1 Aw amthu Kalati kaminawk, thinglam nuiah takhing o ih Jesu Kri to nangcae khae kamtueng ah ka thuih moe, mik hoiah na hnuk o boeh, toe loktang lok tang han ai ah, mi mah maw ang doi o?
Foolish Galatians! Who has been enchanting you – you before whose eyes Jesus Christ was depicted on the cross?
2 Nangcae khae hoi hae lok maeto khue ni thaih han ka koeh, kaalok pazuihaih rang hoiah maw Muithla na hnuk o, to tih ai boeh loe tanghaih lok thaihaih rang hoiah?
Here is the one thing that I want to find out from you – Did you receive the Spirit as the result of obedience to Law, or of your having listened with faith?
3 Hae tih khoek to maw nam thu o? Muithla hoiah toksak amtong o boeh to mah, vaihi taksa koehhaih bangah maw na koep o lat han?
Can you be so foolish? After beginning with what is spiritual, do you now end with what is external?
4 Tidoeh avang ai ah maw paroeai patang na khang o, tidoeh avang ai tanglang ah maw oh boeh?
Did you go through so much to no purpose? – if indeed it really was to no purpose!
5 Nangcae khaeah Muithla paekkung, dawnrai hmuennawk sahkung loe, kaalok pazuihaih rang hoiah maw to toknawk to a sak, to tih ai boeh loe tanghaih lok thaihaih rang hoiah?
He who supplies you abundantly with his Spirit and endows you with such powers – does he do this as the result of obedience to Law? Or as the result of your having listened with faith?
6 To baktih toengah Abraham mah Sithaw to tang pongah, a tanghaih to toenghaih ah tapom pae.
It is just as it was with Abraham – he had faith in God, and his faith was regarded by God as righteousness.
7 Tanghaih tawn kaminawk loe, Abraham ih caa ah oh o, tito panoek oh.
You see, then, that those whose lives are based on faith are the sons of Abraham.
8 Sithaw panoek ai kaminawk loe Sithaw tanghaih rang hoiah toenghaih hnu o tih, tiah Cabu mah hnukcoek boeh, Nang rang hoiah acaeng kaminawk boih tahamhoihaih hnu o tih, tiah tamthanglok hoih to Abraham khaeah thuih pae coek boeh.
And scripture, foreseeing that God would pronounce the Gentiles righteous as the result of faith, foretold the good news to Abraham in the words – ‘Through you all the Gentiles will be blessed.’
9 To pongah tanghaih tawn kaminawk loe, tanghaih tawn Abraham hoi nawnto tahamhoihaih hnu o tih.
And, therefore, those whose lives are based on faith share the blessings bestowed on the faith of Abraham.
10 Kaalok toksakhaih thungah kaom kaminawk boih loe, tangoenghaih thungah oh o; sak koi kaom, kaalok thungah tarik ih loknawk boih pazui poe ai kaminawk loe, tangoenghaih hnuk o, tiah tarik ih oh.
All who rely on obedience to Law are under a curse, for scripture says – ‘Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all that is written in the book of the Law, and do it.’
11 Toe mi kawbaktih doeh kaalok rang hoiah Sithaw hmaa ah toenghaih hnu thai ai, tiah amtueng: katoeng kami loe tanghaih hoiah hing tih, tiah lok to oh.
Again, it is evident that no one is pronounced righteous before God through Law, for we read – ‘Through faith the righteous will find life.’
12 Kaalok loe tanghaih ih na ai ni: toe kaalok pazui kami loe pazuihaih rang hoiah hing tih.
But the Law is not based on faith; no, its words are – ‘Those who practice these precepts will find life through them.’
13 Thing pongah bang ih kami boih loe tangoenghaih tongh kami ah oh, tiah tarik ih oh: Kri loe aicae hanah tangoenghaih tongh moe, kaalok tangoenghaih thung hoiah aicae to akrang boeh.
Christ ransomed us from the curse pronounced in the Law, by taking the curse on himself for us, for scripture says – ‘Cursed is anyone who is hanged on a tree.’
14 Kri Jesu rang hoiah Abraham tahamhoihhaih Gentelnawk khaeah phak thai hanah, tanghaih rang hoiah ni lokkamhaih Muithla to a hnu o tih.
And this he did that the blessing given to Abraham might be extended to the Gentiles through their union with Jesus Christ; that so, through our faith, we also might receive the promised gift of the Spirit.
15 Nawkamyanawk, kaminawk khosakhaih dan baktiah lok kang thuih o; kami lokmaihaih mataeng doeh caksak boeh loe, mi mah doeh phrae ai, thap doeh thap vai ai, to tiah ni hae hmuen doeh oh.
To take an illustration, friends, from daily life – No one sets aside even an agreement between two people, when once it has been confirmed, nor do they add conditions to it.
16 Abraham hoi anih ih atii khaeah ni lokkamhaih loe sak. Cabu mah kami pop thuihaih baktiah, atiinawk, tiah thui ai; toe kami maeto khaeah ni, nang ih atii, tiah thuih; to kami loe Kri ni.
Now it was to Abraham that the promises were made, ‘and to his offspring.’ It was not said ‘to his offsprings,’ as if many persons were meant, but the words were ‘to your offspring,’ showing that one person was meant – and that was Christ.
17 Ka thuih koehhaih loe hae tiah oh; Kri ah Sithaw mah caksak ih lokmaihaih to, saning cumvai pali, quithumto laemh pacoengah paek ih kaalok mah phrae thai mak ai, lokkamhaih doeh azom pui ah om mak ai.
My point is this – An agreement already confirmed by God cannot be canceled by the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, so as to cause the promise to be set aside.
18 Kaalok rang hoiah qawktoephaih om nahaeloe, lokkamhaih hoiah om mak ai boeh: toe lokkamhaih rang hoiah ni Sithaw mah Abraham khaeah qawktoephaih to paek.
If our heritage is the result of Law, then it has ceased to be the result of a promise. Yet God conferred it on Abraham by a promise.
19 To tiah nahaeloe kaalok loe tih avanghaih maw oh? Sakpazaehaih pop pongah ni lokkamhaih ah kaom kami khae hoi ih atii angzo ai karoek to, paek thap ah oh; to kaalok loe van kaminawk rang hoiah laicaeh maeto ban ah paek.
What, then, you ask, was the use of the Law? It was a later addition, to make people conscious of their wrongdoings, and intended to last only until the coming of that offspring to whom the promise had been made; and it was delivered through angels by a mediator.
20 To laicaeh loe kami maeto khue han om ai; toe Sithaw loe maeto ni.
Now mediation implies more than one person, but God is one only.
21 Kaalok mah Sithaw lokkamhaih to aek maw? Aek ai: kaalok mah hinghaih paek thai nahaeloe, toenghaih doeh kaalok rang hoiah angzo tih boeh.
Does that set the Law in opposition to God’s promises? Heaven forbid! For, if a Law had been given capable of bestowing life, then righteousness would have actually owed its existence to Law.
22 Toe Jesu Kri tanghaih rang hoiah lokkamhaih to tangcaanawk khaeah paek thai hanah, Cabu mah kaminawk boih zaehaih thungah suek.
But the words of scripture represent the whole world as being in bondage to sin, so that the promised blessing, dependent, as it is, on faith in Jesus Christ, may be given to those who have faith in him.
23 Toe aicae mah hnukkhuem ah kamtueng han koi tanghaih to a tawnh o thai hanah, tanghaih angzo ai naah, aicae loe kaalok ukhaih thungah ni a oh o.
Before the coming of faith, we were kept under the guard of the Law, in bondage, awaiting the faith that was destined to be revealed.
24 To pongah tanghaih rang hoiah toenghaih a hnuk o thai hanah, kaalok loe aicae Kri khaeah caeh haih, patukkung ah ni oh.
Thus the Law has proved a guide to lead us to Christ, in order that we may be pronounced righteous as the result of faith.
25 Toe tanghaih angzoh pacoengah loe, patukkung maeto ih ban thungah a om o ai boeh.
But now that faith has come we no longer need a guide.
26 Kri Jesu tanghaih rang hoiah nangcae loe Sithaw ih caa ah ni na oh o boih.
For you are all sons of God, through your faith in Christ Jesus.
27 Kri ah tuinuem kaminawk boih loe, Kri to laihaw ah nang khuk o boeh.
For all of you who were baptized into union with Christ clothed yourselves with Christ.
28 Kri ah loe Judah kami, Grik kami, misong, loih kami, nongpa, nongpata tito om ai, Kri Jesu ah maeto ah ni na oh o boih.
All distinctions between Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female, have vanished; for in union with Christ Jesus you are all one.
29 Kri ih kami ah na oh o nahaeloe, Abraham ih atii ah na oh o moe, lokkamhaih baktih toengah qawktoep kami ah na oh o.
And, since you belong to Christ, it follows that you are Abraham’s offspring and, under the promise, sharers in the inheritance.
