1 Samuel 21

1 Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the priest. Ahimelech came to meet David trembling, and said to him, “Why are you alone, and no man with you?”

Entonces David fue a Nob, a Ahimelec el sacerdote. Ahimelec salió tembloroso a recibir a David y le dijo: ¿Por qué estás solo, y nadie está contigo?

2 David said to Ahimelech the priest, “The king has commanded me to do something, and has said to me, ‘Let no one know anything about the business about which I send you, and what I have commanded you. I have sent the young men to a certain place.’

David respondió al sacerdote Ahimelec: El rey me encomendó un asunto y me dijo: Nadie sepa del asunto al cual te envío y que te ordené. Y yo convine reunirme con los jóvenes en cierto lugar.

3 Now therefore what is under your hand? Please give me five loaves of bread in my hand, or whatever is available.”

Ahora pues, ¿qué tienes a mano? Dame cinco panes o lo que tengas.

4 The priest answered David, and said, “I have no common bread, but there is holy bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women.”

El sacerdote respondió: No hay pan común a mano, pero hay pan consagrado, solo si los jóvenes se abstuvieron de mujeres.

5 David answered the priest, and said to him, “Truly, women have been kept from us as usual these three days. When I came out, the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was only a common journey. How much more then today shall their vessels be holy?”

David respondió al sacerdote: En verdad las mujeres estuvieron lejos de nosotros estos tres días. Cuando salí, los cuerpos de los jóvenes se santificaron, aunque no era más que un viaje común. ¡Cuánto más hoy cuando habrá pan santo en sus cuerpos!

6 So the priest gave him holy bread; for there was no bread there but the show bread that was taken from before the LORD, to be replaced with hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

Entonces el sacerdote le entregó lo consagrado, pues allí no había otro pan sino el Pan de la Presencia, que acababa de retirar de la Presencia de Yavé para sustituirlo por el pan caliente, como era costumbre.

7 Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the best of the herdsmen who belonged to Saul.

Pero ese día uno de los esclavos de Saúl llamado Doeg edomita, jefe de los pastores de Saúl, se detuvo allí delante de Yavé.

8 David said to Ahimelech, “Is not there here under your hand spear or sword? For I have not brought my sword or my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.”

David dijo a Ahimelec: ¿No tienes aquí a mano una lanza o una espada? Porque no tomé mi espada ni mis armas en mi mano, porque la orden del rey era apremiante.

9 The priest said, “Behold, the sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah, is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you would like to take that, take it, for there is no other except that here.” David said, “There is none like that. Give it to me.”

Y el sacerdote dijo: La espada de Goliat el filisteo, a quien mataste en el valle de Ela, está aquí envuelta en un paño detrás del efod. Si quieres tomarla, tómala, porque no hay otra sino ésa. Y David dijo: Ninguna como ésa. ¡Dámela!

10 David arose and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

David se levantó y huyó ese día de la presencia de Saúl, y llegó adonde Aquís, rey de Gat.

11 The servants of Achish said to him, “Is not this David the king of the land? Did not they sing to one another about him in dances, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?”

Y los esclavos de Aquís le dijeron: ¿No es éste David, el rey de esta tierra? ¿No es éste de quien cantaban en las danzas: Saúl mató a sus miles, Y David, a sus diez miles?

12 David laid up these words in his heart, and was very afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

David guardó esas palabras en su corazón y tuvo gran temor de Aquís, rey de Gat.

13 He changed his behavior before them and pretended to be insane in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down on his beard.

Así que se fingió demente ante ellos, y actuaba como loco en manos de ellos. Garabateaba en las hojas de la puerta y dejaba caer saliva por su barba.

14 Then Achish said to his servants, “Look, you see the man is insane. Why then have you brought him to me?

Y Aquís dijo a sus esclavos: Aquí ven a un hombre que se porta como loco. ¿Por qué me lo traen?

15 Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Should this fellow come into my house?”

¿Me faltan locos para que me traigan a éste a fin de que actúe como loco delante de mí? ¿Debe entrar éste en mi casa?
