Deuteronomy 24

1 When a man takes a wife and marries her, then it shall be, if she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some unseemly thing in her, that he shall write her a certificate of divorce, put it in her hand, and send her out of his house.

Un homme prend une femme et devient son mari, mais il arrive qu'elle n'entre pas en grâce auprès de lui, parce qu'il a découvert en elle quelque chose de repoussant, il écrit pour elle une lettre de divorce, la lui remet en main et la renvoie de sa maison;

2 When she has departed out of his house, she may go and be another man’s wife.

elle quitte sa maison et part; puis elle devient la femme d'un autre mari;

3 If the latter husband hates her, and writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house; or if the latter husband dies, who took her to be his wife;

ce dernier mari la prend en haine, et écrit pour elle une lettre de divorce, et la lui remet en main et la renvoie de sa maison; ou bien l'homme qui l'avait épousée en dernier lieu, vient à mourir;

4 her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife after she is defiled; for that would be an abomination to the LORD. You shall not cause the land to sin, which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance.

dans ce cas le premier mari qui l'a répudiée, ne pourra la reprendre pour femme après qu'elle se sera souillée, car c'est l'abomination de l'Éternel, et tu ne dois pas entacher de péché le pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne en propriété.

5 When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go out in the army, neither shall he be assigned any business. He shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer his wife whom he has taken.

Un nouveau marié ne fera point la campagne avec l'armée; on ne lui imposera aucune charge quelconque; il sera exempté pendant un an pour sa maison, afin qu'il puisse réjouir la femme qu'il a épousée.

6 No man shall take the mill or the upper millstone as a pledge, for he takes a life in pledge.

L'on ne se nantira pas du moulin et de la meule; car ce serait se nantir de la vie même.

7 If a man is found stealing any of his brothers of the children of Israel, and he deals with him as a slave, or sells him, then that thief shall die. So you shall remove the evil from among you.

Si quelqu'un est surpris volant un homme, l'un de ses frères, l'un des enfants d'Israël, et l'employant comme esclave et le vendant, ce voleur-là mourra. Ote ainsi le mal du milieu de toi.

8 Be careful in the plague of leprosy, that you observe diligently and do according to all that the Levitical priests teach you. As I commanded them, so you shall observe to do.

Prends garde à l'affection de la lèpre, afin d'être bien attentif à faire tout ce que vous enjoindront les Prêtres, les Lévites. Ayez soin de vous conformer à ce que je leur ai prescrit.

9 Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam, by the way as you came out of Egypt.

Rappelle-toi ce que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, a fait à Marie, pendant la route lors de votre sortie de l'Egypte.

10 When you lend your neighbor any kind of loan, you shall not go into his house to get his pledge.

Lorsque tu feras à ton frère un prêt quelconque, tu n'entreras point dans sa maison, pour t'y saisir d'un gage;

11 You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you lend shall bring the pledge outside to you.

tu resteras dehors, et celui à qui tu fais le prêt, t'apportera le gage dehors.

12 If he is a poor man, you shall not sleep with his pledge.

Et si c'est un homme pauvre, tu ne te coucheras pas ayant encore son gage.

13 You shall surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his garment and bless you. It shall be righteousness to you before the LORD your God.

Tu lui rendras le gage au coucher du soleil, afin qu'il ait son manteau pour se coucher, et qu'il te bénisse; et cela te sera compté comme justice devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

14 You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners who are in your land within your gates.

Ne frustre pas le mercenaire pauvre et indigent, d'entre tes frères ou les étrangers qui seront dans ton pays, dans tes Portes.

15 In his day you shall give him his wages, neither shall the sun go down on it, for he is poor and sets his heart on it, lest he cry against you to the LORD, and it be sin to you.

Donne-lui son salaire à son jour, et que le soleil ne se couche pas sans qu'il l'ait; car il est pauvre, et c'est le souhait de son âme, de peur qu'il ne réclame contre toi auprès de l'Éternel, et que tu ne te charges d'un péché.

16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers. Every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

Les pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour les fils, ni les fils pour les pères: chacun sera mis à mort pour son propre péché.

17 You shall not deprive the foreigner or the fatherless of justice, nor take a widow’s clothing in pledge;

Ne fais pas céder le droit de l'étranger, ni de l'orphelin, et ne prends pas en gage la robe de la veuve,

18 but you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you there. Therefore I command you to do this thing.

te souvenant que tu as été esclave en Egypte, et que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'en a racheté; c'est pourquoi je t'enjoins d'accomplir ce précepte.

19 When you reap your harvest in your field, and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go again to get it. It shall be for the foreigner, for the fatherless, and for the widow, that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

Lorsque tu moissonneras tes blés dans ton champ, si tu oublies une gerbe au champ, ne reviens pas la prendre; qu'elle soit pour étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve, afin que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénisse dans tout le travail de tes mains.

20 When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs again. It shall be for the foreigner, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

Lorsque tu secoueras tes oliviers, ne fais pas après toi fouiller dans les rameaux; que ce soit pour l'étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve.

21 When you harvest your vineyard, you shall not glean it after yourselves. It shall be for the foreigner, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

Lorsque tu vendangeras ta vigne, tu ne grappilleras pas derrière toi; que ce soit pour l'étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve:

22 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt. Therefore I command you to do this thing.

souviens-toi que tu as été esclave dans le pays d'Egypte; c'est pourquoi je t'enjoins d'accomplir ce précepte.
