyaM yathArthaM kathayAmi, vicAradine tasya nagarasya dazAtaH sidomo dazA sahyA bhaviSyati|
13 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
hA hA korAsIn nagara, hA hA baitsaidAnagara yuvayormadhye yAdRzAni AzcaryyANi karmmANyakriyanta, tAni karmmANi yadi sorasIdono rnagarayorakAriSyanta, tadA ito bahudinapUrvvaM tannivAsinaH zaNavastrANi paridhAya gAtreSu bhasma vilipya samupavizya samakhetsyanta|
14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.
ato vicAradivase yuSmAkaM dazAtaH sorasIdonnivAsinAM dazA sahyA bhaviSyati|
15 You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades (Hadēs g86).
he kapharnAhUm, tvaM svargaM yAvad unnatA kintu narakaM yAvat nyagbhaviSyasi| (Hadēs g86)
16 Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me. Whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”
yo jano yuSmAkaM vAkyaM gRhlAti sa mamaiva vAkyaM gRhlAti; kiJca yo jano yuSmAkam avajJAM karoti sa mamaivAvajJAM karoti; yo jano mamAvajJAM karoti ca sa matprerakasyaivAvajJAM karoti|
17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!”
atha te saptatiziSyA Anandena pratyAgatya kathayAmAsuH, he prabho bhavato nAmnA bhUtA apyasmAkaM vazIbhavanti|
18 He said to them, “I saw Satan having fallen like lightning from heaven.
tadAnIM sa tAn jagAda, vidyutamiva svargAt patantaM zaitAnam adarzam|
19 Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you.
pazyata sarpAn vRzcikAn ripoH sarvvaparAkramAMzca padatalai rdalayituM yuSmabhyaM zaktiM dadAmi tasmAd yuSmAkaM kApi hAni rna bhaviSyati|
20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
bhUtA yuSmAkaM vazIbhavanti, etannimittat mA samullasata, svarge yuSmAkaM nAmAni likhitAni santIti nimittaM samullasata|
21 In that same hour, Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.”
tadghaTikAyAM yIzu rmanasi jAtAhlAdaH kathayAmAsa he svargapRthivyorekAdhipate pitastvaM jJAnavatAM viduSAJca lokAnAM purastAt sarvvametad aprakAzya bAlakAnAM purastAt prAkAzaya etasmAddhetostvAM dhanyaM vadAmi, he pitaritthaM bhavatu yad etadeva tava gocara uttamam|
22 Turning to the disciples, he said, “All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son desires to reveal him.”
pitrA sarvvANi mayi samarpitAni pitaraM vinA kopi putraM na jAnAti kiJca putraM vinA yasmai janAya putrastaM prakAzitavAn taJca vinA kopi pitaraM na jAnAti|
23 Turning to the disciples, he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see,
tapaH paraM sa ziSyAn prati parAvRtya guptaM jagAda, yUyametAni sarvvANi pazyatha tato yuSmAkaM cakSUMSi dhanyAni|
24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which you see, and did not see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and did not hear them.”
yuSmAnahaM vadAmi, yUyaM yAni sarvvANi pazyatha tAni bahavo bhaviSyadvAdino bhUpatayazca draSTumicchantopi draSTuM na prApnuvan, yuSmAbhi ryA yAH kathAzca zrUyante tAH zrotumicchantopi zrotuM nAlabhanta|
25 Behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit consummate (aiōnios g166) life?"
anantaram eko vyavasthApaka utthAya taM parIkSituM papraccha, he upadezaka anantAyuSaH prAptaye mayA kiM karaNIyaM? (aiōnios g166)
26 He said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”
yIzuH pratyuvAca, atrArthe vyavasthAyAM kiM likhitamasti? tvaM kIdRk paThasi?
27 He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
tataH sovadat, tvaM sarvvAntaHkaraNaiH sarvvaprANaiH sarvvazaktibhiH sarvvacittaizca prabhau paramezvare prema kuru, samIpavAsini svavat prema kuru ca|
28 He said to him, “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live.”
tadA sa kathayAmAsa, tvaM yathArthaM pratyavocaH, ittham Acara tenaiva jIviSyasi|
29 But he, desiring to justify himself, asked Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?”
kintu sa janaH svaM nirddoSaM jJApayituM yIzuM papraccha, mama samIpavAsI kaH? tato yIzuH pratyuvAca,
30 Jesus answered, “A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
eko jano yirUzAlampurAd yirIhopuraM yAti, etarhi dasyUnAM kareSu patite te tasya vastrAdikaM hRtavantaH tamAhatya mRtaprAyaM kRtvA tyaktvA yayuH|
31 By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
akasmAd eko yAjakastena mArgeNa gacchan taM dRSTvA mArgAnyapArzvena jagAma|
32 In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
ittham eko levIyastatsthAnaM prApya tasyAntikaM gatvA taM vilokyAnyena pArzvena jagAma|
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion,
kintvekaH zomiroNIyo gacchan tatsthAnaM prApya taM dRSTvAdayata|
34 came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
tasyAntikaM gatvA tasya kSateSu tailaM drAkSArasaJca prakSipya kSatAni baddhvA nijavAhanopari tamupavezya pravAsIyagRham AnIya taM siSeve|
35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the host, and said to him, ‘Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.’
parasmin divase nijagamanakAle dvau mudrApAdau tadgRhasvAmine dattvAvadat janamenaM sevasva tatra yo'dhiko vyayo bhaviSyati tamahaM punarAgamanakAle parizotsyAmi|
36 Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?”
eSAM trayANAM madhye tasya dasyuhastapatitasya janasya samIpavAsI kaH? tvayA kiM budhyate?
37 He said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”
tataH sa vyavasthApakaH kathayAmAsa yastasmin dayAM cakAra| tadA yIzuH kathayAmAsa tvamapi gatvA tathAcara|
38 As they went on their way, he entered into a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
tataH paraM te gacchanta ekaM grAmaM pravivizuH; tadA marthAnAmA strI svagRhe tasyAtithyaM cakAra|
39 She had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word.
tasmAt mariyam nAmadheyA tasyA bhaginI yIzoH padasamIpa uvavizya tasyopadezakathAM zrotumArebhe|
40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she came up to him, and said, “Lord, do not you care that my sister left me to serve alone? Ask her therefore to help me.”
kintu marthA nAnAparicaryyAyAM vyagrA babhUva tasmAddhetostasya samIpamAgatya babhASe; he prabho mama bhaginI kevalaM mamopari sarvvakarmmaNAM bhAram arpitavatI tatra bhavatA kiJcidapi na mano nidhIyate kim? mama sAhAyyaM karttuM bhavAn tAmAdizatu|
41 Jesus answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,
tato yIzuH pratyuvAca he marthe he marthe, tvaM nAnAkAryyeSu cintitavatI vyagrA cAsi,
42 but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
kintu prayojanIyam ekamAtram Aste| aparaJca yamuttamaM bhAgaM kopi harttuM na zaknoti saeva mariyamA vRtaH|
