1 Hatnavah, taminaw touklek thai hoeh lah a kamkhueng awh teh, a kâ katin kâ ka awi awh. Jisuh ni a hnukkâbangnaw koe a dei pouh e teh tami kahawi lah kâsaknae Farasinaw e ton hmaloe pasuek lah roun awh.
Meanwhile the people had gathered in thousands, so that they trod on one another, when Jesus, addressing himself to his disciples, began by saying to them, ‘Be on your guard against the leaven – that is, the hypocrisy – of the Pharisees.
2 Ramuk lah kaawm e naw pueng a kamawng han. Hro lah kaawm e naw pueng a kamphawng han.
There is nothing, however covered up, which will not be uncovered, nor anything kept secret which will not become known.
3 A hmonae koe nangmouh ni na dei e naw pueng angnae dawk a thai awh han. Nangmouh ni cawngket vah arulahoi hnâ koe lawknaw na dei e pueng lemphu hoi pathang lah o han.
So all that you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear, within closed doors, will be proclaimed on the housetops.
4 Ka huinaw, nangmouh koe ka dei e teh, tak ka thet ni teh alouke hno bout ka thet thai hoeh e taket awh hanh.
To you who are my friends I say, Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but after that can do no more.
5 Bangpatet e tami maw na taki han tetpawiteh tak ka thet thai ni teh hell dawk ka tâkhawng thai e hah taket awh. Atangcalah na dei pouh awh. Hote tami hah taket awh. (Geenna g1067)
I will show you of whom you should be afraid. Be afraid of him who, after killing you, has the power to fling you into Gehenna. Yes, I say, be afraid of him. (Geenna g1067)
6 Pusu panga touh e hah tangka kahni touh hoi na ran awh nahoehmaw. Hote pusu buet touh boehai Cathut ni pahnim hoeh.
Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? Yet not one of them has escaped God’s notice.
7 Nangmae na sam hai abuemlahoi koung a touk. Hatdawkvah taket awh hanh. Nangmanaw teh pusunaw hlak aphu hoe na o awh.
No, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
8 Kai ni na dei pouh e teh apihai thoseh, taminaw e hmalah kai na kampangkhai. Cathut e kalvantami e hmalah tami Capa ni hote tami teh ka kampangkhai van han.
Everyone, I tell you, who publicly acknowledges me, the Son of Man, also, will acknowledge before God’s angels;
9 Apihai thoseh, taminaw e hmalah kai na hnoun, Cathut e kalvantami e hmalah kai ni ka hnoun van han.
but the person who publicly disowns me will be altogether disowned before God’s angels.
10 Tami Capa pahni hoi ka dudam e tami teh ngaithoum lah ao thai rah. Kathoung Muitha ka dudam e tami teh nâtuek hai ngaithoumnae hmawt thai mahoeh toe.
Everyone who will say anything against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but for the person who slanders the Holy Spirit there will be no forgiveness.
11 Sinakok dawk hai thoseh, ka ukkungnaw hoi kâ katawnnaw koe hai thoseh, nangmanaw hah na hrawi awh navah, bangmaw ka dei han tie kângai awh hanh.
Whenever they take you before the synagogue Courts or the magistrates or other authorities, do not be anxious as to how you will defend yourselves, or what your defence will be, or what you will say;
12 Bangkongtetpawiteh, bangtelamaw ka dei han tie hah atueng pha torei teh Kathoung Muitha ni na cangkhai han telah atipouh.
for the Holy Spirit will show you at the moment what you ought to say.’
13 Tamimaya thung dawk e tami buet touh ni yah, Bawipa ka hmau ni râw kai hai na rei hanelah dei pouh haw telah atipouh navah,
‘Teacher,’ a man in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘tell my brother to share the property with me.’
14 Bawipa ni apinimaw nangmanaw râw rei hanelah kai na rawi a vaw telah a pacei.
But Jesus said to him, ‘Man, who made me a judge or an arbiter between you?’
15 Hathnukkhu hoi hounlounnae hah kâhruetcuet nateh roun awh. Bangkongtetpawiteh, hnopai tawn nakunghai hnopai dawk hringnae awmhoeh telah ti pouh.
And then he added, ‘Take care to keep yourselves free from every form of covetousness; for even in the height of their prosperity a person’s true life does not depend on what they have.’
16 Bangnuenae lahoi bout a dei pouh e teh, ka tangreng e tami buet touh ni a paw moikapap ka tâcawt e talai kahawi buet touh a tawn.
Then Jesus told them this parable – ‘There was once a rich man whose land was very fertile;
17 Hote tangreng ni, cakang ka ta nahan hmuen awmhoeh toe, bangtelamaw ka ti han toung telah a lung thung a pouk.
and he began to ask himself “What will I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?
18 Ka tâsongnaw ka raphoe vaiteh tâsong kalenpoung lah ka sak hnukkhu cakang hoi hno kahawinaw teh hote hmuen dawk ka pâtung han.
This is what I will do,” he said; “I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and store all my grain and my goods in them;
19 Ka muitha hanelah, nang ni kum moi kasawlah na hno hane hnopainaw koung ka pâtung toe. Duem kâhat lawih, cat net nateh nawm lawih telah ka ti pouh awh han.
and I will say to myself, Now you have plenty of good things put by for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.”
20 Telah a pouk lahun navah Cathut ni tamipathu atu tangduem, nange muitha oun ka lat pawiteh, hnopai na kuem e naw apinimaw a pang han vaw telah tangreng koe atipouh.
But God said to the man “Fool! This very night your life is being demanded; and as for all you have prepared – who will have it?”
21 Hot patetvanlah ma hanelah hnopai ka pâtung ni teh Cathut hmalah ka mathoe e tami teh hote tangreng bawi hoi doeh a kâvan telah a ti.
So it is with those who lay by wealth for themselves and are not rich to the glory of God.’
22 Hnukkâbangnaw koe bout a dei pouh e teh, hatdawkvah nangmouh ni bangtelamaw ka canei han telah hring nahanelah ngaihri awh hanh. Bangtelamaw ka khohna han telah na tak hanelah ngaihri awh hanh.
And Jesus said to his disciples, ‘That is why I say to you, Do not be anxious about the life here – what you can get to eat; or about your body – what you can get to wear.
23 Rawca hlak hringnae aphu awm hoeh na maw. Khohna hlak na tak heh phu awm hoeh na maw.
For life is more than food, and the body than its clothes.
24 Vonganaw khenhaw! Hote tavanaw ni cati hai patûe awh hoeh. Cang hai a awh hoeh. A pâtung nahane capainaw hai tawn awh hoeh. Hatei Cathut ni doeh koung a kawkhik. Nangmanaw teh hote tavanaw hlak aphu moi na o awh nahoehmaw.
Think of the ravens – they neither sow nor reap; they have neither storehouse nor barn; and yet God feeds them! And how much more precious are you than birds!
25 Apini maw a ngaihri laihoi amae hringnae dong touh a pasaw thai han maw.
But which of you, by being anxious, can prolong your life a moment?
26 Telah kathoengpounge hnoca pateng na sak thai awh hoehpawiteh alouke hnonaw dawk bangkongmaw na ngaihri
And, if you cannot do even the smallest thing, why be anxious about other things?
27 Kahrawngum e apeikungnaw bangtelah hoi maw a roung awh, tie khenhaw. Thaw hai tawk awh hoeh, hnicu hai kawng awh hoeh. Hateiteh Solomon siangpahrang e bawilennae ni hote apeikung buet touh boehai phat hoeh.
Think of the lilies, and how they grow. They neither toil nor spin; yet, I tell you, even Solomon in all his splendour was not robed like one of these.
28 Yuemnae koe lah tha kayounnaw atu kahring ni teh tangtho takhuen koe ka phat e kahrawng e pho pateng Cathut ni hottelah a khohnat sak pawiteh, hot hlak nangmanaw teh na khohnat sak mahoeh maw.
If, even in the field, God so clothes the grass which is living today and tomorrow will be thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, you of little faith!
29 Hatdawkvah bangtelamaw ka canei awh han tie pouk awh hanh. Na lung hai puen sak awh hanh.
And you – do not be always seeking what you can get to eat or what you can get to drink; and do not waver.
30 Hote hnonaw teh talaivan miphun pueng ni ouk a tawng e doeh. Hote hnonaw, nangmouh ni na panki e hah nangmae na Pa ni a panue.
These are the things for which all the nations of the world are seeking, and your Father knows that you need them.
31 Nangmouh teh Cathut uknaeram ma hah tawng awh. Hahoi hote hnonaw teh na thap pouh awh han.
No, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added for you.
32 Tuhunaw, taket awh hanh. Nangmae na Pa ni nangmanaw koe ram na poe hane a ngai.
So do not be afraid, my little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.
33 Nangmae hnopainaw yawt awh nateh mathoenaw hah poe awh. Ka pawn thai hoeh e yawngya namamouh hanelah sak awh. Tamru ni a paruhoehnae koe, ahri ni a raphoehoehnae koe kalvan kho vah, ka pout thai hoeh e râw kuem awh.
‘Sell what belongs to you, and give in charity. Make yourselves purses that will not wear out – an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near, or moth works ruin.
34 Bangkongtetpawiteh, nangmae râw onae koe nangmae lungthin pouknae hai poe ao han.
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.
35 Taisawm kacaklah kâyeng nateh hmaiim sut paang awh.
Make yourselves ready, with your lamps alight;
36 Yuvâ kâpaluennae pawi koehoi a bawipa a tho toteh, tho takhawng navah tang paawng pouh thai nahanelah sut ka ring e san patetlah awm awh.
and be like servants who are waiting for their Master’s return from his wedding, so that, when he comes and knocks, they may open the door for him at once.
37 Bawipa bout a tho toteh, kâhruetcuet laihoi a ring tie bawipa ni a hmu e san teh a yawhawi. Kai ni lawkkatang na dei pouh e teh, a bawipa ni taisawm a kâyeng teh a sannaw a tahung sak teh, ama ni rawca a paca han.
Happy are those servants whom, on his return, the Master will find watching. I tell you that he will make himself ready, and have them take their places at the table, and will come and serve them.
38 Apâhni e tueng, hoi apâthum e tueng nah Bawipa a tho nah hottelah ka ring e sannaw hah hmawt pawiteh, ahnimouh teh a yawhawi awh.
Whether it is late at night, or in the early morning that he comes, if he finds all as it should be, then happy are they.
39 Imkung ni tamru a tho nahane atueng panuek pawiteh ama im a muk thai hoeh na hanelah a ring han tie hah nangmouh ni na panue awh.
This you do know, that, had the owner of the house known at what time the thief was coming, he would have been on the watch, and would not have let his house be broken into.
40 Hatdawkvah nangmouh ni coungkacoe lah ring awh. Bangkongtetpawiteh nangmanaw ni na poukhoehnae atueng dawk tami Capa teh a tho han telah atipouh.
You must also prepare, for when you are least expecting him the Son of Man will come.’
41 Piter ni Bawipa hete bangnuenae heh kaimouh hane dueng maw na dei, taminaw pueng hanelah maw na dei telah a pacei.
‘Master,’ said Peter, ‘are you telling this parable with reference to us or to everyone?’
42 Jisuh ni imkung ni a imthungnaw hanlah atueng pha toteh canei ka rei hanelah a rawi e tami yuemkamcu e hoi a lungkaang niteh, ka kuepcing e san teh apimaw.
‘Who, then,’ replied the Master, ‘is that trustworthy steward, the careful man, who will be placed by his master over his establishment, to give them their rations at the proper time?
43 Bawipa bout a tho navah hottelah kaawm e san teh a yawhawi.
Happy will that servant be whom his master, when he comes home, will find doing this.
44 Lawkkatang na dei pouh e teh bawi ni amae hnopai a tawn e naw pueng a san koe a kuem sak han.
His master, I tell you, will put him in charge of the whole of his property.
45 Hateiteh, hote san ni Bawipa tho hnai mahoeh telah a pouk teh amae a san huinaw napui tongpanaw hoi a kâhem awh teh a canei awh teh a parui awh.
But should that servant say to himself “My master is a long time coming,” and begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,
46 Hote san ni a poukhoehnae hnin, a panuehoehnae tueng dawk Bawipa tho pawiteh hote san teh puenghoi yonphu a khang vaiteh yuemkamcu hoeh e taminaw hoi cungtalah ao sak han.
that servant’s master will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour of which he is unaware, and will flog him severely and assign him his place among the untrustworthy.
47 Ama e a bawipa ngainae a panue nahlangva vah, kâhruetcuet lah kaawm hoeh e san teh avai moikapap hem lah ao han.
The servant who knows his master’s wishes and yet does not prepare and act accordingly will receive many lashes;
48 Hatei, ka panuek hoeh e teh younca doeh hem khai han. Moikapap poe e ni moikapap a patho han. Moikapap kuem sak e koe moikapap hei lah ao han.
while one who does not know his master’s wishes, but acts so as to deserve a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone to whom much has been given much will be expected, and from the man to whom much has been entrusted the more will be demanded.
49 Talai van hmai kak sak han doeh ka tho. Hmai ka kang tangcoung e lah o han ka ngainae hoe ao.
I came to cast fire on the earth; and what more can I wish, if it is already kindled?
50 Hatei, ka coe hane baptisma buet touh ao rah. Hote Baptisma ka hmu hoehroukrak banghloimaw ka lungrei a thai.
There is a baptism that I must undergo, and how great is my distress until it is over!
51 Talai dawk roumnae poe hanelah kai teh ka tho telah na pouk awh maw. Hottelah nahoeh. Buet touh hoi buet touh kâkapek sak hanelah doeh ka tho telah a ti.
Do you think that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but to cause division.
52 Bangtelamaw tetpawiteh, atu hoi teh tami panga touh kaawm e im dawkvah, kathum touh ni kahni touh e a taran vaiteh, kahni touh ni kathum touh e hah a taran han.
For from this time, if there are five people in a house, they will be divided, three against two, and two against three.
53 A na pa ni a capa, a capa ni a napa, a manu ni a canu, a canu ni a manu, a mani ni a langa, a langa ni a mani a taran vaiteh a kâkapek awh han.
Father will be opposed to son and son to father, mother to daughter and daughter to mother, mother-in-law to her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law to her mother-in-law.’
54 Tamimaya koe bout a dei pouh e teh nangmouh ni kanîloum lah tâmai a tho e na hmu awh navah khorak han doeh telah na ti awh. Na dei awh e patetlah a rak.
And to the people Jesus said, ‘When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once “There is a storm coming,” and come it does.
55 Aka lahoi kahlî tho e na hmu navah khumbei a thoe han doeh na ti awh. Na dei awh e patetlah bokheiyah.
And when you see that the wind is in the south, you say “It will be burning hot,” and so it proves.
56 Tamikahawi lah ka kâsaknaw nangmouh ni talai hoi kalvanlae mitnoutnae na kapek awh teh na panue thai awh. Bangkongmaw a tue na kapekkaboe thai awh hoeh vaw.
Hypocrites! You know how to judge of the earth and the sky; how is it, then, that you cannot judge of this time?
57 Hothloilah bangkongmaw katang e hno hah namamouh lungpouk na panue thai awh hoeh vaw.
Why don’t you yourselves decide what is right?
58 Nang na ka toe e hoi lawkcengkung koe reirei na cei navah, lam vah ahni hoi hnâbonae na sak thai nahanelah panki awh. Telah na sak hoehpawiteh ahni ni nang teh lawkcengkung bawi koe na hrawi vaiteh lawkcengkung ni karingkungnaw kut dawk na poe vaiteh karingkungnaw ni thongim na pabo han.
When, for instance, you are going with your opponent before a magistrate, on your way to the court do your best to be quit of him; otherwise he might drag you before the judge, then the judge will hand you over to the bailiff of the court, and the bailiff throw you into prison.
59 Tangka pueng koung na patho hoehroukrak thongim thung hoi na tâcawt mahoeh telah kai ni ka dei.
You will not, I tell you, come out until you have paid the very last cent.’
