2 Samuel 5

Then came all the tribes of Israel to David to Hebron, and spoke, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

Even aforetime, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel; and Jehovah said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over Israel.

3 Israel patong boeih loh Hebron la manghai te a paan uh. Te vaengah manghai David loh amih te Hebron ah moi a boh pah tih BOEIPA mikhmuh ah David te Israel sokah manghai la a koelh uh.

And all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah; and they anointed David king over Israel.

4 David a manghai vaengah kum sawmthum lo ca coeng tih kum sawmli khuiah manghai van.

David was thirty years old when he began to reign; he reigned forty years.

5 Hebron ah Judah te kum rhih hla rhuk a manghai thil tih Jerusalem ah Israel neh Judah pum te kum sawmthum kum thum a manghai thil.

In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

6 Manghai neh a hlang rhoek loh Jerusalem khohmuen khosa kung Jebusi te a caeh uh thil hatah David te a voek tih, “Hela na kun mahpawh, hela David kun boel saeh a ti coeng atah mikdael rhoek neh aka khaem rhoek long mah nang te n'haek thai,” a ti nah.

And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land; and they spoke to David, saying, Thou shalt not come in hither, but the blind and the lame will drive thee back; as much as to say, David will not come in hither.

7 Tedae David loh Zion rhalvong David khopuei te vik a loh.

But David took the stronghold of Zion, which is the city of David.

8 Te khohnin ah David loh, “Aka khaem khaw, mikdael khaw, khat khat long khaw Jebusi aka ngawn tah tuikun khaw pha saeh,” a ti. Te khaw David kah a hinglu a hmuhuet, la a hmuhuet uh tih mikdael khokhaem loh, “Im khuila ha kun boel saeh,” a ti uh dongah ni.

And David said on that day, Whoever smites the Jebusites and gets up to the watercourse, and the lame and the blind hated of David's soul...! Therefore they say, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

So David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from the Millo and inward.

And David became continually greater; and Jehovah the God of hosts was with him.

11 Tyre manghai Khiram loh David taengla puencawn a tueih tih lamphai thing, thing kutthai, pangbueng dongkah ham lungto kutthai neh David ham im a sak uh.

And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, and carpenters, and masons; and they built David a house.

12 Israel sokah manghai la BOEIPA loh anih a thoh khaw, a pilnam Israel kong ah a ram a phoh te khaw David loh a ming.

And David perceived that Jehovah had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom because of his people Israel.

13 David loh yupuei yula muep a loh dongah Hebron lamkah Jerusalem la a pawk vaengah David ham capa neh canu khawk a sak pauh.

And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron; and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.

14 Jerusalem ah anih ham aka thaang rhoek a ming rhoek tah Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

And these are the names of those that were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

15 Ibhar, Elishua neh, Nepheg neh Japhia,

and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

16 Elishama, Eliada neh Eliphelet.

and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphelet.

17 Israel sokah manghai la David a koelh uh te Philisti rhoek loh a yaak uh vaengah David mae hamla Philisti rhoek boeih cet uh. Tedae David loh a yaak tih rhalvong la suntla thuk.

And the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, and all the Philistines went up to seek David; and David heard [of it], and went down to the stronghold.

18 Te vaengah Philisti rhoek ha pawk uh tih Rapha kol ah khawk taai uh.

And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

19 David loh BOEIPA te a dawt tih, “Philisti te ka paan a yaa, amih te ka kut dongah nan tloeng aya?” a ti nah hatah BOEIPA loh David te, “Cet! Philisti te na kut dongah kam paek rhoe kam paek ni,” a ti nah.

And David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? wilt thou give them into my hand? And Jehovah said to David, Go up; for I will certainly give the Philistines into thy hand.

20 David te Baalperazim la cet tih amih te a ngawn. Te vaengah David loh, “Ka thunkha rhoek te BOEIPA loh ka mikhmuh ah tui puut bangla a va coeng,” a ti. Te dongah tekah hmuen te a ming Baalperazim la a khue.

And David came to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there; and he said, Jehovah has broken in upon mine enemies before me, as the breaking forth of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-perazim.

21 Te vaengah a hnoo uh sut amih muei te David neh a hlang rhoek loh a koh uh.

And they left their images there, and David and his men took them away.

22 Te phoeiah a rhaep la Philisti rhoek koep cet uh tih Rapha kol ah taai uh.

And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

23 Te vaengah David loh BOEIPA te a dawt hatah, “Cet boeh, a hnuk longah vael lamtah, amih te tikti rhaldan ah khoep cuuk.

And David inquired of Jehovah; and he said, Thou shalt not go up; turn round behind them and come upon them opposite the mulberry-trees.

24 Tikti soi ah haeksak ol na yaak la, na yaak coeng atah cuuk thil laeh. Philisti lambong tloek ham te na hmaiah BOEIPA cet coeng,” a ti nah.

And it shall be, when thou hearest a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry-trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself; for then will Jehovah have gone forth before thee, to smite the army of the Philistines.

25 BOEIPA loh amah a uen bangla David loh a saii tih Philisti te a tloek tih Geba lamloh Gezer la pawk.

And David did so, as Jehovah had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou comest to Gezer.
