< Johan 12 >

1 Misong loihhaih poih phak tomhaih ni tarukto naah, Jesu loe kadueh Lazaru pathawkhaih Bethani avang to phak.
Six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead, was living.
2 To avang ah nihcae mah anih han duembuh caakhaih sak pae o; Martha mah caaknaek to thongh pae: toe Lazaru loe caboi nuiah Anih hoi nawnto anghnut.
There a supper was given in honour at which Martha waited, while Lazarus was one of those present at the table.
3 To naah Meri mah, atho kana parai hmuihoih tui tabu maeto lak moe, Jesu ih khok to bawh pae pacoengah, a sam hoiah huk pae: to naah imthung ah hmuihoih tui to koi.
So Mary took a pound of choice spikenard perfume of great value, and anointed the feet of Jesus with it, and then wiped them with her hair. The whole house was filled with the scent of the perfume.
4 To pacoengah a hnukbang kaminawk thung ih maeto, Anih angphat taak han kaom Simon capa, Juda Iskariot mah,
One of the disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was about to betray Jesus, asked:
5 tikhoe kamtang kaminawk na paek hanah hae hmuihoih tui hae phoisa cumvai thumto hoiah na zaw ai loe? tiah a naa.
“Why was not this perfume sold for thirty pounds, and the money given to poor people?”
6 Kamtang kaminawk abomh han koeh pongah anih mah hae lok hae thuih ih na ai ni; anih loe kamqu ah oh, phoisa pakuemkung ah oh moe, phoisa to angmah han patoh kami ah oh pongah ni to tiah lok a thuih.
He said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and, being in charge of the purse, used to take what was put in it.
7 Jesu mahnongpata loe angmah hmawk ah om nasoe: Kai aphumhaih ni han ih ni hae hmuihoih tui hae a suek.
“Let her alone,” said Jesus, “that she may keep it till the day when my body is being prepared for burial.
8 Kamtang kaminawk loe nangcae hoi nawnto oh o poe; toe Kai loe nangcae hoi nawnto ka om poe mak ai, tiah a naa.
The poor you always have with you, but you will not always have me.”
9 Anih toah oh, tiah Judahnawk mah panoek o naah, Jesu hnuk han ih khue ai ah, duekhaih thung hoi anih mah pathawk ih Lazaru doeh hnuk han koeh o pongah, paroeai kaminawk angzoh o.
Now great numbers of the Jews found out that Jesus was at Bethany; and they came there, not solely on his account, but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 Kalen koek qaima mah Lazaru doeh hum hanah pacaeng;
The Chief Priests, however, plotted to put Lazarus, as well as Jesus, to death,
11 Lazaru kawng pongah paroeai Judah kaminawk mah qaima to caeh o taak moe, Jesu tanghaih to tawnh o.
because it was owing to him that many of the Jews had left them, and were becoming believers in Jesus.
12 Khawnbang phak naah loe, poihkung ah angzo paroeai kaminawk mah, Jesu Jerusalem ah angzoh, tiah thaih o.
On the following day great numbers of people who had come to the Festival, hearing that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem, took palm-branches,
13 Bawksawk qam hoi kanghmong thing tanghang to sin o moe, anih dawt hanah caeh o, Hosanna: Angraeng hmin hoi angzo Israel Siangpahrang loe tahamhoihaih om nasoe, tiah hang o.
and went out to meet him, shouting as they went: “‘God save Him! Blessed is He who Comes in the name of the Lord’ — The King of Israel!”
14 Jesu mah laa hrang to hnuk naah, a nuiah angthueng;
Having found a young ass, Jesus seated himself on it, in accordance with the passage of Scripture —
15 Zion canu, zii hmah: khenah, na Siangpahrang loe laa hrang nuiah angthueng moe, angzoh, tiah tarik ih oh.
‘Fear not, Daughter of Zion; Behold, thy King is coming to thee, Sitting on the foal of an ass.’
His disciples did not understand all this at first; but, when Jesus had been exalted, then they remembered that these things had been said of him in Scripture, and that they had done these things for him.
17 Anih mah Lazaru to taprong thung hoiah kawk moe, duekhaih thung hoiah pathawk let naah kaom paroeai kaminawk loe, Anih hnukung ah oh o.
Meanwhile the people who were with him, when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, were telling what they had seen.
18 Anih mah dawnrai hmuen sak, tito nihcae mah thaih o naah, anih hnuk hanah caeh o.
This, indeed, was why the crowd met him — because people had heard that he had given this sign of his mission.
19 To pongah Farasinawk mah kawbang doeh na sah o thai ai boeh, khen oh, long loe Anih hnukah ni caeh boeh, tiah a thuih o.
So the Pharisees said to one another: “You see that you are gaining nothing! Why, all the world has run after him!”
20 Poih tue ah Sithaw bok han angzo kaminawk thungah Griknawk doeh athum o toeng:
Among those who were going up to worship at the Festival were some Greeks,
21 to kaminawk loe Kalili prae Bethsaida avang ah om kami, Philip khaeah angzoh o moe, Patukkung, Jesu hnuk han ka koeh o, tiah tahmenhaih hnik o.
who went to Philip of Bethsaida in Galilee, and said: “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
22 Philip loe caeh moe, Andru khaeah thuih pae: to pacoengah Andru hoi Philip Jesu khaeah caeh hoi moe, thuih pae hoi let.
Philip went and told Andrew, and then together they went and told Jesus.
23 Jesu mah nihcae khaeah, Kami Capa pakoehhaih atue loe phak boeh.
This was his reply — “The time has come for the Son of Man to be exalted.
24 Loktang to, loktang ah, kang thuih o, Cangti loe long ah krak moe, dueh ai nahaeloe, angmah toengroeng ah ni oh: toe a duek naah loe, athaih paroeai athaih.
In truth I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains solitary; but, if it dies, it becomes fruitful.
25 Mi kawbaktih doeh a hinghaih palung kami loe, anghmaa tih; hae long nuiah a hinghaih hnuma kami loe dungzan hinghaih to toep tih. (aiōnios g166)
He who loves his life loses it; while he who hates his life in the present world shall preserve it for Immortal Life. (aiōnios g166)
26 Mi kawbaktih doeh Ka tok sah kami loe, Ka hnukah bang nasoe; Ka ohhaih ahmuen ah, Ka tamna doeh om toeng tih: Ka tok sah kami loe Kam Pa mah pakoeh tih.
If a man is ready to serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant shall be also. If a man is ready to serve me, my Father will honour him.
27 Vaihi ka poekhaih angpho; timaw ka thuih han? Pa, hae atue thung hoiah na pahlong ah: toe hae tiah oh han ih ni, hae atue ah kang zoh.
Now I am distressed at heart and what can I say? Father, bring me safe through this hour — yet it was for this very reason that I came to this hour —
28 Pa, na hmin to pakoeh ah, tiah a naa. To naah van hoiah, Ka pakoeh hmaek boeh, Ka pakoeh let han vop, tiah lok to angzoh.
Father, honour thine own name.” At this there came a voice from Heaven, which said: “I have already honoured it, and I will honour it again.”
29 To ahmuen ah angdoe kaminawk mah, To lok to thaih o naah, Khopazih, tiah thuih o: kalah kaminawk mah loe, Van kami mah lok a thuih pae, tiah thuih o.
The crowd of bystanders, who heard the sound, said that it was thundering. Others said: “An angel has been speaking to him.”
30 Jesu mah hae lok loe kai han angzo ai, nangcae hanah ni angzoh.
“It was not for my sake that the voice came,” said Jesus, “but for yours.
31 Hae long loe vaihi lokcaek ah oh boeh: hae long angraeng haekhaih to om tih.
Now this world is on its trial. Now the Spirit that is ruling this world shall be driven out;
32 Kai long ranui ah atoengh tahang naah, kaminawk boih kaimah khaeah ka zaeh han, tiah a naa.
and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, shall draw all men to myself.”
33 Hae lok loe, anih kawbangmaw due tih, tiah thuih koehhaih ih ni.
By these words he indicated what death he was destined to die.
34 To naah paroeai kaminawk mah anih khaeah, Kri loe dungzan ah caak poe tih, tiah kaalok mah thuih ih lok to ka thaih o: nangmah loe kawbangmaw, Kami Capa to ranui ah bang o tih, tiah na thuih, hae Kami Capa loe mi maw? tiah pathim pae o. (aiōn g165)
“We,” replied the people, “have learned from the Law that the ‘Christ is to remain for ever’; how is it, then, that you say that the Son of Man must be ‘lifted up’ Who is this ‘Son of Man’?” (aiōn g165)
35 To naah Jesu mah nihcae khaeah, Aanghaih loe nawnetta thungah ni nangcae hoi nawn to oh. Aanghaih na tawnh o naah caeh oh, to tih ai nahaeloe nangcae nuiah vinghaih pha moeng tih: khoving thung caeh kami loe naa ah maw a caeh, tito panoek ai.
“Only a little while longer,” answered Jesus, “will you have the Light among you. Travel on while you have the Light, so that darkness may not overtake you; he who travels in the darkness does not know where he is going.
36 Aanghaih caa ah na oh o thai hanah, aanghaih na tawnh o naah, aanghaih to tang oh, tiah a naa. Hae loknawk a thuih pacoengah, Jesu mah nihcae to yae moe, caehtaak ving.
While you still have the Light, believe in the Light, that you may be ‘Sons of Light.’” After he had said this, Jesus went away, and hid himself from them.
37 Anih mah nihcae hma ah paroeai dawnrai hmuen sak pae cadoeh, nihcae mah anih to tang o ai.
But, though Jesus had given so many signs of his mission before their eyes, they still did not believe in him,
38 Angraeng, ka thuih o ih lok tang kami oh o maw? Angraeng ih ban loe mi khaeah maw amtueng? tiah tahmaa Isaiah mah thuih ih lok akoep han ih ni oh.
in fulfilment of the words of the Prophet Isaiah, where he says — ‘Lord, who has believed our teaching? And to whom has the might of the Lord been revealed?’
39 To pongah nihcae mah tang o thai ai, Isaiah mah,
The reason why they were unable to believe is given by Isaiah elsewhere, in these words —
40 Anih mah nihcae mikmaengsak moe, nihcae ih palung amtaksak; to tih ai nahaeloe nihcae mah mik hoiah hnu o moeng tih, palung hoiah panoek o ueloe, amnlaem o tih, to naah kai mah nihcae to ngan ka tuisak moeng tih, tiah thuih let.
‘He has blinded their eyes, and blunted their mind, so that they should not see with their eyes, and perceive with their mind, and turn — And I should heal them.’
41 Isaiah mah, Anih lensawkhaih hnuk naah, Anih kawng to hae tiah thuih.
Isaiah said this, because he saw Christ’s glory; and it was of him that he spoke.
42 To tiah om cadoeh, paroeai ukkung ah kaom kaminawk mah anih to tang o; toe Farasinawk mah sineko thung hoiah haek moeng tih, tiah a poek o pongah, Anih kawng to nihcae mah taphong o ai.
Yet for all this, even among the leading men there were many who came to believe in Jesus; but, on account of the Pharisees, they did not acknowledge it, for fear that they should be expelled from their Synagogues;
43 Nihcae loe Sithaw mah pakoeh pongah kami mah pakoehhaih to koeh o kue.
for they valued honour from men more than honour from God.
44 To naah Jesu mah, Kai tang kami loe Kai to tang ai, Kai patoehkung tang kami ah ni oh.
But Jesus had proclaimed: “He who believes in me believes, not in me, but in him who sent me;
45 Kai khen kami loe Kai patoehkung to a hnuk.
and he who sees me sees him who sent me.
46 Kai tang kaminawk, khoving thungah oh o han ai ah, Kai loe long ah kangzo aanghaih ah ka oh.
I have come as a Light into the world, that no one who believes in me should remain in the darkness.
47 Mi kawbaktih doeh ka lok to thaih moe, tang ai nahaeloe anih to lok ka caek mak ai: Kai loe long lokcaek hanah kang zo ai, long pahlong hanah ni kang zoh.
When any one hears my teaching and pays no heed to it, I am not his judge; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 Kai talawk ai moe, ka lok tahngai ai kami lokcaekkung maeto oh: Ka thuih ih lok mah anih to hnukkhuem niah lokcaek tih.
He who rejects me, and disregards my teaching, has a judge already — the very Message which I have delivered will itself be his judge at the Last Day.
49 Kai loe kaimah koehah lok ka thui ai; toe ka thuih moe, ka patuk han ih lok loe kai patoehkung Pa mah ni ang paek.
For I have not delivered it on my own authority; but the Father, who sent me, has himself given me his command as to what I should say, and what message I should deliver.
50 Anih mah paek ih lok loe dungzan hinghaih lok ah oh, tito ka panoek: to pongah Pa mah ang thuihsak ih baktih toengah ni lok ka thuih, tiah a naa. (aiōnios g166)
And I know that Immortal Life lies in keeping his command. Therefore, whatever I say, I say only what the Father has taught me.” (aiōnios g166)
