Ezechiël 29

1 In het tiende jaar, de twaalfde van de tiende maand, werd het woord van Jahweh tot mij gericht:

In the tenth year, in the tenth [month], in the twelfth of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been unto me, saying,

2 Mensenkind, ge moet uw gelaat richten op Farao, den koning van Egypte, en tegen hem en tegen heel Egypte profeteren.

'Son of man, set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy concerning him, and concerning Egypt — all of it.

3 Zo moet ge spreken: Dit zegt Jahweh, de Heer! Ik kom op u af, Farao, koning van Egypte, gij grote krokodil, die neerligt in uw stromen en pocht: Van mij is mijn Nijl, ik heb hem zelf gemaakt!

Speak, and thou hast said: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Lo, I [am] against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt! The great dragon that is crouching in the midst of his floods, Who hath said, My flood [is] my own, And I — I have made it [for] myself.

4 Ik ga haken slaan in uw kaken, de vissen van uw stromen aan uw schubben plakken, u ophalen midden uit uw stromen, met alle vissen van uw stromen, die kleven aan uw schubben.

And I have put hooks in thy jaws, And I have caused the fish of thy floods to cleave to thy scales, And I have caused thee to come up from the midst of thy floods, And every fish of thy floods to thy scales doth cleave.

5 Dan slinger Ik u weg in de steppe, u en al de vissen uit uw stromen, op de barre grond kwakt ge neer; niemand die u weghaalt, niemand die u opraapt! Aan de wilde dieren en de vogels in de lucht geef Ik u te verslinden.

And I have left thee in the wilderness, Thou and every fish of thy floods, On the face of the field thou dost fall, Thou art not gathered nor assembled, To the beast of the earth and to the fowl of the heavens I have given thee for food.

6 Zo zullen alle inwoners van Egypte erkennen, dat Ik Jahweh ben! Want ge zijt een rietstok voor het huis van Israël:

And known have all inhabitants of Egypt That I [am] Jehovah, Because of their being a staff of reed to the house of Israel.

7 grijpt hun hand u vast, dan knakt ge, en rijt ge heel hun hand open; steunen ze op u, dan breekt ge en verlamt aller heupen.

In their taking hold of thee by thy hand, — thou art crushed, And hast rent to them all the shoulder, And in their leaning on thee thou art broken, And hast caused all their thighs to stand.

8 Daarom zegt Jahweh, de Heer: Ik kom met een zwaard op u af, vaag mens en dier uit u weg,

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: Lo, I am bringing in against thee a sword, And have cut off from thee man and beast.

9 zodat Egypte een kale steppe wordt. Zo zullen ze erkennen, dat Ik Jahweh ben! Omdat gij pocht: Van mij is de Nijl, ik heb hem zelf gemaakt:

And the land of Egypt hath been for a desolation and a waste, And they have known that I [am] Jehovah. Because he said: The flood [is] mine, and I made [it].

10 daarom zàl Ik u en uw Nijl! Ik maak Egypte tot een kale steppe, platgelopen van Migdol tot Syene en de grens van Ethiopië.

Therefore, lo, I [am] against thee, and against thy floods, And have given the land of Egypt for wastes, A waste, a desolation, from Migdol to Syene, And unto the border of Cush.

11 Geen mensenvoet of dierenhoef zal het betreden, en veertig jaren zal het onbewoond blijven.

Not pass over into it doth a foot of man, Yea, the foot of beast doth not pass into it, Nor is it inhabited forty years.

12 Veertig jaar laat Ik Egypte braak liggen tussen geteisterde landen, en zijn steden als een puinhoop tussen verwoeste steden; de Egyptenaren zal Ik onder de volken verspreiden, en ze over de landen verstrooien.

And I have made the land of Egypt a desolation, In the midst of desolate lands, And its cities, in the midst of waste cities, Are a desolation forty years, And I have scattered the Egyptians among nations, And I have dispersed them through lands.

13 Want dit zegt Jahweh, de Heer: Na verloop van veertig jaar zal Ik de Egyptenaren samenbrengen uit de volken, waaronder ze verspreid zijn,

But thus said the Lord Jehovah: At the end of forty years I gather the Egyptians Out of the peoples whither they have been scattered,

14 en zal Ik Egypte’s lot ten beste keren; Ik breng ze terug naar het land Patros, het land waar ze vandaan komen. Maar ze zullen een onbeduidend rijkje vormen;

And I have turned back [to] the captivity of Egypt, And I have brought them back [To] the land of Pathros, to the land of their birth, And they have been there a low kingdom.

15 kleiner dan andere rijken zal het zijn, en zich nimmer boven de volken kunnen verheffen. Ik zal ze klein houden, opdat ze de volken niet kunnen regeren.

Of the kingdoms it is lowest, And it lifteth not up itself any more above the nations, And I have made them few, So as not to rule among nations.

16 Dan zullen ze voor het huis van Israël geen houvast meer zijn, en niet hun schuld in herinnering brengen, omdat zij zich daaraan hebben vastgeklampt. Zo zullen ze erkennen, dat Ik Jahweh ben!

And it is no more to the house of Israel for a confidence, Bringing iniquity to remembrance, By their turning after them, And they have known that I [am] the Lord Jehovah.'

17 In het zeven en twintigste jaar, op de eerste van de eerste maand, werd het woord van Jahweh tot mij gericht:

And it cometh to pass, in the twenty and seventh year, in the first [month], in the first of the month, hath a word of Jehovah been unto me, saying:

18 Mensenkind, Nabukodonosor, de koning van Babel, heeft zijn leger zware dienst laten doen tegen Tyrus; alle hoofden zijn kaal geworden en alle schouders zijn ontveld; maar noch voor hem, noch voor zijn leger viel er uit Tyrus iets te halen voor de moeite, die hij eraan besteed heeft.

'Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, Hath caused his force to serve a great service against Tyre, Every head [is] bald — every shoulder peeled, And reward he had none, nor his force, out of Tyre, For the service that he served against it.

19 Daarom zegt Jahweh, de Heer: Ik ga aan Nabukodonosor, den koning van Babel, Egypte geven; daaruit zal hij de schatten wegslepen, de rijkdom plunderen, het bezit buitmaken. Dat zal de beloning voor zijn leger zijn.

Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah, Lo, I am giving to Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon the land of Egypt, And he hath taken away its store, And hath taken its spoil, and taken its prey, And it hath been a reward to his force.

20 Voor de moeite, die hij aan Tyrus besteed heeft, geef Ik hem Egypte; want ze hebben voor Mij gewerkt, zegt Jahweh, de Heer.

His wage for which he laboured I have given to him, The land of Egypt — in that they wrought for Me, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.

21 Op die dag laat Ik aan het volk van Israël een hoorn ontspruiten; en voor u zal Ik bewerken, dat ge in hun midden vrij uw mond kunt openen. Zo zullen ze erkennen, dat Ik Jahweh ben!

In that day I cause to shoot up a horn to the house of Israel, And to thee I give an opening of the mouth in their midst, And they have known that I [am] Jehovah!'
