< 1 Samuel 16 >

1 Angraeng mah Samuel khaeah, Israel kaminawk ukkung siangpahrang ah ohhaih ahmuen hoiah Saul to ka pahnawt boeh pongah, nasetto maw anih to palung na set thuih han vop? Moi takii pongah situi to lawn ah loe, caeh ah; Bethlehem vangpui ah kaom Jesse khaeah kang patoeh han; anih ih capanawk thung hoiah kami maeto siangpahrang ah ka qoih boeh, tiah a naa.
And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill your horn with oil, and go, I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
2 Toe Samuel mah, Kawbangmaw ka caeh thai tih? Saul mah thaih nahaeloe na hum tih, tiah a naa. Angraeng mah, Maitaw tala maeto hoih ah loe, Angraeng khaeah angbawnhaih sak hanah ka caeh han, tiah thui ah.
And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with you, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.
3 Angbawnhaih sak naah Jesse to kawk ah; na sak han koi hmuen kang patuek han hmang; kang patuek ih kami to kai hanah situi bawh ah, tiah a naa.
And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do: and you shall anoint unto me him whom I name unto you.
4 Angraeng mah thuih ih lok baktih toengah, Samuel mah sak moe, Bethlehem vangpui ah caeh; anih angzoh tiah vangpui thung ih kacoehtanawk mah panoek o naah, tasoeh o moe, Nang loe poekmonghaih hoiah maw nang zoh? tiah a naa o.
And Samuel did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Come you peaceably?
5 Samuel mah, Kamong ah ni kang zoh; Angraeng khaeah angbawnhaih sak hanah kang zoh; ciimcai oh loe, angbawnhaih sak hanah kai hoi nawnto angzo oh, tiah a naa. Jesse hoi a caanawk to ciimcaisak pacoengah, angbawnhaih ahmuen ah a kawk.
And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
6 Nihcae to ah angzoh o naah, Samuel mah Eliab to hnuk, to naah Angraeng mah situi bawh ih kami loe Anih hmaa ah oh boeh, tiah a poek.
And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.
7 Toe Angraeng mah Samuel khaeah, Eliab ih tungkrang hoi somsanghaih to khen hmah; anih loe ka qoih ih kami na ai ni; kami mah khet ih hmuen to Angraeng mah khen ai; kami mah loe tasa bang ih tungkrang to khet, toe Angraeng mah loe palungthin ni khet, tiah a naa.
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.
8 To naah Jesse mah Abinadab to kawk moe, Samuel hmaa ah caehsak; toe Samuel mah, Angraeng mah hae kami hae qoi ai, tiah a naa.
Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither has the LORD chosen this.
9 To pacoengah Jesse mah, Shammah to caehsak let bae; toe Samuel mah, Hae kami doeh Angraeng mah qoi ai, tiah a naa.
Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither has the LORD chosen this.
10 Jesse mah a capa sarihto Samuel hmaa ah caehsak boih. Toe Samuel mah anih khaeah, Angraeng mah hae kaminawk hae qoi ai, tiah a naa.
Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD has not chosen these.
11 To naah Samuel mah Jesse khaeah, Hae zetto khue maw capa na tawnh boeh? tiah a naa. Jesse mah, Kanawk koek maeto oh vop, toe anih loe tuu toep, tiah a naa. Samuel mah Jesse khaeah, Anih to kawksak ah, anih hae ah pha ai karoek to kang hnu mak ai, tiah a naa.
And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all your children? And he said, There remains yet the youngest, and, behold, he keeps the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he comes here.
12 To pongah anih kawk hanah kami to patoeh; anih phak naah, anih loe ngan amling hup, krang hoih khue ai ah, khet kamcuk ah oh. To naah Angraeng mah, Anih boeh ni, angthawk loe situi bawh ah, tiah a naa.
And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was rosy, and likewise of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
13 To pacoengah Samuel mah situi suekhaih moi takii to lak moe, amnawkamyanawk hmaa ah anih to situi hoiah bawh; to na ni hoi kamtong David nuiah Angraeng ih Muithla to oh. To pacoengah Samuel loe angthawk moe, Ramah vangpui ah amlaem let.
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
14 Vaihi loe Angraeng ih Muithla mah Saul to caehtaak ving boeh pongah, muithla kasae mah anih to raihaih paek.
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubles you.

Let our lord now command your servants, which are before you, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon you, that he shall play with his hand, and you shall be well.
17 To pongah Saul mah a tamnanawk khaeah, Katoeng kruek kop kami to pakrong oh loe, kai khaeah na hoi oh, tiah a naa.
And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.
19 To naah Saul mah Jesse khaeah laicaeh patoeh moe, Tuu toepkung, na capa David to na patoeh ah, tiah a naa.
Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David your son, which is with the sheep.
20 To pongah Jesse mah hrang to lak moe, takaw hoi misurtui pailang maeto phawhsak pacoengah, maeh caa maeto hoi nawnto a capa David to Saul khaeah patoeh.
And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.
21 David loe Saul khaeah caeh moe, toksak amtong; Saul mah anih to paroeai palung; to pongah David loe anih ih misatukhaih hmuenmae phawkung ah suek.
And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armour bearer.
22 To naah Saul mah Jesse khaeah kami patoeh, David hae ka palung pongah, kai ih tok hae sah poe nasoe, tiah a thuisak.
And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray you, stand before me; for he has found favour in my sight.
23 Angraeng khae ih kasae muithla Saul khaeah phak naah, David mah katoeng to lak moe, kruek; to naah Saul loe hoihkhang kue, poeknawm kue moe, kasae muithla mah anih to caehtaak.
And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
