Daniel 5
1 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.
Vua Bên-xát-sa đặt tiệc lớn đãi một nghìn quan chức trong triều. Vua uống rượu mừng các quan văn võ.
2 Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded that the golden and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem be brought to him, that the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, might drink from them.
Vừa nhấm rượu, vua Bên-xát-sa hứng chí ra lệnh đem ra tất cả chén vàng, chén bạc mà Tiên đế Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa đã đoạt lấy trong Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, để vua quan cùng các hoàng hậu và các cung phi uống rượu.
3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of God’s house which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, drank from them.
Tả hữu vâng lệnh, lấy các chén vàng, chén bạc của Đền Thờ, nơi ngự của Đức Chúa Trời tại Giê-ru-sa-lem rót rượu dâng vua và mời các quan chức, các hoàng hậu, và các cung phi.
4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of bronze, of iron, of wood, and of stone.
Tất cả đều uống rượu, đồng thời ca tụng các thần tượng bằng vàng, bạc, đồng, sắt, gỗ, và đá.
5 In the same hour, the fingers of a man’s hand came out and wrote near the lamp stand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace. The king saw the part of the hand that wrote.
Ngay giờ phút đó, có những ngón tay của một bàn tay người xuất hiện và viết trên bức tường vôi trong cung điện, đối ngang chân đèn. Chính mắt Vua Bên-xát-sa trông thấy bàn tay bí mật đang viết,
6 Then the king’s face was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his thighs were loosened, and his knees struck one against another.
vua quá khiếp sợ, mặt mày xám ngắt, run lẩy bẩy, hai đầu gối đập vào nhau, vua ngã quỵ xuống.
7 The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, “Whoever reads this writing and shows me its interpretation shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.”
Vua thét lớn ra lệnh triệu tập các học giả, thuật sĩ, và nhà chiêm tinh đến. Vừa thấy mặt họ, vua hứa đủ điều: “Nếu ai đọc được hàng chữ này và giải nghĩa cho đúng, sẽ được mặc áo bào đỏ thẫm, được đeo vòng vàng vào cổ và được làm quan cao thứ ba trong nước!”
8 Then all the king’s wise men came in; but they could not read the writing, and could not make known to the king the interpretation.
Nhưng không một học giả, thuật sĩ hay nhà chiêm tinh nào hiểu hàng chữ bí mật ấy có nghĩa gì.
9 Then King Belshazzar was greatly troubled, and his face was changed in him, and his lords were perplexed.
Vì vậy vua vô cùng bối rối, sắc mặt biến đổi không ngừng. Cả triều đình Ba-by-lôn đều ngơ ngác.
10 The queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house. The queen spoke and said, “O king, live forever; do not let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your face be changed.
Bà thái hậu khi nghe được câu chuyện, bước vào phòng tiệc, khuyên vua: “Chúc vua vạn tuế! Xin vua đừng bối rối, sợ hãi nữa.
11 There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him. The king, Nebuchadnezzar, your father—yes, the king, your father—made him master of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and soothsayers,
Trong nước vua có một người được linh của các thần thánh ngự trong lòng. Vào đời tiên đế, ai cũng nhìn nhận y là người có ánh sáng và thông minh, khôn ngoan như thần thánh. Vậy nên chính Tiên đế Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa đã cử y làm thủ lãnh hội đoàn các học giả.
12 because an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting of dreams, showing of dark sentences, and dissolving of doubts were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.”
Người này là Đa-ni-ên, được tiên đế đổi tên là Bên-tơ-sát-xa, là người thông minh, uyên bác, và hiểu biết các vấn đề tâm linh siêu phàm, nên có đủ khả năng giải thích các giấc mộng, và những câu sấm bí hiểm và dẹp tan những mối thắc mắc, hoài nghi. Xin vua cho gọi Đa-ni-ên vào để y giải thích hàng chữ này.”
13 Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Are you that Daniel of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah?
Đa-ni-ên được mời vào cung vua. Nhà vua hỏi: “Ngươi có phải là Đa-ni-ên, một tên tù Do Thái mà tiên đế đã bắt ở xứ Giu-đa điệu về đây không?
14 I have heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you and that light, understanding, and excellent wisdom are found in you.
Ta nghe nói linh của các thần đang ngự trong ngươi, nên ngươi có ánh sáng, thông minh, và khôn ngoan phi thường.
15 Now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known to me its interpretation; but they could not show the interpretation of the thing.
Ta đã gọi các học giả và thuật sĩ vào triều giải nghĩa hàng chữ bí mật này, nhưng không ai giải nghĩa được cả.
16 But I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations and dissolve doubts. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.”
Ta nghe rằng ngươi có tài giải nghĩa huyền nhiệm và làm tan những thắc mắc, hoài nghi. Nếu ngươi đọc được hàng chữ bí mật này, và giải nghĩa cho chính xác, thì ngươi sẽ được mặc áo bào đỏ thẫm, được đeo vòng vàng vào cổ và được làm quan cao thứ ba trong nước.”
17 Then Daniel answered before the king, “Let your gifts be to yourself, and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
Đa-ni-ên thưa: “Xin vua cứ giữ các phẩm vật ấy và phong thưởng chức tước ấy cho người khác. Tuy nhiên, tôi cũng xin đọc và giải thích hàng chữ bí mật để vua nghe.
18 “To you, king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father the kingdom, and greatness, and glory, and majesty.
Muôn tâu, Đức Chúa Trời Chí Cao đã ban cho Tiên đế Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa vương quốc, uy quyền, vinh quang, và danh dự.
19 Because of the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. He killed whom he wanted to, and he kept alive whom he wanted to. He raised up whom he wanted to, and he put down whom he wanted to.
Vì biết Ngài trao uy quyền cho người nên các dân tộc, quốc gia, ngôn ngữ đều run sợ và đầu phục người. Người muốn giết ai, tha ai mặc ý. Người muốn cất nhắc hay giáng chức ai tùy thích.
20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.
Nhưng khi tiên đế sinh lòng kiêu căng, bị mất ngai vàng với cả vinh quang, nghi vệ thiên tử.
21 He was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the animals’, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and that he sets up over it whomever he will.
Tiên đế bị trục xuất ra khỏi xã hội loài người, lòng người biến thành lòng dạ loài thú, và người phải sống chung với lừa rừng. Người ta cho người ăn cỏ như bò và thân thể người ướt đẫm sương móc từ trời, cho đến khi người nhìn biết rằng Đức Chúa Trời Chí Cao tể trị trong thế giới loài người và Ngài muốn trao uy quyền cho ai tùy ý.
22 “You, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this,
Vua là con của người, thưa Vua Bên-xát-sa, dù vua biết rõ các biến cố ấy, khi vua lên kế vị cũng không chịu nhún nhường chút nào.
23 but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. You have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, or hear, or know; and you have not glorified the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways.
Vua lại còn lên mình kiêu ngạo chống lại Chúa Hằng Hữu trên trời và bọn chức dịch dám đem các chén lấy trong Đền Thờ đến bàn tiệc. Vua, các quan chức triều đình, các vợ vua và cung phi dám dùng các chén ấy mà uống rượu, và ca ngợi các thần bằng bạc, vàng, đồng, sắt, gỗ, và đá là các thần không thấy, không nghe, không biết gì. Vua không chịu tôn vinh Đức Chúa Trời là Đấng cầm trong tay Ngài hơi thở và các đường lối vua!
24 Then the part of the hand was sent from before him, and this writing was inscribed.
Ngay lúc ấy, Đức Chúa Trời đã cho một bàn tay xuất hiện để viết hàng chữ này:
25 “This is the writing that was inscribed: ‘MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.’
MÊ-NÊ, MÊ-NÊ, TÊ-KEN, PHÁC-SIN.
26 “This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE: God has counted your kingdom, and brought it to an end.
Và đây là ý nghĩa: MÊ-NÊ nghĩa là ‘đếm’—Đức Chúa Trời đã đếm các ngày vua trị vì và chấm dứt các ngày đó.
27 TEKEL: you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting.
TÊ-KEN nghĩa là ‘cân’—vua đã bị đem cân và thấy là thiếu.
28 PERES: your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.”
PHÁC-SIN nghĩa là ‘bị chia đôi’—nước vua sẽ bị chia đôi, giao cho người Mê-đi và người Ba Tư.”
29 Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with purple, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.
Theo lệnh vua Bên-xát-sa, người ta mặc cho Đa-ni-ên chiếc áo bào đỏ thẫm, đeo vào cổ vòng vàng và công bố rằng: Đa-ni-ên được cử làm tể tướng.
30 In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain.
Ngay đêm ấy, Bên-xát-sa, vua nước Canh-đê bị giết.
31 Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.
Đa-ri-út, người Mê-đi, chiếm lãnh đế quốc lúc người sáu mươi hai tuổi.
