Deuteronomy 14

1 You are the children of the LORD your God. You shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

૧તમે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરનાં સંતાન છો. મૃત્યુ પામેલાંને લીધે તમારે તમારા શરીર પર ઘા ન કરવા, કે ચહેરા પર મૂંડન ન કરવું.

2 For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.

૨કેમ કે તમે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરના પવિત્ર લોકો છો, પૃથ્વીની સપાટી પરના સર્વ લોકોમાંથી તમને યહોવાહે પોતાની ખાસ પ્રજા થવા માટે પસંદ કર્યા છે.

3 You shall not eat any abominable thing.

૩તમારે કોઈ અશુદ્ધ વસ્તુમાંથી ખાવું નહિ.

4 These are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,

૪તમારે આ પ્રાણીઓને ખાવાં એટલે બળદ, ઘેટાં, બકરાં,

5 the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex, the antelope, and the chamois.

૫હરણ, સાબર, કાળિયાર, જંગલી બકરાં, પર્વતીય ઘેટાં.

6 Every animal that parts the hoof, and has the hoof split in two and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat.

૬જે કોઈ પ્રાણીની ખરી ફાટેલી હોય અને ફાટીને તેના બે ભાગ થઈ ગયેલા હોય, વાગોળતો હોય તેવાં પ્રાણીને તમે ખાઈ શકો.

7 Nevertheless these you shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of those who have the hoof split: the camel, the hare, and the rabbit. Because they chew the cud but do not part the hoof, they are unclean to you.

૭પરંતુ, તમારે કેટલાંક પ્રાણીઓ જેવા કે, વાગોળતાં હોય પણ જેઓની ખરી બે ભાગમાં ફાટી ગયેલી હોય આ પ્રાણીઓ ન ખાવાં. એટલે કે ઊંટ, સસલું તથા શાફાન કેમ કે તેઓ વાગોળે છે પણ તેમની ખરી ફાટેલી નથી, તેઓ તમારા માટે અશુદ્ધ છે.

8 The pig, because it has a split hoof but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. You shall not eat their meat. You shall not touch their carcasses.

૮ડુક્કરની ખરી ફાટેલી હોય છે પણ તે વાગોળતું નથી એટલે તે તમારા માટે અશુદ્ધ છે. તેનું માંસ તમારે ખાવું નહિ અને તેમના મૃતદેહને તમારે સ્પર્શ કરવો નહિ.

9 These you may eat of all that are in the waters: you may eat whatever has fins and scales.

૯જળચર પ્રાણીઓમાં તમારે ખાવાં તે આ છે: જેમને ભિંગડાં તથા પર હોય તે ખાવાં;

10 You shall not eat whatever does not have fins and scales. It is unclean to you.

૧૦પરંતુ જેઓને પર કે ભિંગડાં ના હોય તેવા જળચરો તમારે ખાવાં નહિ, તેઓ તમારા માટે અશુદ્ધ છે.

11 Of all clean birds you may eat.

૧૧બધાં જ શુદ્ધ પક્ષીઓ તમે ખાઈ શકો.

12 But these are they of which you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the osprey,

૧૨પણ આ પક્ષીઓમાંથી તમારે ખાવાં નહિ એટલે કે, ગરુડ, ગીધ, કુરર,

13 the red kite, the falcon, the kite of any kind,

૧૩સમડી, બાજ તથા કલીલ તેની જુદી જાત પ્રમાણે.

14 every raven of any kind,

૧૪પ્રત્યેક જાતના કાગડા,

15 the ostrich, the owl, the seagull, the hawk of any kind,

૧૫શાહમૃગ, ચીબરી, સીગલ, તથા દરેક જાતના શકરા,

16 the little owl, the great owl, the horned owl,

૧૬ચીબરી, ઘુવડ, રાજહંસ,

17 the pelican, the vulture, the cormorant,

૧૭જળકૂકડી, ગીધ, કરઢોક;

18 the stork, the heron after its kind, the hoopoe, and the bat.

૧૮દરેક જાતનું બગલું, હંસલો તથા ચામાચીડિયું.

19 All winged creeping things are unclean to you. They shall not be eaten.

૧૯બધાં પાંખવાળાં સર્પટિયાં તમારા માટે અશુદ્ધ છે. તે ન ખાવાય

20 Of all clean birds you may eat.

૨૦પરંતુ તમે બધાં શુદ્ધ પક્ષીઓ ખાઈ શકો.

21 You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself. You may give it to the foreigner living among you who is within your gates, that he may eat it; or you may sell it to a foreigner; for you are a holy people to the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

૨૧પોતાની રીતે મૃત્યુ પામેલા કોઈ પણ પશુનું માંસ તમારે ખાવું નહિ. તમારા નગરમાં રહેતા પરદેશીને ખાવા માટે આપવું હોય તો આપો. ભલે તે લોકો ખાય; અથવા કોઈ પરદેશીને તે વેચે તો ભલે વેચે. કેમ કે તમે તો યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરના પવિત્ર લોક છો. વળી બકરીના બચ્ચાંને માતાના દૂધમાં બાફવું નહિ.

22 You shall surely tithe all the increase of your seed, that which comes out of the field year by year.

૨૨પ્રતિવર્ષ તમારે તમારા ખેતરના બીજની બધી ઊપજમાંથી દશમો ભાગ જુદો રાખવો.

23 You shall eat before the LORD your God, in the place which he chooses to cause his name to dwell, the tithe of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock; that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.

૨૩તેઓ જે જગ્યા પોતાના પવિત્રસ્થાન માટે પસંદ કરે ત્યાં તેઓની આગળ તમારા અનાજનો દશાંશ, તમારા દ્રાક્ષારસનો, તમારા તેલનો તથા તમારાં પશુ તથા ઘેટાં બકરાંના તથા અન્ય જાનવરોના પ્રથમજનિતને તમારે ખાવાં, કે જેથી તમે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરનો આદર કરતાં શીખો.

24 If the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry it because the place which the LORD your God shall choose to set his name there is too far from you, when the LORD your God blesses you,

૨૪જો મુસાફરી એટલી લાંબી હોય કે તે તું લઈ જઈ શકે નહિ, કેમ કે જ્યારે યહોવાહ ઈશ્વર તને આશીર્વાદ આપે, ત્યારે યહોવાહ તારા ઈશ્વર જે જગ્યા તેમના પવિત્રસ્થાન માટે પસંદ કરે તે તારાથી ઘણે દૂર હોય,

25 then you shall turn it into money, bind up the money in your hand, and shall go to the place which the LORD your God shall choose.

૨૫તો તમારે તે વેચીને, નાણાં તમારા હાથમાં લઈને યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વર જે જગ્યા પસંદ કરે ત્યાં જવું.

26 You shall trade the money for whatever your soul desires: for cattle, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever your soul asks of you. You shall eat there before the LORD your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household.

૨૬અને તારું દિલ ચાહે તે ખરીદવા માટે તારે એ પૈસા વડે બળદો, ઘેટાં, દ્રાક્ષારસ અને મધ તમને જે કંઈ પસંદ પડે તે ખરીદવું અને તમારા ઈશ્વર યહોવાહ સમક્ષ તમારે અને તમારા કુટુંબે તે ખાઈને આનંદ કરવો;

27 You shall not forsake the Levite who is within your gates, for he has no portion nor inheritance with you.

૨૭તમારા ઘરના લેવીઓને તમારે કદી ભૂલવા જોઈએ નહિ. કારણ કે, તેઓને તમારી સાથે કોઈ પણ ભાગ કે વારસો મળેલો નથી.

28 At the end of every three years you shall bring all the tithe of your increase in the same year, and shall store it within your gates.

૨૮દર ત્રીજે વર્ષને અંતે તે વર્ષની તમારી ઊપજનો દશમો ભાગ કાઢી લાવીને તમારા ઘરમાં તમારે સંગ્રહ કરવો;

29 The Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, as well as the foreigner living among you, the fatherless, and the widow who are within your gates shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

૨૯તમારા ઘરમાં રહેનાર લેવી કે જેને તમારી સાથે કોઈ ભાગ કે વારસો મળ્યો નથી, તે તથા પરદેશી, અનાથ તથા વિધવા આવે અને ખાઈને તૃપ્ત થાય. એ માટે કે જે કામ તમે કરો છો તેમાં તમારા ઈશ્વર યહોવાહ તમને આશીર્વાદ આપે.
