Galatians 3
1 Foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you not to obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openly portrayed among you as crucified?
¡Oh, insensatos gálatas! ¿cómo ha podido nadie fascinaros a vosotros, ante cuyos ojos fue presentado Jesucristo clavado en una cruz?
2 I just want to learn this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?
Quisiera saber de vosotros esto solo: si recibisteis el Espíritu por obra de la Ley o por la palabra de la fe.
3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now completed in the flesh?
¿Tan insensatos sois que habiendo comenzado por Espíritu, acabáis ahora en carne?
4 Did you suffer so many things in vain, if it is indeed in vain?
¿Valía la pena padecer tanto si todo fue en vano?
5 He therefore who supplies the Spirit to you and does miracles among you, does he do it by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?
Aquel que os suministra el Espíritu y obra milagros en vosotros ¿lo hace por las obras de la Ley o por la palabra de la fe?
6 Even so, Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness.”
Porque ( está escrito ): “Abrahán creyó a Dios, y le fue imputado a justicia”.
7 Know therefore that those who are of faith are children of Abraham.
Sabed, pues, que los que viven de la fe, esos son hijos de Abrahán.
8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the Good News beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you all the nations will be blessed.”
Y la Escritura, previendo que Dios justifica a los gentiles por la fe, anunció de antemano a Abrahán la buena nueva: “En ti serán bendecidas todas las naciones”.
9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.
De modo que, junto con el creyente Abrahán, son bendecidos los que creen.
10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them.”
Porque cuantos vivan de las obras de la Ley, están sujetos a la maldición; pues escrito está: “Maldito todo aquel que no persevera en todo lo que está escrito en el Libro de la Ley para cumplirlo”.
11 Now that no man is justified by the law before God is evident, for, “The righteous will live by faith.”
Por lo demás, es manifiesto que por la Ley nadie se justifica ante Dios, porque “el justo vivirá de fe”;
12 The law is not of faith, but, “The man who does them will live by them.”
en tanto que la Ley no viene de la fe, sino que: “El que hiciere estas cosas, vivirá por ellas”.
13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree,”
Cristo, empero, nos redimió de la maldición de la Ley, haciéndose por nosotros maldición, porque escrito está: “Maldito sea todo el que pende del madero”,
14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
para que en Cristo Jesús alcanzase a los gentiles la bendición de Abrahán, y por medio de la fe recibiésemos el Espíritu prometido.
15 Brothers, speaking of human terms, though it is only a man’s covenant, yet when it has been confirmed, no one makes it void or adds to it.
Hermanos, voy a hablaros al modo humano: Un testamento, a pesar de ser obra de hombre, una vez ratificado nadie puede anularlo, ni hacerle adición.
16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his offspring. He does not say, “To descendants”, as of many, but as of one, “To your offspring”, which is Christ.
Ahora bien, las promesas fueron dadas a Abrahán y a su descendiente. No dice: “y a los descendientes” como si se tratase de muchos, sino como de uno: “y a tu Descendiente”, el cual es Cristo.
17 Now I say this: A covenant confirmed beforehand by God in Christ, the law, which came four hundred thirty years after, does not annul, so as to make the promise of no effect.
Digo, pues, esto: “Un testamento ratificado antes por Dios, no puede ser anulado por la Ley dada cuatrocientos treinta años después, de manera que deje sin efecto la promesa.
18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no more of promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by promise.
Porque si la herencia es por Ley, ya no es por promesa. Y sin embargo, Dios se la dio gratuitamente por promesa”.
19 Then why is there the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise has been made. It was ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator.
Entonces ¿para qué la Ley? Fue añadida a causa de las transgresiones, hasta que viniese el Descendiente a quien fue hecha la promesa; y fue promulgada por ángeles por mano de un mediador.
20 Now a mediator is not between one, but God is one.
Ahora bien, no hay mediador de uno solo, y Dios es uno solo.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could make alive, most certainly righteousness would have been of the law.
Entonces ¿la Ley está en contra de las promesas de Dios? De ninguna manera. Porque si se hubiera dado una Ley capaz de vivificar, realmente la justicia procedería de la Ley.
22 But the Scripture imprisoned all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
Pero la Escritura lo ha encerrado todo bajo el pecado, a fin de que la promesa, que es por la fe en Jesucristo, fuese dada a los que creyesen.
23 But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, confined for the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
Mas antes de venir la fe, estábamos bajo la custodia de la Ley, encerrados para la fe que había de ser revelada.
24 So that the law has become our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
De manera que la Ley fue nuestro ayo para conducirnos a Cristo, a fin de que seamos justificados por la fe.
25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
Mas venida la fe, ya no estamos bajo el ayo,
26 For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus.
por cuanto todos sois hijos de Dios por la fe en Cristo Jesús.
27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Pues todos los que habéis sido bautizados en Cristo estáis vestidos de Cristo.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
No hay ya judío ni griego, no hay esclavo ni libre, no hay varón y mujer; porque todos vosotros sois uno solo en Cristo Jesús.
29 If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring and heirs according to promise.
Y siendo vosotros de Cristo, sois por tanto descendientes de Abrahán, herederos según la promesa.
