1 Samuel 22

1 David therefore departed from there and escaped to Adullam’s cave. When his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him.

こうしてダビデはその所を去り、アドラムのほら穴へのがれた。彼の兄弟たちと父の家の者は皆、これを聞き、その所に下って彼のもとにきた。

2 Everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered themselves to him; and he became captain over them. There were with him about four hundred men.

また、しえたげられている人々、負債のある人々、心に不満のある人々も皆、彼のもとに集まってきて、彼はその長となった。おおよそ四百人の人々が彼と共にあった。

3 David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother come out to you, until I know what God will do for me.”

ダビデはそこからモアブのミヅパへ行き、モアブの王に言った、「神がわたしのためにどんなことをされるかわかるまで、どうぞわたしの父母をあなたの所におらせてください」。

4 He brought them before the king of Moab; and they lived with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.

そして彼はモアブの王に彼らを託したので、彼らはダビデが要害におる間、王の所におった。

5 The prophet Gad said to David, “Do not stay in the stronghold. Depart, and go into the land of Judah.” Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hereth.

さて、預言者ガドはダビデに言った、「要害にとどまっていないで、去ってユダの地へ行きなさい」。そこでダビデは去って、ハレテの森へ行った。

6 Saul heard that David was discovered, with the men who were with him. Now Saul was sitting in Gibeah, under the tamarisk tree in Ramah, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing around him.

サウルは、ダビデおよび彼と共にいる人々が見つかったということを聞いた。サウルはギベアで、やりを手にもって、丘のぎょりゅうの木の下にすわっており、家来たちはみなそのまわりに立っていた。

7 Saul said to his servants who stood around him, “Hear now, you Benjamites! Will the son of Jesse give everyone of you fields and vineyards? Will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds?

サウルはまわりに立っている家来たちに言った、「あなたがたベニヤミンびとは聞きなさい。エッサイの子もまた、あなたがたおのおのに畑やぶどう畑を与え、おのおのを千人の長、百人の長にするであろうか。

8 Is that why all of you have conspired against me, and there is no one who discloses to me when my son makes a treaty with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you who is sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as it is today?”

あなたがたは皆共にはかってわたしに敵した。わたしの子がエッサイの子と契約を結んでも、それをわたしに告げるものはなく、またあなたがたのうち、ひとりもわたしのために憂えず、きょうのように、わたしの子がわたしのしもべをそそのかしてわたしに逆らわせ、道で彼がわたしを待ち伏せするようになっても、わたしに告げる者はない」。

9 Then Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, answered and said, “I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

その時エドムびとドエグは、サウルの家来たちのそばに立っていたが、答えて言った、「わたしはエッサイの子がノブにいるアヒトブの子アヒメレクの所にきたのを見ました。

10 He inquired of the LORD for him, gave him food, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”

アヒメレクは彼のために主に問い、また彼に食物を与え、ペリシテびとゴリアテのつるぎを与えました」。

11 Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests who were in Nob; and they all came to the king.

そこで王は人をつかわして、アヒトブの子祭司アヒメレクとその父の家のすべての者、すなわちノブの祭司たちを召したので、みな王の所にきた。

12 Saul said, “Hear now, you son of Ahitub.” He answered, “Here I am, my lord.”

サウルは言った、「アヒトブの子よ、聞きなさい」。彼は答えた、「わが主よ、わたしはここにおります」。

13 Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread, and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as it is today?”

サウルは彼に言った、「どうしてあなたはエッサイの子と共にはかってわたしに敵し、彼にパンとつるぎを与え、彼のために神に問い、きょうのように彼をわたしに逆らって立たせ、道で待ち伏せさせるのか」。

14 Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, “Who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, captain of your body guard, and honored in your house?

アヒメレクは王に答えて言った、「あなたの家来のうち、ダビデのように忠義な者がほかにありますか。彼は王の娘婿であり、近衛兵の長であって、あなたの家で尊ばれる人ではありませんか。

15 Have I today begun to inquire of God for him? Be it far from me! Do not let the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for your servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.”

彼のために神に問うたのは、きょう初めてでしょうか。いいえ、決してそうではありません。王よ、どうぞ、しもべと父の全家に罪を負わせないでください。しもべは、これについては、事の大小を問わず、何をも知らなかったのです」。

16 The king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house.”

王は言った、「アヒメレクよ、あなたは必ず殺されなければならない。あなたの父の全家も同じである」。

17 The king said to the guard who stood about him, “Turn and kill the priests of the LORD, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king would not put out their hand to fall on the priests of the LORD.

そして王はまわりに立っている近衛の兵に言った、「身をひるがえして、主の祭司たちを殺しなさい。彼らもダビデと協力していて、ダビデの逃げたのを知りながら、それをわたしに告げなかったからです」。ところが王の家来たちは主の祭司たちを殺すために手を下そうとはしなかった。

18 The king said to Doeg, “Turn and attack the priests!” Doeg the Edomite turned, and he attacked the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five people who wore a linen ephod.

そこで王はドエグに言った、「あなたが身をひるがえして、祭司たちを殺しなさい」。エドムびとドエグは身をひるがえして祭司たちを撃ち、その日亜麻布のエポデを身につけている者八十五人を殺した。

19 He struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword—both men and women, children and nursing babies, and cattle, donkeys, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

彼はまた、つるぎをもって祭司の町ノブを撃ち、つるぎをもって男、女、幼な子、乳飲み子、牛、ろば、羊を殺した。

20 One of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.

しかしアヒトブの子アヒメレクの子たちのひとりで、名をアビヤタルという人は、のがれてダビデの所に走った。

21 Abiathar told David that Saul had slain the LORD’s priests.

そしてアビヤタルは、サウルが主の祭司たちを殺したことをダビデに告げたので、

22 David said to Abiathar, “I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I am responsible for the death of all the persons of your father’s house.

ダビデはアビヤタルに言った、「あの日、エドムびとドエグがあそこにいたので、わたしは彼がきっとサウルに告げるであろうと思った。わたしがあなたの父の家の人々の命を失わせるもととなったのです。

23 Stay with me. Do not be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life. You will be safe with me.”

あなたはわたしの所にとどまってください。恐れることはありません。あなたの命を求める者は、わたしの命をも求めているのです。わたしの所におられるならば、あなたは安全でしょう」。
