Izaija 36

1 Četrnaeste godine Ezekijina kraljevanja asirski kralj Sanherib napade sve utvrđene judejske gradove i osvoji ih.

Nowe in the fourteenth yeere of King Hezekiah, Saneherib King of Asshur came vp against al the strong cities of Iudah, and tooke them.

2 Tada pošalje asirski kralj iz Lakiša u Jeruzalem kralju Ezekiji velikoga peharnika s jakom vojskom. On stade kod vodovoda Gornjeg ribnjaka, na putu u Valjarevo polje.

And the King of Asshur sent Rabshakeh from Lachish toward Ierusalem vnto King Hezekiah, with a great hoste, and he stood by ye conduite of the vpper poole in the path of the fullers fielde.

3 K njemu iziđe upravitelj dvora Elijakim, sin Hilkijin, pisar Šebna i savjetnik Joah, sin Asafov.

Then came foorth vnto him Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah the steward of the house, and Shebna the chanceler, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder.

4 Veliki im peharnik reče: “Kažite Ezekiji: Ovako govori veliki kralj, kralj asirski: 'Kakvo je to uzdanje u koje se uzdaš?

And Rabshakeh sayde vnto them, Tell you Hezekiah, I pray you, Thus sayth the great King, the King of Asshur, What confidence is this, wherein thou trustest?

5 Misliš li da su prazne riječi već i savjet i snaga za rat? U koga se uzdaš da si se pobunio protiv mene?

I say, Surely I haue eloquence, but counsell and strength are for the warre: on whom then doest thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

6 Eto, oslanjaš se na Egipat, na slomljenu trsku koja prodire i probada dlan onomu tko se na nju nasloni. Takav je faraon, kralj egipatski, svima koji se uzdaju u njega.'

Loe, thou trustest in this broken staffe of reede on Egypt, whereupon if a man leane, it will goe into his hand, and pearce it: so is Pharaoh King of Egypt, vnto all that trust in him.

7 Možda ćete mi odgovoriti: 'Uzdamo se u Jahvu, Boga svojega.' Ali nije li njemu Ezekija uklonio uzvišice i žrtvenike i zapovjedio Judejcima i Jeruzalemu: 'Samo se pred ovim žrtvenikom klanjajte!'

But if thou say to me, We trust in the Lord our God. Is not that he, whose hie places and whose altars Hezekiah tooke downe, and said to Iudah and to Ierusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?

8 Hajde, okladi se s mojim gospodarom, kraljem asirskim: dat ću ti dvije tisuće konja ako mogneš naći jahače za njih.

Nowe therefore giue hostages to my lorde the King of Asshur, and I wil giue thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders vpon them.

9 Kako ćeš onda odoljeti jednome jedinom od najmanjih slugu moga gospodara? Ali ti se uzdaš u Egipat da će ti dati kola i konjanike!

For howe canst thou despise any captaine of the least of my lordes seruants? and put thy trust on Egypt for charets and for horsemen?

10 Naposljetku, zar sam ja mimo volju Jahvinu krenuo protiv ove zemlje da je razorim? Sam mi je Jahve rekao: 'Idi na tu zemlju i razori je!'”

And am I now come vp without the Lord to this land to destroy it? The Lord sayd vnto me, Goe vp against this land and destroy it.

11 Elijakim, Šebna i Joah rekoše velikom peharniku: “Molimo te, govori svojim slugama aramejski, jer mi razumijemo; ne govori s nama judejski da čuje narod koji je na zidinama.”

Then sayd Eliakim and Shebna and Ioah vnto Rabshakeh, Speake, I pray thee, to thy seruants in the Aramites language, (for we vnderstand it) and talke not with vs in the Iewes tongue, in the audience of the people that are on the wall.

12 Ali im veliki peharnik odgovori: “Zar me moj gospodar poslao da ovo kažem tvojem gospodaru i tebi, a ne upravo onim ljudima koji sjede na zidinama, osuđeni da s vama jedu svoju nečist i piju svoju mokraću?”

Then said Rabshakeh, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee to speake these wordes, and not to the men that sit on the wall? that they may eate their owne doung, and drinke their owne pisse with you?

13 Tada se veliki peharnik uspravi i u sav glas povika na judejskom ove riječi: “Čujte riječ velikoga kralja, kralja asirskoga!

So Rabshakeh stood, and cryed with a loude voyce in the Iewes language, and sayd, Heare the wordes of the great King, of the King of Asshur.

14 Ovako veli kralj: 'Neka vas Ezekija ne zavarava, jer vas ne može izbaviti iz moje ruke.

Thus saith the King, Let not Hezekiah deceiue you: for he shall not be able to deliuer you.

15 Neka vas Ezekija ne hrabri pouzdanjem u Jahvu govoreći: Jahve će nas sigurno izbaviti: ovaj grad neće pasti u ruke kralju asirskom.

Neither let Hezekiah make you to trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliuer vs: this citie shall not be giuen ouer into the hand of the King of Asshur.

16 Ne slušajte Ezekije, jer ovako veli asirski kralj: Sklopite mir sa mnom, predajte mi se, pa neka svaki od vas jede plodove iz svoga vinograda i sa svoje smokve i neka pije vode iz svojega studenca

Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus sayth the King of Asshur, Make appointment with me, and come out to me, that euery man may eate of his owne vine, and euery man of his owne fig tree, and drinke euery man the water of his owne well,

17 dok ne dođem i ne odvedem vas u zemlju kao što je vaša, u zemlju pšenice i mošta, u zemlju kruha i vinograda.

Till I come and bring you to a land like your owne land, euen a land of wheate, and wine, a land of bread and vineyardes,

18 Ne dajte da vas Ezekija zaludi govoreći vam: Jahve će vas izbaviti. Jesu li bogovi drugih naroda izbavili svoje zemlje iz ruku asirskoga kralja?

Least Hezekiah deceiue you, saying, The Lord wil deliuer vs. Hath any of the gods of the nations deliuered his land out of the hand of the King of Asshur?

19 Gdje su bogovi hamatski i arpadski, gdje su bogovi sefarvajimski, gdje su bogovi samarijski da izbave Samariju iz moje ruke?

Where is the god of Hamath, and of Arpad? where is the god of Sepharuaim? or howe haue they deliuered Samaria out of mine hand?

20 Koji su među svim bogovima tih zemalja izbavili svoju zemlju iz moje ruke, da bi Jahve izbavio Jeruzalem iz ruke moje?'”

Who is hee among all the gods of these lands, that hath deliuered their countrey out of mine hand, that the Lord should deliuer Ierusalem out of mine hand?

21 Šutjeli su i ni riječi mu nisu odgovorili, jer kralj bijaše zapovjedio: “Ne odgovarajte mu!”

Then they kept silence, and answered him not a worde: for the Kings commandement was, saying, Answere him not.

22 Upravitelj dvora Elijakim, sin Hilkijin, pisar Šebna i savjetnik Joah, sin Asafov, dođoše k Ezekiji, razdrijevši haljine, i saopćiše mu riječi velikoga peharnika.

Then came Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah the steward of the house, and Shebna the chanceller, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder, vnto Hezekiah with rent clothes, and tolde him the wordes of Rabshakeh.
