1 Samuel 3

1 The child Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. The LORD’s word was rare in those days. There were not many visions, then.

Or le jeune Samuel faisait son service devant l'Éternel sous les yeux d'Eli. Et la parole de l'Éternel était rare en ce temps-là; les visions n'étaient pas fréquentes.

2 At that time, when Eli was laid down in his place (now his eyes had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see),

Et comme dans ce temps Eli était alité en son lieu, (or ses yeux commençaient à être ternes, il ne pouvait voir),

3 and God’s lamp had not yet gone out, and Samuel had laid down in the LORD’s temple where God’s ark was,

la lampe de Dieu n'était pas encore éteinte, et Samuel était couché dans le Temple de l'Éternel, place de l'Arche de Dieu;

4 The LORD called Samuel. He said, “Here I am.”

alors l'Éternel appela Samuel. Et il répondit: Me voici!

5 He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” He said, “I did not call. Lie down again.” He went and lay down.

Puis il courut vers Eli et dit: Me voici! car tu m'as appelé. Et Eli dit: Je ne t'ai pas appelé; retourne et te couche. Et il alla et se coucha.

6 The LORD called yet again, “Samuel!” Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” He answered, “I did not call, my son. Lie down again.”

Et derechef l'Éternel appela encore Samuel. Et Samuel se leva et alla vers Eli et dit: Me voici! car tu m'as appelé. Et Eli dit: Je ne t'ai point appelé, mon fils; retourne et te couche.

7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the LORD’s word yet revealed to him.

Or Samuel ne connaissait pas encore l'Éternel, et la parole de l'Éternel ne lui avait pas encore été révélée.

8 The LORD called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

Et de nouveau l'Éternel appela Samuel pour la troisième fois. Et Samuel se leva et alla vers Eli et dit: Me voici! car tu m'as appelé. Alors Eli comprit que l'Éternel appelait l'enfant,

9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down. It shall be, if he calls you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, LORD; for your servant hears.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

et Eli dit à Samuel: Va et te couche, et si l'on t'appelle, tu diras: Parle, Éternel, car ton serviteur écoute. Et Samuel alla et se coucha en son lieu.

10 The LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak; for your servant hears.”

Alors l'Éternel vint et se présenta et appela cette fois comme les autres fois: Samuel! Samuel! Et Samuel dit: Parle, car ton serviteur écoute.

11 The LORD said to Samuel, “Behold, I will do a thing in Israel at which both the ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.

Et l'Éternel dit à Samuel: Voici, je vais opérer en Israël une chose telle, que à quiconque l'apprendra, les deux oreilles lui retentiront.

12 In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from the beginning even to the end.

En ce jour-là j'accomplirai sur Eli tout ce que j'ai prononcé; je commencerai et j'achèverai.

13 For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves, and he did not restrain them.

Car je lui ai annoncé que je condamne sa maison à perpétuité parcequ'il a été criminel en ce que sachant que ses fils attiraient sur Dieu le mépris, il ne les a pas contenus.

14 Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be removed with sacrifice or offering forever.”

Dès-là je fais à la maison d'Eli ce serment: Le crime de la maison d'Eli ne sera expié ni par victime, ni par offrande en aucun temps.

15 Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the LORD’s house. Samuel was afraid to show Eli the vision.

Et Samuel fut couché jusqu'au matin; alors il ouvrit les portes de la maison de l'Éternel. Mais Samuel craignait de raconter la vision à Eli.

16 Then Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son!” He said, “Here I am.”

Cependant Eli appela Samuel et dit: Samuel, mon fils! Et il répondit: Me voici!

17 He said, “What is the thing that he has spoken to you? Please do not hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the things that he spoke to you.”

Et Eli dit: Quelle est la parole qu'Il t'a adressée? Ne me cèle rien! Que Dieu te le rende et plus encore, si tu me caches rien de tout ce qu'Il t'a dit!

18 Samuel told him every bit, and hid nothing from him. He said, “It is the LORD. Let him do what seems good to him.”

Alors Samuel lui rapporta tous les détails, sans lui rien celer. Et Eli dit: C'est l'Éternel! qu'il fasse ce qui lui semblera bon!

19 Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.

Et Samuel grandissait et l'Éternel était avec lui, et ne laissait tomber à terre aucune de ses paroles.

20 All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.

Et de Dan à Béerséba tout Israël reconnut que Samuel était accrédité comme prophète.

21 The LORD appeared again in Shiloh; for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the LORD’s word.

Et l'Éternel continua d'apparaître à Silo par la parole de l'Éternel; car l'Éternel se révélait à Samuel à Silo par la parole de l'Éternel. Et la parole de Samuel s'étendait à tout Israël.
