1 ⲁ̅ ⲛⲁϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲓⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲛⲣ ⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲛϣⲁⲛⲣ ⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲟⲩⲛⲧⲁⲛ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲙⲡⲉⲧⲥⲟⲡⲥ ⲉϫⲱⲛ ⲛⲁϩⲣⲙ ⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲡⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥ
My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counsellor with the Father, Yeshua the Messiah, the righteous.
2 ⲃ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲥⲟⲡⲥ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲛⲉⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲛⲛⲟⲩⲛ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲁⲩⲁⲁⲛ ⲁⲛ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲛⲁ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲧⲏⲣϥ
And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.
3 ⲅ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ϩⲙ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲧⲉⲛⲉⲓⲙⲉ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲥⲟⲩⲱⲛϥ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲛϣⲁⲛϩⲁⲣⲉϩ ⲛⲛⲉϥⲉⲛⲧⲟⲗⲏ
This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments.
4 ⲇ̅ ⲡⲉⲧϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲓⲥⲟⲩⲱⲛϥ ⲛϥϩⲁⲣⲉϩ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲛⲉϥⲉⲛⲧⲟⲗⲏ ⲟⲩⲣⲉϥϫⲓ ϭⲟⲗ ⲡⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲙⲉ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲙ ⲡⲁⲓ
One who says, “I know him,” and doesn’t keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him.
5 ⲉ̅ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁϩⲁⲣⲉϩ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲡⲉϥϣⲁϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲙⲉ ⲁⲧⲁⲅⲁⲡⲏ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲓ ⲧⲉⲛⲉⲓⲙⲉ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲛϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
But God’s love has most certainly been perfected in whoever keeps his word. This is how we know that we are in him:
6 ⲋ̅ ⲡⲉⲧϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ϯⲥⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ϣϣⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϩⲱⲱϥ ⲉⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲧⲉⲣⲉⲡⲏ ⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ
he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.
7 ⲍ̅ ⲛⲁⲙⲉⲣⲁⲧⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲉⲛⲧⲟⲗⲏ ⲛⲃⲣⲣⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲧⲉϯⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲟⲩⲉⲛⲧⲟⲗⲏ ⲛⲁⲥ ⲧⲉ ⲧⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲛⲧⲏⲧⲛⲥ ⲛϫⲓⲛ ⲧⲉϩⲟⲩⲉⲓⲧⲉ ⲧⲉⲛⲧⲟⲗⲏ ⲛⲁⲥ ⲡⲉ ⲡϣⲁϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲧⲉⲛⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲉⲣⲟϥ
Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.
8 ⲏ̅ ⲡⲁⲗⲓⲛ ⲟⲛ ⲛⲟⲩⲉⲛⲧⲟⲗⲏ ⲛⲃⲣⲣⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲧⲉϯⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲟⲩⲙⲉ ⲡⲉ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ϫⲉ ⲡⲕⲁⲕⲉ ⲛⲁⲡⲁⲣⲁⲕⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓⲛ ⲙⲙⲉ ϫⲓⲛ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ϥⲣ ⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓⲛ
Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light already shines.
9 ⲑ̅ ⲡⲉⲧϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ϯϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲙ ⲡⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ϥⲙⲟⲥⲧⲉ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ϥϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲁⲕⲉ ϣⲁϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ
He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness even until now.
10 ⲓ̅ ⲡⲉⲧⲙⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ϥϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ϩⲙ ⲡⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲛ ⲥⲕⲁⲛⲧⲁⲗⲗⲟⲛ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.
11 ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ ⲡⲉⲧⲙⲟⲥⲧⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ϥϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲁⲕⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉϥⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲁⲕⲉ ⲛϥⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲉϥⲃⲏⲕ ⲉⲧⲱⲛ ϫⲉ ⲁⲡⲕⲁⲕⲉ ⲧⲱⲙ ⲛⲛⲉϥⲃⲁⲗ
But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
12 ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ ϯⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲛϣⲏⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ϫⲉ ⲁⲩⲕⲱ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲛⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲉϥⲣⲁⲛ
I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.
13 ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ ϯⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲛⲉⲓⲟⲧⲉ ϫⲉ ⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲩⲉⲛ ⲡⲉⲧϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛϫⲓⲛ ϣⲟⲣⲡ ϯⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲛϩⲓⲣϣⲉⲣⲉ ϫⲉ ⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛϫⲣⲟ ⲉⲡⲟⲛⲏⲣⲟⲥ
I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you know the Father.
14 ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ ⲁⲓⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲛϣⲏⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ϫⲉ ⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲩⲉⲛ ⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲁⲓⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲛⲉⲓⲟⲧⲉ ϫⲉ ⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲩⲉⲛ ⲡⲉⲧϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛϫⲓⲛ ⲧⲉϩⲟⲩⲉⲓⲧⲉ ⲁⲓⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲛϩⲓⲣϣⲉⲣⲓ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲧⲛϫⲟⲟⲣ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡϣⲁϫⲉ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛϫⲣⲟ ⲉⲡⲟⲛⲏⲣⲟⲥ
I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
15 ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ ⲙⲡⲉⲣⲙⲉⲣⲓ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⲛⲉⲧϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲣⲉϣⲁⲛⲟⲩⲁ ⲙⲉⲣⲓ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲓⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲅⲁⲡⲏ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲁⲛ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.
16 ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ ϫⲉ ϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲧⲉⲡⲉⲓⲑⲩⲙⲉⲓⲁ ⲛⲧⲥⲁⲣⲝ ⲙⲛ ⲧⲉⲡⲉⲓⲑⲩⲙⲉⲓⲁ ⲛⲛⲉⲃⲁⲗ ⲙⲛ ⲡϣⲟⲩϣⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲃⲓⲟⲥ ⲛϩⲉⲛⲛⲉⲃⲁⲗ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϩⲉⲛⲛⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s.
17 ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲡⲁⲣⲁⲅⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲧⲉϥⲉⲉⲡⲉⲓⲑⲩⲙⲓⲁ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ϥⲛⲁϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛϣⲁ ⲉⲛⲉϩ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲙⲡⲏ ⲉⲧϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛϣⲁ ⲉⲛⲉϩ (aiōn g165)
The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever. (aiōn g165)
18 ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ ⲛⲁϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲑⲁⲏ ⲛⲟⲩⲛⲟⲩ ⲧⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲱⲧⲙ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲛⲇⲓⲭⲣⲏⲥⲧⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲩ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ⲁϩⲁϩ ⲛⲁⲛⲇⲓⲭⲣⲏⲥⲧⲟⲥ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲧⲉⲛⲉⲓⲙⲉ ϫⲉ ⲑⲁⲏ ⲛⲟⲩⲛⲟⲩ ⲧⲉ
Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Anti-messiah is coming, even now many anti-messiahs have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour.
19 ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ ⲛⲧⲁⲩⲉⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϩⲏⲧⲛ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲛϩⲉⲛⲛⲉⲃⲁⲗ ⲛϩⲏⲧⲛ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲉ ⲉⲛⲉϩ ⲉⲛⲛⲉϩⲉⲛⲛⲉⲃⲁⲗ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛϩⲏⲧⲛ ⲛⲉ ⲛⲉⲩⲛⲁϭⲱ ⲛⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲩⲛⲁⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉ ϩⲉⲛⲛⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϩⲏⲧⲛ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲉ
They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.
20 ⲕ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ϩⲱⲱ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲟⲩⲛⲧⲏⲧⲛ ⲙⲙⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲩⲧⲱϩⲥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲡⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲧⲏⲣⲧⲛ
You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.
21 ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ ⲛⲧⲁⲓⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲧⲙⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ϫⲉ ϭⲟⲗ ⲛⲓⲙ ϩⲉⲛⲛⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲙⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲉ
I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
22 ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲣⲉϥϫⲓ ϭⲟⲗ ⲉⲓ ⲙⲏⲧⲉⲓ ⲡⲉⲧⲁⲣⲛⲁ ϫⲉ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲁⲛⲇⲓⲭⲣⲏⲥⲧⲟⲥ ⲡⲉⲧⲁⲣⲛⲁ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ
Who is the liar but he who denies that Yeshua is the Messiah? This is the Anti-messiah, he who denies the Father and the Son.
23 ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲁⲣⲛⲁ ⲙⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲙⲛⲧⲁϥ ⲟⲛ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲡⲉⲧϩⲟⲙⲟⲗⲟⲅⲉⲓ ⲙⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲟⲩⲛⲧⲁϥ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ
Whoever denies the Son doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.
24 ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ⲇⲉ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲧⲛⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϫⲓⲛ ϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉϥϣⲁⲛϭⲱ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲱⲧⲙⲉϥ ⲛϫⲓⲛ ϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ϭⲱⲱ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲛⲁϣⲱⲡⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ
Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father.
25 ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲣⲏⲧ ⲛⲧⲁϥⲉⲣⲏⲧ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲛⲁⲛ ⲡⲱⲛϩ ϣⲁ ⲉⲛⲉϩ (aiōnios g166)
This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
26 ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲓⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲛⲉⲧⲡⲗⲁⲛⲁ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲛ
These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray.
27 ⲕ̅ⲍ̅ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ⲡⲧⲱϩⲥ ⲛⲧⲁⲧⲉⲧⲛϫⲓⲧϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ ϥϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲣ ⲭⲣⲓⲁ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲣⲉⲟⲩⲁ ϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲛⲑⲉ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲧⲱϩⲥ ⲉϥϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲩⲙⲉ ⲡⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲛ ϭⲟⲗ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲛⲧⲁϥϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲛϭⲉⲉⲧ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.
28 ⲕ̅ⲏ̅ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ⲟⲛ ⲛⲁϣⲏⲣⲉ ϭⲱ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉϥϣⲁⲛⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉⲛⲉϫⲓ ⲛⲟⲩⲡⲁⲣⲣⲏⲥⲓⲁ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲛⲧⲙϫⲓ ϣⲓⲡⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉϥⲡⲁⲣϩⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ
Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
29 ⲕ̅ⲑ̅ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲁⲛⲉⲓⲙⲉ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲓ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲛⲁⲉⲓⲙⲉ ⲟⲛ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲧⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥⲩⲛⲏ ⲛⲧⲁⲩϫⲡⲟϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
