1 Corinthians 2

1 When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God.

Et moi, frères, quand je vins à vous, je ne vins pas vous annoncer le témoignage de Dieu avec le prestige de l'éloquence ou de la philosophie.

2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

Parmi vous, je n'ai jugé savoir qu'une seule chose: Jésus-Christ et Jésus-Christ crucifié.

3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.

Aussi ai-je passé tout ce temps dans la faiblesse, la crainte, la plus grande humilité.

4 My speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

Mes discours, mes prédications ne tiraient pas leur valeur des arguments de la philosophie, mais ils la tiraient des démonstrations de l'Esprit et de la puissance divine,

5 that your faith would not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

afin que votre foi ne reposât pas sur la philosophie des hommes, mais sur la puissance de Dieu.

6 We speak wisdom, however, among those who are full grown, yet a wisdom not of this age (aiōn g165) nor of the rulers of this age (aiōn g165) who are coming to nothing.

Nous avons bien notre philosophie, mais nous ne la prêchons qu'aux hommes d'âge mûr. C'est une philosophie qui n'est pas celle de ce siècle, ni celle des princes de ce siècle qui vont passer. (aiōn g165)

7 But we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the wisdom that has been hidden, which God foreordained before the ages (aiōn g165) for our glory,

Nous prêchons une philosophie divine, jusqu'ici mystérieuse et cachée, et que Dieu avait décrétée avant les siècles et cela pour notre gloire. (aiōn g165)

8 which none of the rulers of this age (aiōn g165) has known. For had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

Aucun des princes de ce siècle ne l'a connue (s'ils l'eussent connue, ils n'auraient pas crucifié le Seigneur de gloire), (aiōn g165)

9 But as it is written, “Things which an eye did not see, and an ear did not hear, which did not enter into the heart of man, these God has prepared for those who love him.”

mais, comme dit l'Écriture: «...Ce qu'aucun oeil n'a vu, ce qu'aucune oreille n'a entendu, Ce qui n'est monté au coeur d'aucun homme, Ce que Dieu a préparé pour ceux qui l'aiment...»

10 But to us, God revealed them through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

C'est à nous que Dieu l'a révélée par son Esprit; car l'Esprit sonde tout, même les profondeurs de Dieu.

11 For who among men knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God except God’s Spirit.

Quel homme sait ce qui se passe dans un homme? Ce n'est que l'esprit de cet homme qui est en lui-même. De même ce qui est en Dieu, personne ne le sait que l'Esprit de Dieu.

12 But we received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is from God, that we might know the things that were freely given to us by God.

Nous, nous n'avons pas reçu l'esprit du monde, mais l'Esprit qui vient de Dieu (pour que nous sachions les grâces que Dieu nous a faites).

13 We also speak these things, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.

Ce qu'il nous révèle, nous ne l'exprimons pas dans les termes qu'enseigne la philosophie humaine, mais dans ceux qu'enseigne l'Esprit; nous sommes attentifs à exprimer ce qui est spirituel en style spirituel.

14 Now the natural man does not receive the things of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

L'homme qui n'a que ses facultés naturelles n'accepte pas les choses de l'Esprit de Dieu. Il les taxe de folie, il ne peut les connaître, parce qu'elles demandent à être jugées avec l'Esprit.

15 But he who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is to be judged by no one.

L'homme spirituel, au contraire, juge de tout et n'est jugé par personne.

16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he should instruct him?” But we have Christ’s mind.

«Qui connaît, en effet, la pensée du Seigneur Pour l'instruire? » Nous, nous avons la pensée de Christ.
