1 Hvad er da Jødens Fortrin? eller hvad gavner Omskærelsen?
Then what advantage does the Jew have? And what is the benefit of circumcision?
2 Meget alle Måder; først nemlig dette, at Guds Ord ere blevne dem betroede.
It is great in every way. First of all, the Jews were entrusted with revelation from God.
3 Thi hvad? om nogle vare utro, skal da deres Utroskab gøre Guds Trofasthed til intet?
For what if some Jews were without faith? Will their unbelief abolish God's faithfulness?
4 Det være langt fra! Gud må være sanddru, om end hvert Menneske er en Løgner, som der er skrevet: "For at du må kendes retfærdig i dine Ord og vinde, når du går i Rette."
May it never be. Instead, let God be found to be true, even though every man is a liar. As it has been written, “That you might be shown to be righteous in your words, and that you might prevail when you come into judgment.”
5 Men dersom vor Uretfærdighed beviser Guds Retfærdighed, hvad skulle vi da sige? er Gud da uretfærdig, han, som lader sin Vrede komme? (Jeg taler efter menneskelig Vis).
But if our unrighteousness shows the righteousness of God, what can we say? Can we say that God is unrighteous to bring his wrath upon us? (I am using a human argument.)
6 Det være langt fra! Thi hvorledes skal Gud ellers kunne dømme Verden?
May it never be! For then how would God judge the world?
7 Men dersom Guds Sanddruhed ved min Løgn er bleven ham end mere til Forherligelse, hvorfor dømmes da jeg endnu som en Synder?
But if the truth of God through my lie provides abundant praise for him, why am I still being judged as a sinner?
8 Og hvorfor skulde vi da ikke, som man bagvasker os for, og som nogle sige, at vi lære, gøre det onde, for at det gode kan komme deraf? Sådannes Dom er velforskyldt.
Why not say, as we are falsely reported to say, and as some affirm that we say, “Let us do evil, so that good may come”? The judgment on them is just.
9 Hvad da? have vi noget forud? Aldeles ikke; vi have jo ovenfor anklaget både Jøder og Grækere for alle at være under Synd,
What then? Are we excusing ourselves? Not at all. For we have already accused both Jews and Greeks, all of them, of being under sin.
10 som der er skrevet: "Der er ingen retfærdig, end ikke een;
This is as it is written: “There is no one righteous, not one.
11 der er ingen forstandig, der er ingen, som søger efter Gud;
There is no one who understands. There is no one who seeks after God.
12 alle ere afvegne, til Hobe ere de blevne uduelige, der er ingen, som øver Godhed, der er end ikke een."
They have all turned away. They together have become useless. There is no one who does good, no, not even one.”
13 "En åbnet Grav er deres Strube; med deres Tunger øvede de Svig;" "der er Slangegift under deres Læber;"
“Their throat is an open grave. Their tongues have deceived. The poison of snakes is under their lips.”
14 "deres Mund er fuld af Forbandelse og Beskhed;"
“Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
15 "rappe ere deres Fødder til at udøse Blod;
“Their feet are swift to pour out blood.
16 der er Ødelæggelse og Elendighed på deres Veje,
Destruction and suffering are in their paths.
17 og Freds Vej have de ikke kendt."
These people have not known a way of peace.”
18 "Der er ikke Gudsfrygt for deres Øjne."
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
19 Men vi vide, at alt, hvad Loven siger, taler den til dem, som ere under Loven, for at hver Mund skal stoppes og hele Verden blive strafskyldig for Gud,
Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to the ones who are under the law. This is in order that every mouth may be shut, and the whole world held accountable to God.
20 efterdi intet Kød vil blive retfærdiggjort for ham af Lovens Gerninger; thi ved Loven kommer Erkendelse af Synd.
This is because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
21 Men nu er uden Lov Guds Retfærdighed åbenbaret, om hvilken der vidnes af Loven og Profeterne.
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known. It was witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,
22 nemlig Guds Retfærdighed ved Tro på Jesus Kristus, for alle og over alle dem, som tro; thi der er ikke Forskel.
that is, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe. For there is no distinction.
23 Alle have jo syndet, og dem fattes Æren fra Gud,
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,
24 og de blive retfærdiggjorte uforskyldt af hans Nåde ved den Forløsning, som er i Kristus Jesus,
and they are freely justified by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
25 hvem Gud fremstillede som Sonemiddel ved Troen på hans Blod for at vise sin Retfærdighed, fordi Gud i sin Langmodighed havde båret over med de forhen begåede Synder,
For God provided Christ Jesus as a propitiation through faith in his blood. He offered Christ as proof of his justice, because of his disregard of previous sins
26 for at vise sin Retfærdighed i den nærværende Tid, for at han kunde være retfærdig og retfærdiggøre den, som er af Tro på Jesus.
in his patience. This all happened for the demonstration of his righteousness at this present time. This was so he could prove himself just, and to show that he justifies anyone because of faith in Jesus.
27 Hvor er så vor Ros? Den er udelukket. Ved hvilken Lov? Gerningernes? Nej, men ved Troens Lov.
Where then is boasting? It is excluded. On what grounds? Of works? No, but on the grounds of faith.
28 Vi holde nemlig for, at Mennesket bliver retfærdiggjort ved Tro, uden Lovens Gerninger.
We conclude then that a person is justified by faith without works of the law.
29 Eller er Gud alene Jøders Gud? mon ikke også Hedningers? Jo, også Hedningers;
Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not also the God of Gentiles? Yes, of Gentiles also.
30 så sandt som Gud er een og vil retfærdiggøre omskårne af Tro og uomskårne ved Troen.
If, indeed, God is one, he will justify the circumcision by faith, and the uncircumcision through faith.
31 Gøre vi da Loven til intet ved Troen? Det være langt fra! Nej, vi hævde Loven.
Do we then nullify the law through faith? May it never be! Instead, we uphold the law.
