Judges 6
1 The children of Israel did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, so the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.
Los hijos de Israel hicieron lo que era malo a los ojos de Yahvé, por lo que Yahvé los entregó a la mano de Madián durante siete años.
2 The hand of Midian prevailed against Israel; and because of Midian the children of Israel made themselves the dens which are in the mountains, the caves, and the strongholds.
La mano de Madián prevaleció contra Israel, y a causa de Madián los hijos de Israel se hicieron las guaridas que hay en las montañas, las cuevas y las fortalezas.
3 So it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites, the Amalekites, and the children of the east came up against them.
Y cuando Israel hubo sembrado, subieron contra ellos los madianitas, los amalecitas y los hijos del oriente.
4 They encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, until you come to Gaza. They left no sustenance in Israel, and no sheep, ox, or donkey.
Acamparon contra ellos y destruyeron el producto de la tierra, hasta llegar a Gaza. No dejaron sustento en Israel, ni ovejas, ni bueyes, ni asnos.
5 For they came up with their livestock and their tents. They came in as locusts for multitude. Both they and their camels were without number; and they came into the land to destroy it.
Porque subieron con su ganado y sus tiendas. Entraron como langostas por la multitud. Tanto ellos como sus camellos eran innumerables; y entraron en la tierra para destruirla.
6 Israel was brought very low because of Midian; and the children of Israel cried to the LORD.
Israel quedó muy abatido a causa de Madián, y los hijos de Israel clamaron a Yahvé.
7 When the children of Israel cried to the LORD because of Midian,
Cuando los hijos de Israel clamaron a Yahvé a causa de Madián,
8 The LORD sent a prophet to the children of Israel; and he said to them, “The LORD, the God of Israel, says, ‘I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you out of the house of bondage.
Yahvé envió un profeta a los hijos de Israel, y les dijo: “Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, dice: ‘Yo os hice subir de Egipto y os saqué de la casa de servidumbre.
9 I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of all who oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land.
Os libré de la mano de los egipcios y de la mano de todos los que os oprimían, y los eché de delante de vosotros, y os di su tierra.
10 I said to you, “I am the LORD your God. You shall not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.” But you have not listened to my voice.’”
Yo te dije: “Yo soy Yahvé, tu Dios. No temerás a los dioses de los amorreos, en cuya tierra habitas”. Pero no habéis escuchado mi voz”.
11 The LORD’s angel came and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah, that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite. His son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press, to hide it from the Midianites.
El ángel del Señor vino y se sentó bajo la encina que estaba en Ofra, que pertenecía a Joás el abiezerita. Su hijo Gedeón estaba batiendo trigo en el lagar, para ocultarlo de los madianitas.
12 The LORD’s angel appeared to him, and said to him, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
El ángel de Yahvé se le apareció y le dijo: “¡Yahvé está contigo, valiente!”
13 Gideon said to him, “Oh, my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? Where are all his wondrous works which our fathers told us of, saying, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has cast us off, and delivered us into the hand of Midian.”
Gedeón le dijo: “Oh, señor mío, si Yahvé está con nosotros, ¿por qué entonces nos ha sucedido todo esto? ¿Dónde están todas sus maravillas, de las que nos hablaron nuestros padres, diciendo: ‘No nos sacó Yahvé de Egipto’? Pero ahora el Señor nos ha desechado y nos ha entregado en manos de Madián”.
14 The LORD looked at him, and said, “Go in this your might, and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Have not I sent you?”
El Señor lo miró y le dijo: “Ve con esta tu fuerza y salva a Israel de la mano de Madián. ¿No te he enviado yo?”
15 He said to him, “O Lord, how shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
Le dijo: “Señor, ¿cómo salvaré a Israel? He aquí que mi familia es la más pobre de Manasés, y yo soy el más pequeño en la casa de mi padre”.
16 The LORD said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.”
Yahvé le dijo: “Ciertamente, yo estaré contigo, y herirás a los madianitas como a un solo hombre”.
17 He said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, then show me a sign that it is you who talk with me.
Le dijo: “Si ahora he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, muéstrame una señal de que eres tú quien habla conmigo.
18 Please do not go away until I come to you, and bring out my present, and lay it before you.” He said, “I will wait until you come back.”
Por favor, no te vayas hasta que venga a ti, y saque mi regalo y lo ponga delante de ti.” Dijo: “Esperaré hasta que vuelvas”.
19 Gideon went in and prepared a young goat and unleavened cakes of an ephah of meal. He put the meat in a basket and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out to him under the oak, and presented it.
Gedeón entró y preparó un cabrito y tortas sin levadura de un efa de harina. Puso la carne en un cesto y el caldo en una olla, y se lo llevó debajo de la encina, y lo presentó.
20 The angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened cakes, and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” He did so.
El ángel de Dios le dijo: “Toma la carne y las tortas sin levadura, ponlas sobre esta roca y vierte el caldo”. Así lo hizo.
21 Then the LORD’s angel stretched out the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and fire went up out of the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. Then the LORD’s angel departed out of his sight.
Entonces el ángel de Yahvé extendió la punta del bastón que tenía en la mano y tocó la carne y las tortas sin levadura; y subió fuego de la roca y consumió la carne y las tortas sin levadura. Entonces el ángel de Yahvé se alejó de su vista.
22 Gideon saw that he was the LORD’s angel; and Gideon said, “Alas, Lord GOD! Because I have seen the LORD’s angel face to face!”
Gedeón vio que era el ángel de Yahvé, y dijo: “¡Ay, Señor Yahvé! Porque he visto al ángel de Yahvé cara a cara”.
23 The LORD said to him, “Peace be to you! Do not be afraid. You shall not die.”
El Señor le dijo: “¡La paz sea contigo! No tengas miedo. No morirás”.
24 Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it “The LORD is Peace.” To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
Entonces Gedeón construyó allí un altar a Yahvé, y lo llamó “Yahvé es la Paz”. Hasta el día de hoy sigue estando en Ofra de los abiezritas.
25 That same night, the LORD said to him, “Take your father’s bull, even the second bull seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is by it.
Esa misma noche, Yahvé le dijo: “Toma el toro de tu padre, el segundo toro de siete años, y derriba el altar de Baal que tiene tu padre, y corta la Asera que está junto a él.
26 Then build an altar to the LORD your God on the top of this stronghold, in an orderly way, and take the second bull, and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which you shall cut down.”
Luego construye un altar a Yahvé, tu Dios, en la cima de esta fortaleza, de manera ordenada, y toma el segundo toro, y ofrece un holocausto con la madera de la Asera que cortarás.”
27 Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had spoken to him. Because he feared his father’s household and the men of the city, he could not do it by day, but he did it by night.
Entonces Gedeón tomó a diez hombres de sus servidores e hizo lo que el Señor le había dicho. Como temía a la familia de su padre y a los hombres de la ciudad, no pudo hacerlo de día, sino que lo hizo de noche.
28 When the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was broken down, and the Asherah was cut down that was by it, and the second bull was offered on the altar that was built.
Cuando los hombres de la ciudad se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí que el altar de Baal había sido derribado, y el Asera que estaba junto a él había sido cortado, y el segundo toro había sido ofrecido sobre el altar que había sido construido.
29 They said to one another, “Who has done this thing?” When they inquired and asked, they said, “Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.”
Se dijeron unos a otros: “¿Quién ha hecho esto?” Cuando indagaron y preguntaron, dijeron: “Gedeón, hijo de Joás, ha hecho esto”.
30 Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, because he has broken down the altar of Baal, and because he has cut down the Asherah that was by it.”
Entonces los hombres de la ciudad dijeron a Joás: “Saca a tu hijo para que muera, porque ha derribado el altar de Baal y porque ha cortado la Asera que estaba junto a él”.
31 Joash said to all who stood against him, “Will you contend for Baal? Or will you save him? He who will contend for him, let him be put to death by morning! If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because someone has broken down his altar!”
Joás dijo a todos los que se oponían a él: “¿Pretendéis defender a Baal? ¿O lo salvaréis? El que se enfrente a él, que muera por la mañana. Si es un dios, que se defienda, porque alguien ha derribado su altar”.
32 Therefore on that day he named him Jerub-Baal, saying, “Let Baal contend against him, because he has broken down his altar.”
Por eso ese día le puso el nombre de Jerub-Baal, diciendo: “Que Baal contienda por él, porque ha derribado su altar”.
33 Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east assembled themselves together; and they passed over, and encamped in the valley of Jezreel.
Entonces se reunieron todos los madianitas y amalecitas y los hijos del oriente, y pasaron y acamparon en el valle de Jezreel.
34 But the LORD’s Spirit came on Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered together to follow him.
Pero el Espíritu de Yahvé vino sobre Gedeón, y éste tocó la trompeta; y Abiezer se reunió para seguirlo.
35 He sent messengers throughout all Manasseh, and they also were gathered together to follow him. He sent messengers to Asher, to Zebulun, and to Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.
Envió mensajeros a todo Manasés, y también se reunieron para seguirlo. Envió mensajeros a Aser, a Zabulón y a Neftalí, y éstos subieron a su encuentro.
36 Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken,
Gedeón dijo a Dios: “Si salvas a Israel por mi mano, como has dicho,
37 behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken.”
he aquí que pondré un vellón de lana sobre la era. Si sólo hay rocío en el vellón, y está seco en toda la tierra, entonces sabré que salvarás a Israel por mi mano, como has dicho.”
38 It was so; for he rose up early on the next day, and pressed the fleece together, and wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.
Así fue, pues al día siguiente se levantó temprano, apretó el vellón y escurrió el rocío del vellón, un recipiente lleno de agua.
39 Gideon said to God, “Do not let your anger be kindled against me, and I will speak but this once. Please let me make a trial just this once with the fleece. Let it now be dry only on the fleece, and on all the ground let there be dew.”
Gedeón le dijo a Dios: “No dejes que se encienda tu ira contra mí, y sólo hablaré esta vez. Por favor, déjame hacer una prueba sólo esta vez con el vellón. Que ahora esté seco sólo el vellón, y que en toda la tierra haya rocío”.
40 God did so that night; for it was dry on the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.
Así lo hizo Dios aquella noche, pues sólo estaba seco el vellón, y había rocío en toda la tierra.
