Ecclesiastes 5
1 Guard your steps when you go to God’s house; for to draw near to listen is better than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.
Guarda o teu pé, quando entrares na casa de Deus; e inclina-te mais a ouvir do que a offerecer sacrificios de tolos, pois não sabem que fazem mal.
2 Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and you on earth. Therefore let your words be few.
Não te precipites com a tua bocca, nem o teu coração se apresse a pronunciar palavra alguma diante de Deus; porque Deus está nos céus, e tu estás sobre a terra; pelo que sejam poucas as tuas palavras.
3 For as a dream comes with a multitude of cares, so a fool’s speech with a multitude of words.
Porque, da muita occupação vem os sonhos, e a voz do tolo da multidão das palavras.
4 When you vow a vow to God, do not defer to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay that which you vow.
Quando a Deus fizeres algum voto, não tardes em cumpril-o; porque não se agrada de tolos: o que votares, paga-o.
5 It is better that you should not vow, than that you should vow and not pay.
Melhor é que não votes do que votes e não pagues.
6 Do not allow your mouth to lead you into sin. Do not protest before the messenger that this was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?
Não consintas que a tua bocca faça peccar a tua carne, nem digas diante do anjo que foi erro: por que causa se iraria Deus contra a tua voz, que destruisse a obra das tuas mãos?
7 For in the multitude of dreams there are vanities, as well as in many words; but you must fear God.
Porque, como na multidão dos sonhos ha vaidades, assim o ha nas muitas palavras: mas tu teme a Deus.
8 If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a district, do not marvel at the matter, for one official is eyed by a higher one, and there are officials over them.
Se vires em alguma provincia oppressão de pobres, e violencia do juizo e da justiça, não te maravilhes de similhante caso; porque o que mais alto é do que os altos n'isso attenta; e ha mais altos do que elles.
9 Moreover the profit of the earth is for all. The king profits from the field.
O proveito da terra é para todos: até o rei se serve do campo.
10 He who loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver, nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.
O que amar o dinheiro nunca se fartará do dinheiro; e quem amar a abundancia nunca se fartará da renda: tambem isto é vaidade.
11 When goods increase, those who eat them are increased; and what advantage is there to its owner, except to feast on them with his eyes?
Onde a fazenda se multiplica, ali se multiplicam tambem os que a comem: que mais proveito pois teem os seus donos do que verem-n'a com os seus olhos?
12 The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep.
Doce é o somno do trabalhador, quer coma pouco quer muito; porém a fartura do rico não o deixa dormir.
13 There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth kept by its owner to his harm.
Ha mal que vi debaixo do sol, e attrahe enfermidades: as riquezas que os seus donos guardam para o seu proprio mal;
14 Those riches perish by misfortune, and if he has fathered a son, there is nothing in his hand.
Porque as mesmas riquezas se perdem com enfadonhas occupações, e gerando algum filho nada lhe fica na sua mão.
15 As he came out of his mother’s womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.
Como saiu do ventre de sua mãe, assim nú se tornará, indo-se como veiu; e nada tomará do seu trabalho, que possa levar na sua mão
16 This also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go. And what profit does he have who labors for the wind?
Assim que tambem isto é um mal que attrahe enfermidades, que, infallivelmente, como veiu, assim se vae: e que proveito lhe vem de trabalhar para o vento,
17 All his days he also eats in darkness, he is frustrated, and has sickness and wrath.
E de haver comido todos os seus dias nas trevas, e de padecer muito enfado, e enfermidade, e cruel furor?
18 Behold, that which I have seen to be good and proper is for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labor, in which he labors under the sun, all the days of his life which God has given him; for this is his portion.
Eis aqui o que eu vi, uma boa e bella coisa: comer e beber, e gozar-se do bem de todo o seu trabalho, em que trabalhou debaixo do sol, durante o numero dos dias da sua vida que Deus lhe deu, porque esta é a sua porção.
19 Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God.
E todo o homem, a quem Deus deu riquezas e fazenda, e lhe deu poder para comer d'ellas, e tomar a sua porção, e gozar do seu trabalho: isto é dom de Deus.
20 For he shall not often reflect on the days of his life, because God occupies him with the joy of his heart.
Porque não se lembrará muito dos dias da sua vida; porquanto Deus lhe responde com alegria do seu coração.
