1 Thessalonians 4

1 Finally then, brothers, we beg and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, that you abound more and more.

Por lo demás, hermanos, os rogamos y exhortamos en el Señor Jesús, que según aprendisteis de nosotros el modo en que habéis de andar y agradar a Dios —como andáis ya— así abundéis en ello más y más.

2 For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

Pues sabéis que preceptos os hemos dado en nombre del Señor Jesús.

3 For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality,

Porque esta es la voluntad de Dios: vuestra santificación; que os abstengáis de la fornicación;

4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor,

que cada uno de vosotros sepa poseer su propia mujer en santificación y honra,

5 not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who do not know God,

no con pasión de concupiscencia, como los gentiles que no conocen a Dios;

6 that no one should take advantage of and wrong a brother or sister in this matter; because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified.

que nadie engañe ni explote a su hermano en los negocios, porque el Señor es vengador de todas estas cosas, como también os dijimos antes y atestiguamos;

7 For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification.

porque no nos ha llamado Dios a vivir para impureza, sino en santidad.

8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given his Holy Spirit to you.

Así pues el que esto rechaza, no rechaza a un hombre, sino a Dios, que también os da su santo Espíritu.

9 But concerning brotherly love, you have no need that one write to you. For you yourselves are taught by God to love one another,

En cuanto al amor fraternal, no tenéis necesidad de que os escriba, puesto que vosotros mismos habéis sido enseñados por Dios a amaros mutuamente.

10 for indeed you do it toward all the brothers who are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brothers, that you abound more and more;

Pues en realidad eso practicáis para con todos los hermanos que viven en toda la Macedonia. Os rogamos, hermanos, que lo hagáis más y más,

11 and that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, even as we instructed you,

y que ambicionéis la tranquilidad, ocupándoos de lo vuestro y trabajando con vuestras manos, según os lo hemos recomendado,

12 that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and may have need of nothing.

a fin de que os comportéis decorosamente ante los de afuera, y no tengáis necesidad de nadie.

13 But we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you do not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

No queremos, hermanos, que estéis en ignorancia acerca de los que duermen, para que no os contristéis como los demás, que no tienen esperanza.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.

Porque si creemos que Jesús murió y resucitó, así también ( creemos que ) Dios llevará con Jesús a los que durmieron en Él.

15 For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep.

Pues esto os decimos con palabras del Señor: que nosotros, los vivientes que quedemos hasta la Parusía del Señor, no nos adelantaremos a los que durmieron.

16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with God’s trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first,

Porque el mismo Señor, dada la señal, descenderá del cielo, a la voz del arcángel y al son de la trompeta de Dios, y los muertos en Cristo resucitaran primero.

17 then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever.

Después, nosotros los vivientes que quedemos, seremos arrebatados juntamente con ellos en nubes hacia el aire al encuentro del Señor; y así estaremos siempre con el Señor.

18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Consolaos, pues, mutuamente con estas palabras.
