2 Kings 8
1 Now Elisha had spoken to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Arise, and go, you and your household, and stay for a while wherever you can; for the LORD has called for a famine. It will also come on the land for seven years.”
Et Elisée parla en ces termes à la femme dont il avait rendu le fils à la vie: Lève-toi et pars, toi et ta maison, et émigre quelque part, car l'Éternel fait venir la famine, et qui plus est, elle envahira le pays durant sept ans.
2 The woman arose, and did according to the man of God’s word. She went with her household, and lived in the land of the Philistines for seven years.
Et la femme se leva et se conforma à l'avis de l'homme de Dieu, et elle partit, elle et sa maison, et fut en émigration dans le pays des Philistins durant sept années.
3 At the end of seven years, the woman returned from the land of the Philistines. Then she went out to beg the king for her house and for her land.
Et au bout des sept années la femme revint du pays des Philistins; et elle sortit dans le but de réclamer auprès du roi pour sa maison et son champ.
4 Now the king was talking with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, “Please tell me all the great things that Elisha has done.”
Et le roi s'entretenait avec Gehazi, le valet de l'homme de Dieu, et disait: Raconte-moi donc toutes les grandes choses qu'a faites Elisée.
5 As he was telling the king how he had restored to life him who was dead, behold, the woman whose son he had restored to life begged the king for her house and for her land. Gehazi said, “My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.”
Et en effet, Gehazi racontait au roi qu'il avait rendu la vie au mort, lorsque la femme au fils de laquelle il avait rendu la vie, fit au roi sa réclamation pour sa maison et son champ; et Gehazi dit au roi: O Roi, mon Seigneur, c'est la femme même et c'est à son fils qu'Elisée a rendu la vie.
6 When the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed to her a certain officer, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.”
Et le roi interrogea la femme et elle lui fit le récit, et le roi lui donna (pour l'accompagner) un eunuque auquel il dit: Restitue tout ce qui lui appartient, y compris le revenu du champ à partir du jour où elle a quitté le pays, jusqu'à maintenant.
7 Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick. He was told, “The man of God has come here.”
Et Elisée vint à Damas, et Ben-Hadad, roi de Syrie, était malade; et il fut averti en ces termes: L'homme de Dieu est arrivé ici.
8 The king said to Hazael, “Take a present in your hand, and go meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD by him, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’”
Alors le roi dit à Hazaël: Prends dans ta main une offrande et va au-devant de l'homme de Dieu, et adresse par lui cette question à l'Éternel: Relèverai-je de cette maladie?
9 So Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels’ burden, and came and stood before him and said, “Your son Benhadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’”
Et Hazaël alla au-devant de lui, et prit dans sa main une offrande, tous les plus excellents produits de Damas, la charge de quarante chameaux, et il vint se présenter à lui et dit: Ton fils Ben-Hadad, roi de Syrie, m'envoie vers toi avec ce message: Relèverai-je de cette maladie?
10 Elisha said to him, “Go, tell him, ‘You will surely recover;’ however the LORD has shown me that he will surely die.”
Et Elisée lui dit: Va! dis-lui: Certainement tu en relèveras! Mais l'Éternel m'a découvert qu'il mourra.
11 He settled his gaze steadfastly on him, until he was ashamed. Then the man of God wept.
Et l'homme de Dieu fixa sur lui son regard qu'il soutint jusqu'au point de le confondre, et l'homme de Dieu pleura.
12 Hazael said, “Why do you weep, my lord?” He answered, “Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel. You will set their strongholds on fire, and you will kill their young men with the sword, and will dash their little ones in pieces, and rip up their pregnant women.”
Alors Hazaël dit: Pourquoi pleure mon Seigneur? Et il répondit: Parce que je sais le mal que tu feras aux enfants d'Israël: tu incendieras leurs forteresses, et égorgeras leur jeunesse avec l'épée, et écraseras leurs enfants et éventreras leurs femmes enceintes.
13 Hazael said, “But what is your servant, who is but a dog, that he could do this great thing?” Elisha answered, “The LORD has shown me that you will be king over Syria.”
Et Hazaël dit: Mais! qu'est donc ton chien de serviteur pour exécuter de si grandes choses? Et Elisée dit: L'Éternel m'a fait voir en toi un roi de Syrie.
14 Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?” He answered, “He told me that you would surely recover.”
Et il quitta Elisée pour revenir chez son Maître qui lui dit: Que t'a dit Elisée? Et il répondit: il m'a dit: Certainement tu en relèveras.
15 On the next day, he took a thick cloth, dipped it in water, and spread it on the king’s face, so that he died. Then Hazael reigned in his place.
Et le lendemain il prit la couverture qu'il plongea dans l'eau, et il l'étendit sur le visage du roi qui mourut; et Hazaël régna en sa place.
16 In the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being king of Judah then, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
Cependant la cinquième année de Joram, fils du roi d'Israël, Achab, Joram, fils de Josaphat, devint roi de Juda.
17 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign. He reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
Il avait trente-deux ans à son avènement, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem.
18 He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did Ahab’s house, for he married Ahab’s daughter. He did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight.
Et il marcha sur les errements des rois d'Israël comme avait fait la maison d'Achab; car il avait épousé une fille d'Achab, et il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel.
19 However, the LORD would not destroy Judah, for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give to him a lamp for his children always.
Mais l'Éternel ne voulut pas ruiner Juda, et cela pour l'amour de David, son serviteur, selon la promesse qu'il lui avait faite de lui laisser un flambeau pour ses fils dans tous les temps.
20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
De son temps les Edomites se rendirent indépendants de Juda; et ils se donnèrent un roi.
21 Then Joram crossed over to Zair, and all his chariots with him; and he rose up by night and struck the Edomites who surrounded him with the captains of the chariots; and the people fled to their tents.
Joram alors se porta sur Tsaïra avec tous ses chars: et il se leva la nuit et battit les Iduméens qui l'enveloppaient, et les chefs des chars; et la troupe s'enfuit dans ses tentes.
22 So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
C'est ainsi que Edom est détaché de la domination de Juda jusqu'à ce jour. Alors à la même époque eut lieu la défection de Libna.
23 The rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are not they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
Le reste des actes de Joram et toutes ses entreprises sont d'ailleurs consignés dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda.
24 Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in David’s city; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his place.
Et Joram reposa à côté de ses pères, et reçut la sépulture avec ses pères dans la ville de David, et Achazia, son fils, devint roi en sa place.
25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign.
La douzième année de Joram, fils du roi d'Israël, Achab, Achazia, fils de Joram, devint roi de Juda.
26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
Achazia avait vingt-deux ans à son avènement et il régna un an à Jérusalem. Or le nom de sa mère était Athalie, fille d'Omri, roi d'Israël.
27 He walked in the way of Ahab’s house and did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, as did Ahab’s house, for he was the son-in-law of Ahab’s house.
Et il marcha sur les errements de la maison d'Achab et fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, comme la maison d'Achab; car il s'était allié à la maison d'Achab.
28 He went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead, and the Syrians wounded Joram.
Et il marcha avec Joram, fils d'Achab, dans la guerre contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie, pour Ramoth en Galaad. Et les Syriens blessèrent Joram.
29 King Joram returned to be healed in Jezreel from the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
Alors le roi Joram rebroussa pour se rétablir à Jizréel des blessures qu'il avait reçues des Syriens à Rama, lorsqu'il se battait contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie. Et Achazia, fils de Joram, roi de Juda, descendit pour visiter Joram, fils d'Achab, à Jizréel, car il était malade.
