1 Hiche hi Israel leng David chapa Solomon thuchih ho ahi.
The proverbs of Solomon [Peaceable, Recompense], the son of David [Beloved], king of Israel [God prevails]:
2 Hiche hi mihemten chihna le kigah chahna, thuchih kiseiho hi ipi kiseina ham, ti ahetdoh theina diu ahi.
to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;
3 Chule ahoi-apha adihlam’a kihilna kisan them’a adih le thudih agom’a kisanlut ding,
to receive instruction in wisdom, in righteousness, mishpat ·justice·, and equity;
4 Chuteng milham ho dinga lunglim-geh’a hinna, chule khangdong hon hetna le thil detkhen themna anei diu ahi.
to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man:
5 Miching jeng jong khodah’a thepna alambe ding, hetkhenna nei mihem in jong kihilchahna alambe ding ahi.
that the wise man may sh'ma ·hear obey·, and increase in learning; that the man of understanding may attain to sound counsel:
6 Hiche thuchih kiseiho le thil umdan hetthemna anei ding, miching hon thu asei teng, thulem aseidoh jouseu hettheina tha anei ding ahi.
to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise.
7 Pakai ginna hi hetna dinga abulpi ahin, mingol hon vang chihna le hilchah nan asang thei poi.
The fear of Adonai is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
8 Kachapa, napan nahilna ngaijin lang, nanun nahilna jong sang teijin,
My son, sh'ma ·hear obey· your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching:
9 Ijeh inem itileh, amanin nahilna jouse khotona lallukhuh’a nakikhuh ding, chule jana na ngong changa khivui oa naki’o ding ahi.
for they will be a garland to chen ·grace· your head, and chains around your neck.
10 Kachapa michonseten jol lhah ding nago jong leu, athu’u nangai lou hel ding ahi.
My son, if sinners entice you, don’t consent.
11 Amahon na henga ahin seidiu, “Hung’in cheu hitin mihem thadin ngah-ute; suhkhel neilou ho jong chu inop chabep uva ibol diuvin nga lhih tauhite.
If they say, “Come with us, Let’s lay in wait for blood; let’s lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;
12 Ahing changa lhankhuh in aval lhum’a abah gam bang in, eihon jong ahing in bahgam-u hitin, thina kokhuh’a lhalutsa bang in, apum chang in val lhum gam tauhite. (Sheol h7585)
let’s swallow them up alive like Sheol ·Place of the dead·, and whole, like those who go down into the pit (of Abbadon, the unrighteous side of Sheol). (Sheol h7585)
13 Chuteng thil thupi tahtah imu diu, mi thil lelo ichomdoh hou chu in dimset’a isit diu ahi.
We’ll find all valuable wealth. We’ll fill our houses with plunder.
14 Keiho kom’a chan hung neijin lang, sumdip kikhong in sum khol khom u-hite, tia ahinsei diu ahi.”
You shall cast your lot among us. We’ll all have one purse.”
15 Hinlah kachapa, amaho toh kilhon khom hih hel’in, amaho lam lhahna akon chun kidalse jon,
My son, don’t walk on the path with them. Keep your foot from their path,
16 Ajeh chu amaho thilpha lou bolnan akeng-u ajangkhai in, gangtah in thisan aso jiuve.
for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.
17 Hijeh chun vachan ao nading thang kikam amu teng, pannabei asoh jitai.
For in vain is the net spread in the sight of any bird:
18 Hitobang miho hin ama hole amaho thisan sodohna dinga midang achan lhih jiu ahin, amaho thina ding jenga bou mi achan jiu ahi.
but these lay wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.
19 Koi hileh hitobang pumtho changa ama phatchomna ding ngaito bang bep ahiuvin, thil lelo neipa ahivang in thina atoh jitan ahi.
So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain. It takes away the life of its owners.
20 Chihna hin lamlen lah’a kho asamjin, japi lah jenga jong ogin kithong tah’in apeng jin ahi.
Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares.
21 Chihna hi lamlen dunga jong apeng jah jeng in, khopi kelkot mai’a jong thu aphong doh jin ahi.
She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words:
22 “Vo mihemte, itih chanpi mihem mei meiya hin ding nagot u-ham, anop nop’a paohon itih chanpi michunga nanop pao diu ham? Angol hon itih chanpi hetna nathet diu hitam?
“How long, you simple ones, will you 'ahav ·affectionately love· thoughtless living? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge?
23 Kathumop nahi ngai phau vin, ajeh chu keiman nangho dinga kalunggel ngaito kasei ding, chuteng kathuseija kon chihna nalam doh diu ahi.
Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.
24 Ijeh inem itileh keiman nang ho kakou un, nang hon nei donbut deh pouve. Kakhut ban in kahin sang uvin, iman jong nagel deh pouvin ahi.
Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;
25 Kahilna abonchan nadonse pouvin, kagihsal na jouse jong khatcha nadonse pouvin ahi.
but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;
26 Hijeh chun hahsatna dinmun nalhun teng uleh kanuisat diu, manthah nan nalhun den tengu jong leh kanuisat ding nahiuve.
I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you;
27 Huipi hattah banga manthahnan nahin lhun khum diu, chimpei banga hahsatna nahin todiu, chule gim le hesoh hoise tah in nalhun dendiu hijongleh ka khohsah louhel ding nahi tauve.
when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come on you.
28 Hinlah amahon panpi ngaija eihin kou-diu, keiman kadonbut dehlou diu, gil tah’a eihol jing diu, ahin eihol doh jou deh lou diu ahi.
Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;
29 Ajeh chu amahon hetna athet uvin, Pakai gin ding jong alheng deh pouvin ahi.
because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Adonai.
30 Amahon kahilna asang pouvin, kagih salna jouse jong pannabei aso tauvin ahi.
They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof.
31 Chule amahon anop chabep uva atoh-gau aneh diu, thilpha lou angaito jouseu thao twi banga jol lha diu ahi.
Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes.
32 Ajeh chu amahon lamdih jot louvin, milham ho chunga thina alhung lo jitan, lungthim beiho kiletsahna chu amaho manthahna asoh jin ahi.
For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.
33 Koi hileh kasei phatah’a ngaija chun lungmonna anei ding, gin ding neiloua lungmong sel’a cheng jing ding ahi.”
But whoever sh'ma ·hears obeys· me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.”
