Ephesians 4
1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,
Moi donc, prisonnier dans le Seigneur, je vous prie de marcher d'une manière digne de l'appel auquel vous avez été appelés,
2 with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love,
en toute humilité, avec patience, vous supportant les uns les autres dans la charité,
3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
vous appliquant à conserver l'unité de l'Esprit par le lien de la paix.
4 There is one body and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling,
Il y a un seul corps et un seul Esprit, comme aussi vous avez été appelés dans une seule espérance de votre vocation,
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
un seul Seigneur, une seule foi, un seul baptême,
6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in us all.
un seul Dieu et Père de tous, qui est au-dessus de tous, par tous et en nous tous.
7 But to each one of us, the grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Mais à chacun de nous, la grâce a été donnée selon la mesure du don de Christ.
8 Therefore he says, “When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to people.”
C'est pourquoi il dit, « Quand il est monté au ciel, il a conduit la captivité en captivité, et donnait des cadeaux aux gens. »
9 Now this, “He ascended”, what is it but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?
Or, cette phrase: « Il est monté », qu'est-ce que cela signifie, sinon qu'il est d'abord descendu dans les profondeurs de la terre?
10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.
Celui qui est descendu est celui qui est aussi monté bien au-dessus de tous les cieux, afin de remplir toutes choses.
11 He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers;
Il a donné les uns comme apôtres, les autres comme prophètes, les autres comme évangélistes, les autres comme bergers et docteurs;
12 for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ,
pour le perfectionnement des saints en vue de l'œuvre du service, pour l'édification du corps de Christ,
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
jusqu'à ce que nous soyons tous parvenus à l'unité de la foi et de la connaissance du Fils de Dieu, à l'état d'homme accompli, à la mesure de la stature de la plénitude de Christ,
14 that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;
afin que nous ne soyons plus des enfants, ballottés et emportés à tout vent de doctrine, par la ruse des hommes, par des artifices, selon les voies de l'erreur;
15 but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ,
mais que, parlant la vérité dans la charité, nous croissions en toutes choses vers celui qui est le chef, Christ,
16 from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love.
duquel tout le corps, ajusté et soudé par ce que chaque jointure fournit, selon le travail en mesure de chaque partie individuelle, fait croître le corps pour son édification dans la charité.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind,
C'est pourquoi je dis et j'atteste dans le Seigneur que vous ne marchez plus comme le reste des païens, dans la futilité de leur pensée,
18 being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts.
étant obscurcis dans leur intelligence, éloignés de la vie de Dieu à cause de l'ignorance qui est en eux, à cause de l'endurcissement de leur cœur.
19 They, having become callous, gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
Devenus insensibles, ils se sont livrés à la convoitise, pour commettre toutes sortes d'impuretés avec cupidité.
20 But you did not learn Christ that way,
Mais ce n'est pas ainsi que vous avez appris le Christ,
21 if indeed you heard him and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus:
si toutefois vous l'avez entendu et avez été instruits en lui, comme la vérité l'est en Jésus:
22 that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit,
que vous vous débarrassiez, en ce qui concerne votre ancienne manière de vivre, du vieil homme qui se corrompt selon les convoitises de la tromperie,
23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
que vous soyez renouvelés dans l'esprit de votre intelligence,
24 and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.
et que vous revêtiez l'homme nouveau, qui, à la ressemblance de Dieu, a été créé dans la justice et la sainteté de la vérité.
25 Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.
C'est pourquoi, renonçant au mensonge, dites la vérité chacun à son prochain, car nous sommes membres les uns des autres.
26 “Be angry, and do not sin.” Do not let the sun go down on your wrath,
« Sois en colère, et ne pèche pas. » Ne laisse pas le soleil se coucher sur ta colère,
27 and do not give place to the devil.
et ne cède pas au diable.
28 Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need.
Que celui qui volait ne vole plus; mais qu'il travaille plutôt, produisant de ses mains quelque chose de bon, afin d'avoir de quoi donner à celui qui est dans le besoin.
29 Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Qu'il ne sorte de votre bouche aucun discours corrompu, mais seulement ce qui est bon pour édifier les autres selon les besoins, afin que cela fasse grâce à ceux qui entendent.
30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
N'attristez pas le Saint-Esprit de Dieu, dans lequel vous avez été scellés pour le jour de la rédemption.
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice.
Que toute amertume, tout courroux, toute colère, toute protestation et toute calomnie soient écartés de vous, avec toute malice.
32 And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.
Et soyez bons les uns envers les autres, au cœur tendre, vous pardonnant mutuellement, comme Dieu aussi en Christ vous a pardonné.
