< Daniel 1 >

1 Judah manghai Jehoiakim kah a ram, a kum thum vaengah Babylon manghai Nebukhanezar te cet tih Jerusalem te a taengah a dum.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, came Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, against Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2 Te vaengah ka Boeipa loh Judah manghai Jehoiakim neh Pathen im kah hnopai ca te Nebukhanezar kut ah a paek. Te dongah te rhoek te Shinar khohmuen kah a pathen im la a khuen tih hnopai te a pathen kah thakvoh im ah a khueh.
And the Lord gave Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure-house of his god.
3 Te phoeiah manghai loh amah kah imkhoem puei Ashpenaz te Israel ca lamkah neh mangpa tiingan lamkah khaw, angrhaeng rhoek lamkah khaw khuen hamla a thui pah.
And the king commanded Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the sons of Israel of the king's race, and of the princes,
4 Te vaengah a taengah a lolhmaih pakhat khaw aka om pawh camoe rhoek neh a mueimae aka then, cueihnah cungkuem neh aka cangbam, mingnah aka ming, cangnah aka yakming neh amih taengah thadueng aka om tah manghai bawkim ah om ham neh amih te Khalden ca neh ol tukkil hamla a khueh.
youths in whom was no blemish, and well favored, and skilful in all wisdom, and having knowledge and intelligence and strength, to stand as servants in the king's palace, and be taught the writing and the language of the Chaldaeans.
5 Manghai loh amih ham tah a hnin hnin ah a hmuethma a khueh pah. Manghai buh neh a buhkoknah misurtui paek tih kum thum khuiah amih te pantai sak ham, a tloihsoi ah manghai mikhmuh ah pai sak ha a uen.
And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's food, and of the wine which he drank; so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand as servants before the king.
6 Amih lakli ah Judah koca lamkah Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael neh Azariah om.
Now among these were, of the sons of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
7 Amih te imkhoem mangpa loh ming a paek tih Daniel te Belteshazzar la, Hananiah te Shadrakh la, Mishael te Meshakh la, Azariah te Abednego la a khueh pah.
And the prince of the eunuchs gave them other names. To Daniel he gave the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.
8 Tedae Daniel long tah manghai buh neh, a buhkoknah misurtui neh a nok uh pawt ham a lungbuei ah a khueh. Te dongah a nok pawt ham imkhoem mangpa te a dawt.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
9 Pathen loh Daniel te imkhoem mangpa mikhmuh ah sitlohnah neh haidamnaha paek rhoe a paek.
And God gave Daniel favor and kindness from the prince of the eunuchs.
10 Tedae imkhoem mangpa loh Daniel te, “Kai khaw ka boei manghai te ka rhih ta. Anih long ni na caak na buhkoknah he hang khueh. Camoe kah na omngaihnah lakah balae tih na maelhmai te hmai aka tal la a hmuh eh? Ka lu he manghai taengah nan mop coeng,” a ti nah.
And the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink; for he might see your faces in worse condition than the youths of your age; then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.
11 Te vaengah Daniel loh buhtaem, Anih te Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael neh Azariah soah imkhoem mangpa la a khueh taengah,
Then said Daniel to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 “Na sal rhoek he hnin rha khuiah n'noemcai mai lamtah ankak mah kaimih m'pae mai saeh. Ka caak uh khaw tui neh ka yun uh eh.
Try thy servants ten days, and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
13 Te phoeiah kaimih kah mueimae neh manghai buh aka ca camoe rhoek kah mueimae te namah mikhmuh ah tueng saeh. Te vaengkah na hmuh bangla na sal rhoek taengah saii,” a ti nah.
Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenances of the youths that eat of the portion of the king's meat; and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
14 Te dongah hekah ol bangla amih te a rhoi tih hnin rha khuiah amih te a noem.
And he consented to them in this matter, and tried them ten days.
15 Hnin rha a thoknah dongah amih kah mueimae te a then la a sawt. Te vaengah manghai buh aka ca camoe boeih lakah a pumsa toitup.
And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the portion of the king's meat.
16 Te dongah buhtaem loh amih kah buh neh a buhkoknah misur te a puen tih amih te ankak a paek.
So the steward took away the portion of their meat, and the wine which they should drink, and gave them pulse.
17 Tedae amih pali, camoe rhoek tah Pathen loh a taengah cangnah dongah cabu neh cueihnah boeih te cangbam hamla a paek. Te dongah Daniel loh mangthui neh mueimang te boeih a yakming.
And God gave these four youths knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18 Khohnin kuepnah a pha vaengah amih khuen hamla manghai loh a thui pah tih amih imkhoem mangpa loh Nebukhanezar mikhmuh ah a khuen.
And at the end of the days, when the king had commanded him to bring them before him, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Manghai te amih taengah a voek vaengah Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael neh Azariah bang he amih boeih khui lamloh hmu pawh. Te dongah amih tah manghai mikhmuh ah pai uh.
And the king conversed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore they stood as servants before the king.
20 Olka cungkuem dongah cueihnah neh yakmingnah amih lamkah te manghai loh a cae vaengah amih tah a ram pum kah khungvatuk neh hmayuep boeih lakah a kut parha la a hmuh.
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the scribes and magicians that were in all his realm.
21 Daniel tah manghai Cyrus kah a kum khat nah hil om.
And Daniel lived even to the first year of Cyrus the king.
