2 Samuel 11

1 At the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.

Und da das Jahr um kam, zur Zeit wenn die Könige pflegen auszuziehen, sandte David Joab und seine Knechte mit ihm und das ganze Israel, daß sie die Kinder Ammon verderbeten und belegten Rabba, David aber blieb zu Jerusalem.

2 At evening, David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. From the roof, he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to look at.

Und es begab sich, daß David um den Abend aufstund von seinem Lager und ging auf dem Dach des Königshauses und sah vom Dach ein Weib sich waschen; und das Weib war sehr schöner Gestalt.

3 David sent and inquired after the woman. One said, “Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, Uriah the Hittite’s wife?”

Und David sandte hin und ließ nach dem Weibe fragen und sagen: Ist das nicht Bathseba, die Tochter Eliams, das Weib Urias, des Hethiters?

4 David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her (for she was purified from her uncleanness); and she returned to her house.

Und David sandte Boten hin und ließ sie holen. Und da sie zu ihm hineinkam, schlief er bei ihr. Sie aber reinigte sich von ihrer Unreinigkeit und kehrete wieder zu ihrem Hause.

5 The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”

Und das Weib ward schwanger und sandte hin und ließ David verkündigen und sagen: Ich bin schwanger worden.

6 David sent to Joab, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” Joab sent Uriah to David.

David aber sandte zu Joab: Sende zu mir Uria, den Hethiter. Und Joab sandte Uria zu David.

7 When Uriah had come to him, David asked him how Joab did, and how the people fared, and how the war prospered.

Und da Uria zu ihm kam, fragte David, ob es mit Joab und mit dem Volk und mit dem Streit wohl zustünde.

8 David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and a gift from the king was sent after him.

Und David sprach zu Uria: Gehe hinab in dein Haus und wasche deine Füße. Und da Uria zu des Königs Haus hinausging, folgte ihm nach des Königs Geschenk.

9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and did not go down to his house.

Und Uria legte sich schlafen vor der Tür des Königshauses, da alle Knechte seines HERRN lagen, und ging nicht hinab in sein Haus.

10 When they had told David, saying, “Uriah did not go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Have not you come from a journey? Why did not you go down to your house?”

Da man aber David ansagte: Uria ist nicht hinab in sein Haus gegangen, sprach David zu ihm: Bist du nicht über Feld herkommen? Warum bist du nicht hinab in dein Haus gegangen?

11 Uriah said to David, “The ark, Israel, and Judah, are staying in tents; and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing!”

Uria aber sprach zu David: Die Lade und Israel und Juda bleiben in Zelten, und Joab, mein HERR, und meines HERRN Knechte liegen zu Felde; und ich sollte in mein Haus gehen, daß ich äße und tränke und bei meinem Weibe läge? So wahr du lebest und deine Seele lebet, ich tue solches nicht.

12 David said to Uriah, “Stay here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next day.

David sprach zu Uria: So bleib heute auch hie, morgen will ich dich lassen gehen. So blieb Uria zu Jerusalem des Tages und des andern dazu.

13 When David had called him, he ate and drank before him; and he made him drunk. At evening, he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but did not go down to his house.

Und David lud ihn, daß er vor ihm aß und trank; und machte ihn trunken. Und des Abends ging er aus, daß er sich schlafen legte auf sein Lager mit seines HERRN Knechten; und ging nicht hinab in sein Haus.

14 In the morning, David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

Des Morgens schrieb David einen Brief zu Joab und sandte ihn durch Uria.

15 He wrote in the letter, saying, “Send Uriah to the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck and die.”

Er schrieb aber also in den Brief: Stellet Uria an den Streit, da er am härtesten ist, und wendet euch hinter ihm ab, daß er erschlagen werde und sterbe.

16 When Joab kept watch on the city, he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew that valiant men were.

Als nun Joab um die Stadt lag, stellete er Uria an den Ort, da er wußte, daß streitbare Männer waren.

17 The men of the city went out and fought with Joab. Some of the people fell, even of David’s servants; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

Und da die Männer der Stadt herausfielen und stritten wider Joab, fielen etliche des Volks von den Knechten Davids, und Uria, der Hethiter, starb auch.

18 Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

Da sandte Joab hin und ließ David ansagen allen Handel des Streits.

19 and he commanded the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling all the things concerning the war to the king,

Und gebot dem Boten und sprach: Wenn du allen Handel des Streits hast ausgeredet mit dem Könige

20 it shall be that, if the king’s wrath arise, and he asks you, ‘Why did you go so near to the city to fight? Did not you know that they would shoot from the wall?

und siehest, daß der König erzürnet und zu dir spricht: Warum habt ihr euch so nahe zur Stadt gemacht mit dem Streit? Wisset ihr nicht, wie man pflegt von der Mauer zu schießen?

21 Who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Did not a woman cast an upper millstone on him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? Why did you go so near the wall?’ then you shall say, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.’”

Wer schlug Abimelech, den Sohn Jerubbeseths? Warf nicht ein Weib ein Stück von einer Mühle auf ihn von der Mauer, daß er starb zu Thebez? Warum habt ihr euch so nahe zur Mauer gemacht? so sollst du sagen: Dein Knecht Uria, der Hethiter, ist auch tot.

22 So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.

Der Bote ging hin und kam und sagte an David alles, darum ihn Joab gesandt hatte.

23 The messenger said to David, “The men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field; and we were on them even to the entrance of the gate.

Und der Bote sprach zu David: Die Männer nahmen überhand wider uns und fielen zu uns heraus aufs Feld wir aber waren an ihnen bis vor die Tür des Tors.

24 The shooters shot at your servants from off the wall; and some of the king’s servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.”

Und die Schützen schossen von der Mauer auf deine Knechte und töteten etliche von des Königs Knechten; dazu ist Uria, dein Knecht, der Hethiter, auch tot.

25 Then David said to the messenger, “Tell Joab, ‘Do not let this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it.’ Encourage him.”

David sprach zum Boten: So sollst du zu Joab sagen: Laß dir das nicht übel gefallen; denn das Schwert frißt jetzt diesen, jetzt jenen. Haltet an mit dem Streit wider die Stadt, daß du sie zerbrechest, und seid getrost!

26 When Uriah’s wife heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.

Und da Urias Weib hörete, daß ihr Mann Uria tot war, trug sie Leid um ihren Hauswirt.

27 When the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

Da sie aber ausgetrauert hatte, sandte David hin und ließ sie in sein Haus holen; und sie ward sein Weib und gebar ihm einen Sohn. Aber die Tat gefiel dem HERRN übel, die David tat.
