1 To pongah aicae loe kathah parai tamai baktiah hnukungnawk mah ven pongah, aicae han hmuenzit ah kaom hmuen hoi sak kazoi zaehaih to takhoe o ving si loe, aicae hma ah kaom anghakhaih ahmuen ah a phak o thai hanah, palungsawkhaih hoiah cawn o si,
Seeing, therefore, that there is on every side of us such a throng of witnesses, let us also lay aside everything that hinders us, and the sin that clings about us, and run with patient endurance the race that lies before us,
2 aicae tanghaih takung hoi akoephaih ah kaom Jesu to khen o si; anih hmaa ah suek ih anghoehaih pongah, Anih mah azathaih to poek ai ah, thinglam pongah patangkhang, vaihi loe Sithaw angraeng tangkhang bantang bangah anghnut boeh.
our eyes fixed upon Jesus, the Leader and perfect Example of our faith, who, for the joy that lay before him, endured the cross, heedless of its shame, and now ‘has taken his seat at the right hand’ of the throne of God.
3 Poek nang pho o moe, tha na hnaem o han ai ah, kazae kaminawk mah pacaekthlaek ih Anih to poek oh.
Weigh well the example of him who had to endure such opposition from ‘men who were sinning against themselves,’ so that you should not grow weary or faint-hearted.
4 Zaehaih misa na tuk o naah, athii long khoek to misa na tuh o vai ai vop.
You have not yet, in your struggle with sin, resisted to the death;
5 Anih mah, Ka capa, Angraeng mah thuitaekhaih to patoek hmah, ang zoeh naah palungboeng hmah: a caanawk thuitaek baktiah ang thuih o ih thapaekhaih loknawk to na pahnet o boeh, tiah thuih.
and you have forgotten the encouraging words which are addressed to you as God’s Children — ‘My child, think not lightly of the Lord’s discipline, Do not despond when he rebukes you;
6 Angraeng mah palung ih kami to thuitaek moe, a caa baktiah talawk ih kami to danpaek.
For it is him whom he loves that he disciplines, And he chastises every child whom he acknowledges.’
7 A thuitaekhaih to na pauep o naah, anih mah caanawk khetzawn baktiah ni ang khetzawn o; ampa mah thuitaek ai ih caa mi maw kaom?
It is for your discipline that you have to endure all this. God is dealing with you as his Children. For where is there a child whom his father does not discipline?
8 Caanawk boih thuithaekhaih baktih toengah, thuitaekhaih to na tong o ai nahaeloe, nangcae loe a caa tangtang na ai ni, payang caa ah ni na oh o.
If you are left without that discipline, in which all children share, it shows that you are bastards, and not true Children.
9 To khue ai aicae loe thuitaekkung taksa ampa to a tawnh o, nihcae to saiqathaih a paek o: to tiah nahaeloe dungzan ah kahing Muithla bang ih aicae ampa mah thuitaekhaih cae loe kawkruk maw saiqathaih a paek o aep han oh?
Further, when our earthly fathers disciplined us, we respected them. Shall we not, then, much rather yield submission to the Father of souls, and live?
10 Aicae ampanawk mah loe angmacae koehhaih baktiah oh hanah ni atue setta thung ang thuitaek o; toe Anih mah loe atho kaom, angmah ciimcaihaih baktiah oh thai han ih ni ang thuitaek o.
Our fathers disciplined us for only a short time and as seemed best to them; but God disciplines us for our true good, to enable us to share his holiness.
11 Thuitaek nathuem ah loe, mi mah doeh anghoehaih tawn mak ai, palungset koiah ni oh: toe thuitaek ih kaminawk loe hnukkhuemah monghaih kaom toenghaih thingthai to hnuk o.
No discipline is pleasant at the time; on the contrary, it is painful. But afterwards its fruit is seen in the peacefulness of a righteous life which is the lot of those who have been trained under it.
12 To pongah thacak ai ban hoi khokkhunawk to thacak o sak ah;
Therefore ‘lift again the down-dropped hands and straighten the weakened knees;
13 khok angbai kami to ngantui moe, lamcaeh thai ai kami ah oh han ai ah, katoeng na khok caehhaih loklam to paroep oh.
make straight paths for your feet,’ so that the lame limb may not be put out of joint, but rather be cured.
14 Kaminawk boih hoi angdaeh oh loe, ciimcaihaih loklam to pazui oh, ciimcai ai ah loe mi mah doeh Angraeng to hnu thai mak ai:
Try earnestly to live at peace with every one, and to attain to that purity without which no one will see the Lord.
15 acoehaih hoiah khen oh, to tih ai nahaeloe Sithaw tahmenhaih hnu ai ah na om o moeng tih; paroeai kaminawk amhnongsak hanah, kakhaa thing tangzun hoiah tadok tacawt tahang ueloe, raihaih na paek o moeng tih;
Take care that no one fails to use the loving help of God, ‘that no bitterness is allowed to take root and spring up, and cause trouble,’ and so poison the whole community.
16 tamquta hoi nongpa nongpata zaehaih sah kami baktiah maw, to tih ai boeh loe vaito caak han koi buh zetta hoiah caa lu ah ohhaih zaw kami Esau baktih, Sithaw saiqathaih tawn ai kamhnong kami ah na om o moeng tih.
Take care that no one becomes immoral, or irreligious like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal.
17 Na panoek o baktih toengah, to tiah oh pacoengah, Esau mah tahamhoihhaih qawk to a koeh let, anih mah mikkhraetui krak khoek to hnik cadoeh ampa poekhaih to amkhrai ai, anih to pahnawt sut.
For you know that even afterwards, when he wished to claim his father’s blessing, he was rejected — for he never found an opportunity to repair his error — though he begged for the blessing with tears.
18 Nangcae loe ban hoi sui thai koiah kaom mae ah doeh, hmai angqonghaih ahmuen ah doeh, tamai kamnum hoi khoving ohhaih ahmuen ah doeh, takhisae songhaih ahmuen ah doeh,
It is not to tangible ‘flaming fire’ that you have drawn near, nor to ‘gloom, and darkness, and storm,
19 mongkah tuen hoi lok katuen ahmuen ah doeh na caeh o ai; to lok kathaih kaminawk mah nihcae khaeah lok thuih pae let han ai ah tahmenhaih hnik o:
and the blast of a trumpet, and an audible voice.’ Those who heard that voice entreated that they might hear no more,
20 (moi kasan mah mataeng doeh to mae to sui nahaeloe, thlung hoiah vah mat han oh, to tih ai boeh loe tazae hoiah thun han oh, tiah kaom lokpaekhaih to nihcae mah pazui o thai ai:
for they could not bear to think of the command — ‘If even an animal touches the mountain, it is to be stoned to death;’
21 to tiah a hnuk o ih hmuen loe zitthoh parai pongah Mosi mah, Ka zit loiah ka tasoeh, ) tiah thuih.
and so fearful was the sight that Moses said — ‘I tremble with fear.’
22 Toe nangcae loe Zion mae ah, kahing Sithaw ih vangpui van Jerusalem ah, kroek laek ai ah kamkhueng van kaminawk khaeah,
No, but it is to Mount Zion that you have drawn near, the City of the Living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to countless hosts of angels,
23 kaminawk boih amkhuenghaih ahmuen ah, van ah ahmin kaom tapen tangsuek kricaabunawk khaeah, kaminawk boih lokcaekkung Sithaw khaeah, akoephaih thungah kaom katoeng kaminawk ih muithla khaeah,
to the festal gathering and assemblage of God’s Eldest Sons whose names are enrolled in Heaven, to God the Judge of all men, to the spirits of the righteous who have attained perfection,
24 Abel ih athii pongah kahoih kue athii kraihaih kawng kathui, lokmaihaih kangtha Laicaeh Jesu khaeah ni na caeh o.
to Jesus, the intermediary of a new Covenant, and to the Sprinkled Blood that tells of better things than the blood of Abel.
25 Nangcae khaeah lokthui kami ih lok to aek han ai ah acoe oh. Long ah lok kathui Mosi ih lok to aek o pongah, nihcae loe hraemhaih thung hoiah loih o thai ai nahaeloe, van hoiah lok kathui Anih ih lok to aicae mah angqoi o taak nahaeloe, kawkruk maw aicae loe hraemhaih thung hoi loih thai ai ah a om o aep tih:
Beware how you refuse to hear him who is speaking. For, if the Israelites did not escape punishment, when they refused to listen to him who taught them on earth the divine will, far worse will it be for us, if we turn away from him who is teaching us from Heaven.
26 To ih lok atuen mah long to anghuensak: toe vaihi loe long khue na ai, van doeh kang huensak let han, tiah a thuih.
Then his voice shook the earth, but now his declaration is — ‘Still once more I will cause not only the earth to tremble, but also the heavens.’
27 Vaito anghuensak let han, tiah thuih koehhaih loe, Anghuen thai ai hmuennawk oh o poe thai hanah, sak ih hmuennawk to anghuensak boih ueloe, takhoe boih tih, tih haih ih ni.
And those words ‘still once more’ indicate the passing away of all that is shaken — that is, of all created things — in order that only what is unshaken may remain.
28 Aicae loe anghuen thai ai prae to a hnuk o pongah, saiqathaih hoi zithaih hoiah Sithaw tok a sak o thai hanah, tahmenhaih to tawn o si.
Therefore, let us, who have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken, be thankful, and so offer acceptable worship to God, with awe and reverence.
29 Aicae ih Sithaw loe kangqong hmai ah oh.
For our God is ‘a consuming fire.’
