< Luka 12 >

1 To tiah kroek laek ai kaminawk nawnto amkhueng o moe, maeto hoi maeto ang et o naah, anih mah a hnukbang kaminawk khaeah, Hmaloe koekah, angsah thaih Farasinawk ih taeh thung hoiah acoe oh.
Meanwhile the people had gathered in thousands, so that they trod upon one another, when Jesus, addressing himself to his disciples, began by saying to them: “Be on your guard against the leaven — that is, the hypocrisy — of the Pharisees.
2 Amtueng thaih han ai ah khuk ih hmuen tidoeh om ai; panoek thaih han ai ah, hawk ih hmuen tidoeh om mak ai.
There is nothing, however covered up, which will not be uncovered, nor anything kept secret which will not become known.
3 To pongah khoving ah na thuih o ih lok to khodai ah thaih o tih; imthung ah naa ah thuih duem ih lok to imphu nuiah taphong o tih.
Hence all that you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear, within closed doors, will be proclaimed upon the housetops.
4 Ampuinawk kang thuih o, Takpum paduek pacoengah, tidoeh sah thai ai kaminawk to zii o hmah.
To you who are my friends I say, Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but after that can do no more.
5 Toe na zit o han koi to kang thuih o coek han: a hum pacoengah, hell thungah va thaih, Anih to zii oh; ue, kang thuih o, Anih to zii oh. (Geenna g1067)
I will show you of whom you should be afraid. Be afraid of him who, after killing you, has the power to fling you into the Pit. Yes, I say, be afraid of him. (Geenna g1067)
6 Parit tavaa pangato phoisa hnetto hoiah zawh o na ai maw? Toe hnetto thung ih maeto mataeng doeh Sithaw mah pahnet ai.
Are not five sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them has escaped God’s notice.
7 Na lu nui ih sam mataeng doeh kroek boih. To pongah zii o hmah: nangcae loe parit tavaa pongah atho na oh o kue.
No, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
8 Kang thuih o, Mi kawbaktih doeh kaminawk hmaa ah kai angdoe haih kami loe, Sithaw ih van kaminawk hmaa ah kami Capa mah anih to angdoe haih toeng tih:
Every one, I tell you, who shall acknowledge me before his fellow men, the Son of Man, also, will acknowledge before God’s angels;
9 toe kaminawk hmaa ah kai pahnawt kami loe, Sithaw ih van kaminawk hmaa ah anih to ka pahnawt toeng han.
but he, who disowns me before his fellow men, will be altogether disowned before God’s angels.
10 Mi kawbaktih doeh kami Capa kasae thui kami loe, tahmenhaih om tih: toe Kacai Muithla kasae thui kami loe tahmenhaih om mak ai.
Every one who shall say anything against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but for him who slanders the Holy Spirit there will be no forgiveness.
11 Sineko ah lokcaek kaminawk hoi ukkungnawk hmaa ah ang hoih o naah, kawbangmaw lok ka pathim han, to tih ai boeh loe timaw ka pathim han, to tih ai boeh loe timaw ka thuih han, tito mawn o hmah:
Whenever they take you before the Synagogue Courts or the magistrates or other authorities, do not be anxious as to how you will defend yourselves, or what your defence will be, or what you will say;
12 to atue nathuem roe ah na thuih han ih lok to Kacai Muithla mah na patuk tih, tiah a naa.
for the Holy Spirit will show you at the moment what you ought to say.”
13 Amkhueng kaminawk thung ih maeto mah anih khaeah, Patukkung, kam nawk mah qawk ang pazet hanah na thui paeh, tiah a naa.
“Teacher,” a man in the crowd said to Jesus, “tell my brother to share the property with me.”
14 Toe Anih mah to kami khaeah, Kami, mi mah maw nanghnik salakah lokcaek han ih, to tih ai boeh loe qawk pazet hanah ang suek? tiah a naa.
But Jesus said to him: “Man, who made me a judge or an arbiter between you?”
15 Jesu mah nihcae khaeah, Acoe oh, kamthlai hmoek koehhaih to ayae oh: kami hinghaih loe a tawnh ih hmuenmaenawk nuiah amha ai, tiah a naa.
And then he added: “Take care to keep yourselves free from every form of covetousness; for even in the height of his prosperity a man’s true Life does not depend on what he has.”
16 To pacoengah anih mah hae patahhaih lok hae nihcae khaeah thuih pae: angraeng maeto ih lawk loe thingthai qumpo paroeai tacawt:
Then Jesus told them this parable — “There was once a rich man whose land was very fertile;
17 to pongah anih mah palung thungah, Thingthai qumpo suekhaih ahmuen ka tawn ai boeh, timaw ka sak han? tiah a poek.
and he began to ask himself ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?
18 To pacoengah anih mah, Hae tiah ka sak han: tapupnawk to ka phraek moe, kalen kueah ka sak han; to ahmuen ah thingthai qumpo hoi hmuenmaenawk to ka suek boih han, tiah a thuih.
This is what I will do,’ he said; ‘I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and store all my grain and my goods in them;
19 Ka hinghaih pakhra khaeah, Kahing pakhra, saning kasawk ah patoh hanah hmuenmaenawk na patung mang boeh; kamongah om ah loe, caa ah, nae ah loe, kanawm ah khosah ah, tiah ka naa han, tiah a poek.
and I will say to myself, Now you have plenty of good things put by for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself.’
20 Toe Sithaw mah anih khaeah, Nang kamthu, vai qum ah na hinghaih pakhra to dueh tih boeh: duek pacoengah to hmuenmaenawk to mi mah maw toep tih, tiah a naa.
But God said to the man ‘Fool! This very night your life is being demanded; and as for all you have prepared — who will have it?’
21 Angmah taham ah hmuenmae patung kami loe to tiah oh, anih loe Sithaw ah angraeng kami na ai ni, tiah a naa.
So it is with those who lay by wealth for themselves and are not rich to the glory of God.”
22 Anih mah a hnukbang kaminawk khaeah, To pongah kang thuih o, Timaw ka caak han; takpum hanah, timaw kang khuk han, tiah na hing hanah mawn o hmah.
And Jesus said to his disciples: “That is why I say to you, Do not be anxious about the life here — what you can get to eat; nor yet about your body — what you can get to wear.
23 Hinghaih loe caaknaek pongah lokpui kue, takpum loe khukbuen pongah lokpui kue.
For life is more than food, and the body than its clothes.
24 Pangaahnawk to poek o noek ah: nihcae loe cangti haeh o ai, cang doeh aat o ai; cang suekhaih im hoi tapup doeh tawn o ai; toe Sithaw mah nihcae to pacah: nangcae loe tavaanawk pongah atho na oh o kue na ai maw?
Think of the ravens — they neither sow nor reap; they have neither storehouse nor barn; and yet God feeds them! And how much more precious are you than birds!
25 Nangcae thungah mi mah maw mawnh pongah a hinghaih dong maeto thap thaih?
But which of you, by being anxious, can prolong his life a moment?
26 Hmuen tetta mataeng doeh na sah o thai ai to mah, tipongah kalah hmuennawk pongah mawnhaih na tawnh o loe?
And, if you cannot do even the smallest thing, why be anxious about other things?
27 Lily pawknawk kawbangmaw qoeng o tahang, tito poek o noek ah: nihcae loe toksah o ai, pathlah doeh kae o ai; toe kang thuih o, Solomon mah a lensawkhaih boih hoi amthoep naah hae apawk thung ih apawk maeto mataeng doeh pha ai vop.
Think of the lilies, and how they grow. They neither toil nor spin; yet, I tell you, even Solomon in all his splendour was not robed like one of these.
28 Vaihni loe lawk ah oh, khawnbang ah loe hmai thungah vah han kaom, phroh mataeng doeh Sithaw mah to tih khoek to khukbuen hoiah pathoep nahaeloe; Aw tanghaih tamsi kaminawk, nangcae taoe cae loe kawkruk maw anih mah khukbuen hoiah pathoep tih?
If, even in the field, God so clothes the grass which is living to-day and to-morrow will be thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O men of little faith!
29 Timaw ka caak moe, ka naek han, tiah pakrong o hmah, palunghaenghaih doeh tawn o hmah.
And you — do not be always seeking what you can get to eat or what you can get to drink; and do not waver.
30 Long kaminawk mah ni to baktih hmuennawk to pakrong o: hae hmuennawk nang toeng o, tito nangcae Ampa mah panoek.
These are the things for which all the nations of the world are seeking, and your Father knows that you need them.
31 Toe nangcae loe Sithaw mah siangpahrang ah ukhaih prae to pakrong oh; hae hmuennawk boih hae na thap pae tih.
No, seek his Kingdom, and these things shall be added for you.
32 Tamsi tuucaanawk, zii o hmah; nangcae Ampa mah prae to nangcae khae paek han koeh.
So do not be afraid, my little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the Kingdom.
33 Na tawnh o ih hmuennawk to zaw oh loe, kamtang kaminawk khaeah paek oh; nangmacae hanah kaprawn thai ai phoisa bawm to sah oh, kamro thai ai, kamqu mah pha thai ai moe, karaa mah doeh caa thai ai, van prae ah tangka to patung oh.
Sell what belongs to you, and give in charity. Make yourselves purses that will not wear out — an inexhaustible treasure in Heaven, where no thief comes near, or moth works ruin.
34 Na hmuenmae ohhaih ahmuen ah, na palungthin doeh om tih.
For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.
35 Kaengkaeh angzaeng oh loe, hmaiim pa-aang o coek ah;
Make yourselves ready, with your lamps alight;
36 Anih angzoh moe, thok takhuek naah, nihcae mah anih han thok paong pae phrat hanah, zu paluemhaih poihkung hoiah kamlaem, angmacae ih angraeng kazing kaminawk baktiah om oh.
and be like men who are waiting for their Master’s return from his wedding, so that, when he comes and knocks, they may open the door for him at once.
37 Angraeng angzoh naah iip ai ah kazing tamnanawk loe tahamhoih o: loktang kang thuih o, anih loe kaengkaeh angzaeng ueloe, buhcaak hanah nihcae to anghnusak tih, anih loe angzo ueloe, nihcae to caaknaek paek tih.
Happy are those servants whom, on his return, the Master will find watching. I tell you that he will make himself ready, and bid them take their places at table, and will come and wait upon them.
38 Atue hnetto naah maw, to tih ai boeh loe thumto naah maw, angraeng angzoh naah a mikhnuk ah amsakcoek tamnanawk loe tahamhoih o.
Whether it is late at night, or in the early morning that he comes, if he finds all as it should be, then happy are they.
39 Toe hae hae panoek oh, im tawnkung mah natuek naah maw kamqu angzo tih, tiah panoek nahaeloe, a im amrosak han ai ah, anih mah toep tih.
This you do know, that, had the owner of the house known at what time the thief was coming, he would have been on the watch, and would not have let his house be broken into.
40 To pongah nangcae doeh amsak o coek ah: Kami Capa loe na poek o ai ih atue ah angzo tih, tiah a naa.
Do you also prepare, for when you are least expecting him the Son of Man will come.”
41 Piter mah anih khaeah, Angraeng, na thuih ih patahhaih lok loe kaicae han ih maw, to tih ai boeh loe kaminawk boih han ih? tiah a naa.
“Master,” said Peter, “are you telling this parable with reference to us or to every one?”
42 Angraeng mah, Atue mah phak naah kalah tamnanawk to buh pacah moe, angraeng mah imthung ukkung ah suek han ih oep kaom palungha im khenzawnkung loe mi maw?
“Who, then,” replied the Master, “is that trustworthy steward, the careful man, who will be placed by his master over his establishment, to give them their rations at the proper time?
43 Angmah ih angraeng angzoh naah a mikhnuk ah toksah, tamna loe tahamhoih.
Happy will that servant be whom his master, when he comes home, shall find doing this.
44 Loktang kang thuih o, to kami loe angraeng mah tawnh ih hmuennawk boih nuiah ukkung ah suem tih.
His master, I tell you, will put him in charge of the whole of his property.
45 Toe to tamna mah, Ka angraeng loe angzo hnai mak ai, tiah a palung thung hoiah poek moe, tamna nongpa hoi nongpatanawk to a boh, a naek moe, a caak pacoengah, mu paqui nahaeloe,
But should that servant say to himself ‘My master is a long time coming,’ and begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,
46 to tamna ih angraeng loe anih mah poek ai ih ani, panoek ai ih niah angzo tih, anih to takroek pat ueloe, tanghaih tawn ai kaminawk hoi nawnto a hak han koi ahmuen to paek tih.
that servant’s master will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour of which he is unaware, and will flog him severely and assign him his place among the untrustworthy.
47 Angmah ih angraeng koehhaih to panoek, toe amsakcoek ai, angraeng koehhaih baktiah toksah ai tamna loe, bop pak palak tih.
The servant who knows his master’s wishes and yet does not prepare and act accordingly will receive many lashes;
48 Toe angraeng koehhaih sak han panoek ai pongah hmuen sah pazae tamna loe, kana parai ah bop mak ai. Mi kawbaktih doeh kapop ah paek ih kami khaeah, kapop ah hni tih: kapop ah ap ih kami khaeah, kapop kue ah hni o tih.
while one who does not know his master’s wishes, but acts so as to deserve a flogging, will receive but few. From every one to whom much has been given much will be expected, and from the man to whom much has been entrusted the more will be demanded.
49 Long nuiah hmai pakhrak han ih ni kang zoh; hmai kangh boih ai ah loe ka koehhaih akoep ai.
I came to cast fire upon the earth; and what more can I wish, if it is already kindled?
50 Toe tuinuemhaih paek hanah ka tawn vop; to tiah akoep ai karoek to kawkrukmaw ka patang vop tih!
There is a baptism that I must undergo, and how great is my distress until it is over!
51 Long nuiah angdaehhaih ohsak hanah kang zoh, tiah na poek o maw? Kang thuih o, to tiah na ai ni; tapraek han ih ni kang zoh:
Do you think that I am here to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but to cause division.
52 vaihi hoi kamtong pangato kaom imthung takoh to ampraek o tih, thumto hoi hnetto, hnetto hoi thumto misa ah angcoeng o tih.
For from this time, if there are five people in a house, they will be divided, three against two, and two against three.
53 Ampa hoi a capa, amno hoi a canu, amni hoi langah, misa ah angcoeng o ueloe, ampraek o tih, tiah a naa.
‘Father will be opposed to son and son to father, mother to daughter and daughter to mother, mother-in-law to her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law to her mother-in-law.’”
54 Anih mah kaminawk khaeah, Niduem bang hoi angthawk tahang tamai to na hnuk o naah, nangcae mah, Kho angzo tih, tiah na thuih o; na thuih o ih baktih toengah, kho angzoh.
And to the people Jesus said: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once ‘There is a storm coming,’ and come it does.
55 Aloih bang ih takhi song naah loe, nangcae mah, Bae tih, tiah na thuih o; na thuih o ih baktih toengah oh.
And when you see that the wind is in the south, you say ‘It will be burning hot,’ and so it proves.
56 Nangcae angsah thaih kaminawk! Van hoi long hma ah kaom hmuen kawng loe na panoek o; toe tikhoe vaihi thuem ah kaom atue loe na panoek o ai loe?
Hypocrites! You know how to judge of the earth and the sky; how is it, then, that you cannot judge of this time?
57 Ue, tipongah katoeng hmuen sak hanah na panoek o thai ai loe?
Why do not you yourselves decide what is right?
58 Na misa hoi nawnto lokcaekhaih im ah na caeh hoi naah, loklam ah anih hoi angdaehhaih to sah ah; to tih ai nahaeloe anih mah lokcaekkung khaeah na hoi tih, lokcaekkung mah angraeng khaeah na caeh haih ueloe, angraeng mah thongim thungah na va tih.
When, for instance, you are going with your opponent before a magistrate, on your way to the court do your best to be quit of him; for fear that he should drag you before the judge, then the judge will hand you over to the bailiff of the court, and the bailiff throw you into prison.
59 Kang thuih o, rong han koi laiba na kii o ai karoek to na loih o mak ai, tiah a naa.
You will not, I tell you, come out until you have paid the very last farthing.”
