1 David siangpahrang loe mitong moe, saning doeh coeh boeh; khukbuen angkhuk o sak; toe ngan to bae thai ai boeh.
Now King David was old and advanced in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he couldn’t keep warm.

Therefore his servants said to him, “Let a young virgin be sought for my lord the king. Let her stand before the king, and cherish him; and let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may keep warm.”

So they sought for a beautiful young lady throughout all the borders of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

The young lady was very beautiful; and she cherished the king, and served him; but the king didn’t know her intimately.
5 To naah Haggith capa Adonijah mah, Kai loe siangpahrang ah ka om tih boeh, tiah angmah hoi angmah to kasangah amkoeh. To pongah hrang lakoknawk hoi hrangnawk to lak moe, angmah hmaa ah cawnh hanah kami quipangato qoih.
Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” Then he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.
6 Anih loe ampa mah, Tipongah hae baktih hmuen na sak loe? tiah thuitaek vai ai; anih loe krang doeh hoih parai, Absalom ih amnawk ah oh.
His father had not displeased him at any time in saying, “Why have you done so?” and he was also a very handsome man; and he was born after Absalom.
7 Adonijah loe Zeruiah capa Joab, qaima Abiathar hoiah lok angdueng o; nihnik mah Adonijah to angdoet hoi haih.
He conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest; and they followed Adonijah and helped him.
8 Toe qaima Zadok, Jehoiada capa Benaiah, tahmaa Nathan, thacak David ih misatoep kami Shimei hoi Rei cae mah loe Adonijah to angdoe o haih ai.
But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

Adonijah killed sheep, cattle, and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En Rogel; and he called all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s servants;
10 Toe tahmaa Nathan, Benaiah, thacak misatoep kaminawk hoi amnawk Solomon to kawk ai.
but he didn’t call Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother.
11 To naah tahmaa Nathan mah Solomon amno Bathsheba khaeah, Aicae angraeng David panoek ai ah, Haggith capa Adonijah loe siangpahrang ah oh boeh, tito na panoek maw?
Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Haven’t you heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and David our lord doesn’t know it?
12 To pongah vaihi na hinghaih hoi na capa Solomon hinghaih to pahlong hanah lok kang thuih han.
Now therefore come, please let me give you counsel, that you may save your own life and your son Solomon’s life.

Go in to King David, and tell him, ‘Didn’t you, my lord the king, swear to your servant, saying, “Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne”? Why then does Adonijah reign?’
14 Khenah, siangpahrang khaeah to tiah lok na thuih li naah, kai kang kun moe, na thuih ih lok to kang doet haih han, tiah a naa.
Behold, while you are still talking there with the king, I will also come in after you and confirm your words.”
15 To pongah Bathsheba loe, Shunam kami Abishag mah khetzawn ih, mitong siangpahrang khaeah, imkhaan thungah caeh.
Bathsheba went in to the king in his room. The king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.
16 A phak naah Bathsheba loe siangpahrang hmaa ah akuep tathuk. Siangpahrang mah, Timaw na koeh? tiah a naa.
Bathsheba bowed and showed respect to the king. The king said, “What would you like?”
17 To naah anih mah siangpahrang khaeah, Ka angraeng, na Angraeng Sithaw ih ahmin hoiah na tamna kai khaeah, Kai pacoeng loe, na capa Solomon hae siangpahrang ah om ueloe, kang hnuthaih angraeng tangkhang nuiah anghnu tih, tiah lok na thuih.
She said to him, “My lord, you swore by the LORD your God to your servant, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’
18 Toe khenah, Adonijah vaihi siangpahrang ah oh boeh, tito ka angraeng, siangpahrang nang mah na panoek ai;
Now, behold, Adonijah reigns; and you, my lord the king, don’t know it.
19 anih loe maitaw taenawk, kathawk parai maitawnawk hoi paroeai tuunawk to boh moe, siangpahrang capanawk boih, qaima Abiathar hoi misatuh angraeng Joab to a kawk; toe na tamna Solomon loe kawk ai.
He has slain cattle and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the army; but he hasn’t called Solomon your servant.
20 Aw ka angraeng, siangpahrang, Siangpahrang nang pacoengah, mi maw angraeng tangkhang nuiah anghnu tih, tiah khet hanah, Israel kaminawk boih ih mik loe na nuiah ni oh.
You, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, that you should tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
21 To tih ai nahaeloe ka angraeng, siangpahrang ampanawk khaeah anghak pacoengah, kai hoi ka capa Solomon loe kami kazae baktiah ni na sah o tih boeh, tiah a naa.
Otherwise it will happen, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered criminals.”
22 Khenah, anih mah siangpahrang khaeah lokthuih li naah, tahmaa Nathan to athungah akun.
Behold, while she was still talking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.
23 Nihnik mah siangpahrang khaeah, Tahmaa Nathan hae ah oh, tiah a naa. To pongah tahmaa loe siangpahrang hmaa ah caeh moe, a mikhmai long ah akuep pae.
They told the king, saying, “Behold, Nathan the prophet!” When he had come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.
24 Nathan mah, Aw ka angraeng, siangpahrang, kai pacoengah, Adonijah hae siangpahrang ah om ueloe, ka angraeng tangkhang nuiah anghnu tih, tiah na thuih maw?
Nathan said, “My lord, King, have you said, ‘Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne’?
25 Anih loe vaihniah caeh tathuk moe, maitaw taenawk, kathawk parai maitaw caa hoi paroeai tuunawk to angbawnhaih ah a paek; siangpahrang capanawk boih, misatuh angraengnawk hoi qaima Abiathar to a kawk; nihcae loe Adonijah hmaa ah buhcaak o moe, a naek o; Adonijah siangpahrang hinglung sawk nasoe, tiah a hang o.
For he has gone down today, and has slain cattle, fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king’s sons, the captains of the army, and Abiathar the priest. Behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and saying, ‘Long live King Adonijah!’
26 Toe na tamna kai hoi qaima Zadok, Jehoiada capa Benaiah, na tamna Solomon loe kawk o ai.
But he hasn’t called me, even me your servant, Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon.
27 Hae hmuen hae na tamna panoeksak ai ah, ka angraeng, siangpahrang mah, siangpahrang angmah pacoengah, angraeng tangkhang nuiah anghnu han koi kami to na suek boeh maw? tiah a naa.
Was this thing done by my lord the king, and you haven’t shown to your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?”
28 To pacoengah David siangpahrang mah, Bathsheba to kawsak. Anih loe siangpahrang hmaa ah angzoh moe, a hmaa ah angdoet.
Then King David answered, “Call Bathsheba in to me.” She came into the king’s presence and stood before the king.
29 To naah siangpahrang mah, Raihaih ka tongh naah ka hinghaih pahlongkung, Angraeng loe hing pongah,
The king vowed and said, “As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,
30 Israel Angraeng Sithaw ih ahmin hoiah nang khaeah, kai pacoengah loe, na capa Solomon to siangpahrang ah om tih, anih loe kai zuengah ka angraeng tangkhang nuiah anghnu tih, tiah ka sak ih lokkamhaih to vaihniah ka koepsak han, tiah a naa.
most certainly as I swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place;’ I will most certainly do this today.”
31 To naah Bathsheba loe long ah akuep tathuk moe, siangpahrang to khingyahaih paek pacoengah, Ka angraeng, siangpahrang David loe dungzan khoek to hing nasoe, tiah a naa.
Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth and showed respect to the king, and said, “Let my lord King David live forever!”
32 David siangpahrang mah, Qaima Zadok, tahmaa Nathan hoi Jehoiada capa Benaiah to kawk oh, tiah a naa. Nihcae loe siangpahrang hmaa ah angzoh o.
King David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” They came before the king.
33 Siangpahrang mah nihcae khaeah, Na angraeng ih tamnanawk to kawk oh; kaimah ih hrang nuiah ka capa Solomon to angthueng o sak loe, Gihon ah caeh o haih tathuk ah.
The king said to them, “Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.
34 To ahmuen ah qaima Zadok hoi tahmaa Nathan mah, anih to Israel kaminawk ih siangpahrang ni, tiah situi bawh hoi nasoe; mongkah to ueng oh loe, Solomon siangpahrang to Sithaw mah hinglung sawksak nasoe, tiah hang oh.
Let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel. Blow the shofar, and say, ‘Long live King Solomon!’
35 To pacoengah anih hoi nawnto caeh o tahang ah, anih loe kai ih angraeng tangkhang nuiah anghnu ueloe, kai zuengah siangpahrang ah om tih. Anih to Israel hoi Judah kaminawk ukkung ah ka caksak boeh, tiah a naa.
Then come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne; for he shall be king in my place. I have appointed him to be prince over Israel and over Judah.”
36 Jehoiada capa Benaiah mah, Amen; ka angraeng, siangpahrang ih Angraeng Sithaw mah to tiah thuih boeh.
Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, “Amen. May the LORD, the God of my lord the king, say so.
37 Angraeng loe ka angraeng siangpahrang hoi nawnto oh baktih toengah, ka angraeng David siangpahrang pongah kalen kue angraeng tangkhang ah oh hanah, Anih mah Solomon to om thuih nasoe, tiah a naa.
As the LORD has been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David.”
38 To pongah qaima Zadok, tahmaa Nathan, Jehoiada capa Benaiah, Kereth kaminawk hoi Peleth kaminawk loe caeh o tathuk moe, Solomon to David ih mule hrang nuiah angthueng o sak pacoengah, Gihon ah caeh o haih.
So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David’s mule, and brought him to Gihon.
39 Qaima Zadok mah kahni imthung ih tuu takii thung ih situi tabu to lak moe, Solomon to bawh. To pacoengah mongkah to uengh o, kaminawk boih mah, Sithaw mah Solomon siangpahrang hinglung sawksak nasoe, tiah hang o.
Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the Tent, and anointed Solomon. They blew the shofar; and all the people said, “Long live King Solomon!”
40 Kaminawk boih anih hnukah caeh o tahang, kaminawk loe tamoi uengh o moe, paroeai anghoe o; nihcae ih lok pongah long to anghuenh.
All the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth shook with their sound.
41 Adonijah hoi a taengah kaom angvinnawk boih mah buhcaak pacoeng tom naah to lok to thaih o; Joab mah mongkah lok to thaih naah, Tipongmaw vangpui loe atuen apawk hoiah koi? tiah a naa.
Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they had finished eating. When Joab heard the sound of the shofar, he said, “Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar?”
42 To tiah lokthuih li naah, khenah, qaima Abiathar capa Jonathan to angzoh; Adonijah mah anih khaeah, Athung akun ah; nang loe kahoih kami ah na oh pongah, tamthang kahoih ni nang thui tih, tiah a naa.
While he yet spoke, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said, “Come in; for you are a worthy man, and bring good news.”
43 Jonathan mah Adonijah khaeah, Aicae angraeng David mah Solomon to siangpaharng ah ohsak boeh.
Jonathan answered Adonijah, “Most certainly our lord King David has made Solomon king.
44 Siangpahrang mah anih to qaima Zadok, tahmaa Nathan, Jehoiada capa Benaiah, Kereth kaminawk, Peleth kaminawk hoi nawnto patoeh moe, anih to siangpahrang ih mule hrang nuiah angthueng o sak boeh;
The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and they have caused him to ride on the king’s mule.
45 qaima Zadok hoi tahmaa Nathan mah anih to Gihon ah siangpahrang ah situi bawh hoi boeh; nihcae loe to ahmuen hoiah anghoehaih hoi angzoh o pongah, vangpui to anghuenh. To atuen apawk ni a thaih o.
Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon. They have come up from there rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that you have heard.
46 To pacoengah Solomon loe siangpahrang angraeng tangkhang nuiah anghnut boeh.
Also, Solomon sits on the throne of the kingdom.
47 Siangpahrang ih tamnanawk doeh anghoehaih lokthuih hanah aicae angraeng, David siangpahrang khaeah angzoh o; Sithaw mah Solomon ih ahmin to na hmin pongah lensak kue nasoe loe, anih ih angraeng tangkhang doeh nang ih angraeng tangkhang pongah len kue nasoe, tiah a naa o. Siangpahrang loe angsonghaih ahmuen ah tabok moe, Sithaw to a bok.
Moreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord King David, saying, ‘May your God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne;’ and the king bowed himself on the bed.
48 Kaih ih angraeng tangkhang nuiah anghnu han kami to vaihniah, ka mik hoiah nang hnuksak boeh pongah, Israel Angraeng Sithaw loe tahamhoihaih om nasoe, tiah a thuih, tiah a naa.
Also thus said the king, ‘Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne today, my eyes even seeing it.’”
49 To lok to Adonijah hoi nawnto kaom angvinnawk boih mah thaih o naah, zit o pongah angthawk moe, angmacae ih loklam ah caeh o boih.
All the guests of Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and each man went his way.
50 Toe Adonijah mah Solomon to zit pongah, caeh moe, hmaicam pong ih takii to patawnh hoiah oh.
Adonijah was afraid because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and hung onto the horns of the altar.
51 Khenah, Adonijah mah Solomon siangpaharng to zit pongah, hmaicam pong ih takii to patawnh caeng moe, Solomon siangpahrang mah kai khaeah, anih ih tamna to angmah ih sumsen hoiah ka hum mak ai, tiah vaihniah lokkamhaih sah nasoe, tiah a thuih, tiah Solomon khaeah thuih pae o.
Solomon was told, “Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon; for, behold, he is hanging onto the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon swear to me first that he will not kill his servant with the sword.’”
52 Solomon mah, Angmah hoi angmah to kami kahoih ah om nahaeloe, a lu nui ih sam maeto doeh long ah krah mak ai; toe a nuiah sethaih om nahaeloe dueh tih, tiah a naa.
Solomon said, “If he shows himself a worthy man, not a hair of his shall fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.”
53 To pacoengah Solomon siangpahrang mah kami to patoeh moe, anih to hmaicam hoiah angzoh o haih tathuk. Adonijah loe angzoh moe, Solomon siangpahrang hmaa ah akuep; to naah Solomon mah nangmah im ah amlaem ah, tiah a naa.
So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. He came and bowed down to King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”
