Amos 4

1 Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands, “Bring us drinks!”

Écoutez cette parole génisses de Basan qui êtes sur la montagne de Samarie, qui opprimez les petits, froissez les indigents, dites à votre seigneur: Donne, afin que nous puissions boire!

2 The Lord GOD has sworn by his holiness, “Behold, the days shall come on you that they will take you away with hooks, and the last of you with fish hooks.

Le Seigneur, l'Éternel, le jure par sa sainteté: Voici, il vient pour vous un temps où l'on vous enlèvera avec l'hameçon, et votre postérité avec le harpon du pêcheur,

et par les brèches vous sortirez, chacune en avant, pour aller vous jeter dans les montagnes, dit l'Éternel.

Allez à Béthel! et commettez le crime à Guilgal, nombre de crimes, et tous les matins offrez vos victimes, tous les trois jours vos dîmes!

5 offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of that which is leavened, and proclaim free will offerings and brag about them; for this pleases you, you children of Israel,” says the Lord GOD.

Encensez avec du levain en actions de grâces, et proclamez, publiez des offrandes volontaires! car ainsi vous aimez à faire, enfants d'Israël, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.

6 “I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in every town; yet you have not returned to me,” says the LORD.

Je vous envoyai aussi la famine dans toutes vos villes, et la disette de pain dans tous vos lieux, mais vous ne revîntes pas à moi, dit l'Éternel.

7 “I also have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One field was rained on, and the field where it did not rain withered.

Je vous refusai aussi la pluie durant trois mois jusqu'à la moisson; et je fis tomber la pluie sur une ville, mais sur l'autre je ne la fis point tomber; un champ fut arrosé, mais le champ où il ne plut pas devint aride;

8 So two or three cities staggered to one city to drink water, and were not satisfied; yet you have not returned to me,” says the LORD.

et deux, trois villes se portèrent sur une ville pour y trouver de l'eau à boire, et ne se désaltérèrent point; mais vous ne revîntes point à moi, dit l'Éternel.

9 “I struck you with blight and mildew many times in your gardens and your vineyards, and the swarming locusts have devoured your fig trees and your olive trees; yet you have not returned to me,” says the LORD.

Je frappai vos blés du charbon et de la carie; vos nombreux jardins et vos vignes et vos figuiers et vos oliviers furent dévorés par les sauterelles; mais vous ne revîntes point à moi, dit l'Éternel.

10 “I sent plagues among you like I did Egypt. I have slain your young men with the sword, and have carried away your horses. I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camp, yet you have not returned to me,” says the LORD.

J'envoyai parmi vous une peste, telle que celle d'Egypte, je tuai par l'épée vos jeunes gens, laissant emmener vos chevaux; et je fis monter l'infection de vos camps et jusque dans vos narines; mais vous ne revîntes point à moi, dit l'Éternel.

11 “I have overthrown some of you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a burning stick plucked out of the fire; yet you have not returned to me,” says the LORD.

Je fis parmi vous un bouleversement tel que celui que Dieu fit de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, et vous fûtes comme un tison sauvé de l'incendie; mais vous ne revîntes point à moi, dit l'Éternel.

12 “Therefore I will do this to you, Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, Israel.

Aussi te ferai-je ces choses, Israël! Or, puisque je veux te faire ces choses, apprête-toi à venir au-devant de ton Dieu, Israël!

13 For, behold, he who forms the mountains, creates the wind, declares to man what is his thought, who makes the morning darkness, and treads on the high places of the earth: The LORD, the God of Armies, is his name.”

Car voici, Il forma les montagnes, et Il crée le vent, Il révèle à l'homme ses propres pensées, Il change l'aurore en ténèbres et marche sur les hauteurs de la terre; l'Éternel, Dieu des armées, tel est son nom.
