শমূয়েলের দ্বিতীয় বই 3

1 শৌল গোষ্ঠী ও দাউদ গোষ্ঠীর মধ্যে চলা যুদ্ধ দীর্ঘদিন স্থায়ী হল। দাউদ দিন দিন শক্তিশালী হয়ে উঠছিলেন, অথচ শৌল গোষ্ঠী দিন দিন দুর্বল হয়ে পড়ছিল।

Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. David grew stronger and stronger, but the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.

2 হিব্রোণে দাউদের কয়েকটি ছেলের জন্ম হল: তাঁর বড়ো ছেলের নাম অম্নোন, যিনি যিষ্রিয়েলীয় অহীনোয়মের ছেলে;

Sons were born to David in Hebron. His firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam from Jezreel.

3 তাঁর দ্বিতীয় ছেলে কিলাব, যিনি কর্মিলীয় নাবলের বিধবা অবীগলের সন্তান; তৃতীয় ছেলে অবশালোম, যিনি গশূরের রাজা তলময়ের মেয়ে মাখার সন্তান;

His second son, Kileab, was born to Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel. The third, Absalom, was son of Maacah, daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur.

4 চতুর্থ ছেলে আদোনিয়, যিনি হগীতের সন্তান; পঞ্চম ছেলে শফটিয়, যিনি অবীটলের সন্তান;

David's fourth son, Adonijah, was the son of Haggith. His fifth son was Shephatiah son of Abital,

5 ষষ্ঠ ছেলে যিত্রিয়ম, যিনি দাউদের স্ত্রী ইগ্লার সন্তান। দাউদের এইসব ছেলের জন্ম হল হিব্রোণে।

and the sixth, Ithream, was the son of David's wife Eglah. These sons were born to David in Hebron.

6 শৌল গোষ্ঠী ও দাউদ গোষ্ঠীর মধ্যে যখন যুদ্ধ চলছিল তখন অবনের শৌল গোষ্ঠীতে নিজের পদ শক্তপোক্ত করে যাচ্ছিলেন।

It came about during the war between the house of Saul and the house of David that Abner made himself strong in the house of Saul.

7 ইত্যবসরে রিস্পা বলে শৌলের এক উপপত্নী ছিল। সে ছিল অয়ার মেয়ে। ঈশ্‌বোশত অবনেরকে বললেন, “আপনি কেন আমার বাবার উপপত্নীর সঙ্গে বিছানায় শুয়েছেন?”

Saul had a concubine whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. Ishbosheth said to Abner, “Why have you slept with my father's concubine?”

8 ঈশ্‌বোশতের কথা শুনে অবনের খুব রেগে গেলেন। তাই তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “যিহূদার পক্ষে আমি কি কুকুরের মুণ্ডু? আজও পর্যন্ত আমি তোমার বাবা শৌলের গোষ্ঠীর ও তাঁর পরিবারের ও বন্ধুবান্ধবদের প্রতি আনুগত্য দেখিয়ে এসেছি। তোমাকে আমি দাউদের হাতেও তুলে দিইনি। অথচ এখন কি না তুমি এই মহিলাটির সঙ্গে নাম জড়িয়ে আমাকে অপবাদ দিচ্ছ!

Then Abner was very angry at the words of Ishbosheth and said, “Am I a dog's head that belongs to Judah? Today I am showing faithfulness to the house of Saul, your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, by not delivering you into the hand of David. But now you accuse me of an offense concerning this woman?

9 ঈশ্বর যেন অবনেরকে দণ্ড দেন, যেন কঠোর দণ্ড দেন। সদাপ্রভু শপথ করে দাউদের কাছে যে প্রতিজ্ঞা করলেন, আমি যদি তাঁর হয়ে তা না করি

May God do so to me, Abner, and more also, if I do not do for David as Yahweh has sworn to him,

10 ও শৌল গোষ্ঠীর হাত থেকে রাজ্য কেড়ে নিয়ে দান থেকে বের-শেবা পর্যন্ত ইস্রায়েল ও যিহূদার উপরে দাউদের সিংহাসন স্থির না করি।”

to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul and set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.”

11 ঈশ্‌বোশত অবনেরকে আর একটিও কথা বলার সাহস পাননি, কারণ তিনি তাঁকে ভয় পেয়েছিলেন।

Ishbosheth could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him.

12 পরে অবনের তাঁর হয়ে এই কথা বলার জন্য দাউদের কাছে দূত পাঠালেন, “এই দেশটি কার? আমার সঙ্গে একটি চুক্তি করুন, সম্পূর্ণ ইস্রায়েলকে আপনার পক্ষে আনার জন্য আমি আপনাকে সাহায্য করব।”

Then Abner sent messengers to David to speak for him saying, “Whose land is this? Make a covenant with me, and you will see that my hand is with you, to bring all Israel to you.”

13 “ভালো,” দাউদ বললেন, “আমি আপনার সঙ্গে চুক্তি করব। কিন্তু আমি আপনার কাছে একটি দাবি জানাচ্ছি: আমার সঙ্গে দেখা করার সময় যদি শৌলের মেয়ে মীখলকে নিয়ে আসতে না পারেন, তবে আমার সামনে আর আসবেন না।”

David answered, “Good, I will make a covenant with you. But one thing I require from you is that you cannot see my face unless you first bring Michal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see me.”

14 পরে দাউদ শৌলের ছেলে ঈশ্‌বোশতের কাছে দূত পাঠিয়ে দাবি জানিয়েছিলেন, “আমার স্ত্রী সেই মীখলকে ফিরিয়ে দাও, যাকে আমি একশো জন ফিলিস্তিনীর লিঙ্গত্বকরূপী মেয়েপণ দিয়ে বিয়ে করেছি।”

Then David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, Saul's son, saying, “Give me my wife Michal, for whom I paid a price of one hundred Philistine foreskins.”

15 তখন ঈশ্‌বোশত আদেশ দিয়ে মীখলকে তাঁর স্বামী, লয়িশের ছেলে পল্‌টিয়েলের কাছ থেকে আনিয়েছিলেন।

So Ishbosheth sent for Michal and took her from her husband, Paltiel son of Laish.

16 তাঁর স্বামী অবশ্য পিছন পিছন বহুরীম পর্যন্ত কাঁদতে কাঁদতে তাঁর সঙ্গে গেলেন। তখন অবনের তাঁকে বললেন, “তুমি ঘরে ফিরে যাও!” তাই তিনি ফিরে গেলেন।

Her husband went with her, weeping as he went, and followed her to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Return home now.” So he returned.

17 অবনের ইস্রায়েলের প্রাচীনদের সঙ্গে আলোচনা করে তাদের বললেন, “বেশ কিছুদিন থেকেই আপনারা দাউদকে আপনাদের রাজা বানাতে চাইছেন।

Abner spoke with the elders of Israel saying, “In the past you were trying to have David be king over you.

18 এখনই তা করে ফেলুন! কারণ সদাপ্রভু দাউদের কাছে প্রতিজ্ঞা করেছেন, ‘আমার দাস দাউদকে দিয়েই ফিলিস্তিনীদের ও আমার প্রজা ইস্রায়েলের সব শত্রুর হাত থেকে আমি তাদের উদ্ধার করব।’”

Now do it. For Yahweh has spoken of David saying, 'By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines and from the hand of all their enemies.'”

19 অবনের আবার আলাদা করে বিন্যামিনীয়দের সঙ্গেও কথা বললেন। পরে তিনি হিব্রোণে দাউদের কাছে সবকিছু বলতে গেলেন, যা ইস্রায়েল ও বিন্যামীনের কূলজাত সব লোকজন করতে চেয়েছিল।

Abner also spoke personally to the people of Benjamin. Then Abner went also to speak with David in Hebron to explain everything that Israel and the whole house of Benjamin desired to accomplish.

20 অবনের যখন কুড়ি জন লোক সঙ্গে নিয়ে হিব্রোণে দাউদের কাছে এলেন, দাউদ তখন তাঁর ও তাঁর লোকজনের জন্য ভোজসভার আয়োজন করলেন।

When Abner and twenty of his men arrived in Hebron to see David, David had a feast prepared for them.

21 অবনের দাউদকে বললেন, “আমাকে এখনই যেতে দিন। আমি আমার প্রভু মহারাজের জন্য সমস্ত ইস্রায়েলকে একত্রিত করব, যেন তারা আপনার সঙ্গে এক নিয়মবদ্ধ হয়, ও আপনি যেন আপনার অন্তরের বাসনানুসারে সবার উপর রাজত্ব করতে পারেন।” তখন দাউদ অবনেরকে বিদায় দিলেন, ও তিনি শান্তিতে ফিরে চলে গেলেন।

Abner explained to David, “I will arise and gather all Israel to you, my master the king, so that they may make a covenant with you, so that you may reign over all that you desire.” So David sent Abner away, and Abner left in peace.

22 ঠিক তখনই দাউদের লোকজন ও যোয়াব কোথাও থেকে অতর্কিত আক্রমণ সেরে ফিরছিলেন ও সঙ্গে করে প্রচুর লুন্ঠিত জিনিসপত্রও নিয়ে আসছিলেন। কিন্তু অবনের তখন আর হিব্রোণে দাউদের সঙ্গে ছিলেন না, কারণ দাউদ তাঁকে বিদায় দিলেন, ও তিনি শান্তিতে চলে গেলেন।

Then the soldiers of David and Joab came from a raid and brought much plunder with them. But Abner was not with David in Hebron. David had sent him away, and Abner had left in peace.

23 যোয়াব যখন তাঁর সঙ্গে থাকা সব সৈন্যসামন্ত নিয়ে সেখানে পৌঁছেছিলেন, তিনি খবর পেয়েছিলেন যে নেরের ছেলে অবনের রাজার কাছে এসেছিলেন এবং রাজা তাঁকে বিদায় দিয়েছেন ও তিনিও শান্তিতে চলে গিয়েছেন।

When Joab and all the army with him arrived, they told Joab, “Abner son of Ner came to the king, and the king has sent him away, and Abner left in peace.”

24 তখন যোয়াব রাজার কাছে গিয়ে বললেন, “এ আপনি কী করেছেন? দেখুন, অবনের আপনার কাছে এলেন। আপনি কেন তাঁকে যেতে দিলেন? এখন তো তিনি চলেই গিয়েছেন!

Then Joab came to the king and said, “What have you done? Look, Abner came to you! Why have you sent him away, and he is gone?

25 নেরের ছেলে অবনেরকে তো আপনি জানেনই; তিনি আপনাকে ঠকাতে ও আপনার সব গতিবিধি খুঁটিয়ে লক্ষ্য করতে তথা আপনি কী কী করছেন তার খোঁজ নেওয়ার জন্যই তিনি এলেন।”

Do you not know that Abner son of Ner came to deceive you and to discover your plans and learn everything you are doing?”

26 যোয়াব পরে দাউদের কাছ থেকে চলে গিয়ে অবনেরের কাছে কয়েকজন দূত পাঠালেন, ও তারা সিরার জলাধারের কাছ থেকে তাঁকে ফিরিয়ে এনেছিল। কিন্তু দাউদ তা জানতে পারেননি।

When Joab left David, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah, but David did not know this.

27 অবনের যখন হিব্রোণে ফিরে এলেন, যোয়াব তখন তাঁর সঙ্গে গোপনে কথা বলার অছিলায় তাঁকে একান্তে ভিতরের একটি ঘরে নিয়ে গেলেন। সেখানে যোয়াব তাঁর ভাই অসাহেলের রক্তের প্রতিশোধ নেওয়ার জন্য তাঁর পেটে ছোরা ঢুকিয়ে দিলেন, ও তিনি মরে গেলেন।

When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the middle of the gate to speak with him quietly. There Joab stabbed him in the stomach and killed him. In this way, Joab avenged the blood of Asahel his brother.

28 পরে, দাউদ যখন সেকথা শুনেছিলেন, তিনি বললেন, “নেরের ছেলে অবনেরের রক্তপাতের বিষয়ে আমি ও আমার রাজ্য চিরকাল সদাপ্রভুর সামনে নির্দোষ থাকব।

When David heard about this he said, “I and my kingdom are innocent before Yahweh forever regarding the blood of Abner son of Ner.

29 তাঁর রক্তপাতের দোষ যোয়াব ও তাঁর সম্পূর্ণ পরিবারের উপরেই বর্তুক! যোয়াবের পরিবারে যেন কখনও এমন কোনও লোকের অভাব না হয় যাদের শরীরে কাঁচা ঘা বা কুষ্ঠরোগ আছে অথবা যারা খঞ্জের লাঠিতে ভর দিয়ে চলে বা যারা তরোয়ালের আঘাতে মারা পড়ে বা খাবারের অভাবগ্রস্ত হয়।”

Let the guilt of Abner's death fall on the head of Joab and on all his father's house. May there never fail to be in the family of Joab someone who has a flowing sore or skin disease or who is lame and must walk with a staff or who is killed by the sword or who goes without food.”

30 (যোয়াব ও তাঁর ভাই অবীশয় অবনেরকে হত্যা করলেন, কারণ তিনি তাদের ভাই অসাহেলকে গিবিয়োনের যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে হত্যা করলেন।)

So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in battle.

31 পরে দাউদ যোয়াব ও তাঁর সঙ্গে থাকা সব লোকজনকে বললেন, “নিজেদের কাপড়গুলি ছিঁড়ে ফেলো ও চটের কাপড় পরে অবনেরের আগে আগে শোকপ্রকাশ করতে করতে হাঁটতে থাকো।” রাজা দাউদ স্বয়ং শবাধারের পিছু পিছু হেঁটেছিলেন।

David said to Joab and to all the people who were with him, “Tear your clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner's body.” Now King David walked behind the body in the funeral procession.

32 তারা হিব্রোণে অবনেরকে কবর দিলেন, এবং রাজামশাই অবনেরের সমাধিস্তম্ভের কাছে দাঁড়িয়ে জোরে জোরে কেঁদেছিলেন। সব লোকও কেঁদেছিল।

They buried Abner in Hebron. The king wept and cried loudly at the tomb of Abner, and all the people also wept.

33 রাজামশাই অবনেরের জন্য এই বিলাপগাথা গেয়েছিলেন: “অবনেরকে কি বোকার মতো মরতেই হত?

The king lamented for Abner and sang, “Should Abner die as a fool dies?

34 তোমার হাত তো বাঁধা ছিল না, তোমার পা তো শিকলে বাঁধা ছিল না। তুমি এমন পড়লে যেভাবে কেউ দুষ্টলোকের সামনে পড়ে।” সব লোকজন আবার তাঁর জন্য কাঁদতে শুরু করল।

Your hands were not bound. Your feet were not shackled. As a man falls before the sons of injustice, so you have fallen.” Once more all the people wept over him.

35 পরে তারা সবাই এসে দিন থাকতে থাকতেই দাউদকে কিছু খেয়ে নেওয়ার অনুরোধ জানিয়েছিল; কিন্তু এই বলে দাউদ এক শপথ নিয়েছিলেন, “যদি আমি সূর্য অস্ত যাওয়ার আগে রুটি বা অন্য কিছুর স্বাদ নিই, তবে ঈশ্বর যেন আমায় দণ্ড দেন, কঠোর দণ্ড দেন!”

All the people came to make David eat while it was still day, but David swore, “May God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun goes down.”

36 সব লোকজন তা লক্ষ্য করে সন্তুষ্ট হল; সত্যিই, রাজামশাই যা যা করলেন তা তাদের সন্তুষ্ট করল।

All the people took notice of David's grief, and it pleased them, as whatever the king did pleased them.

37 অতএব সেদিন সেখানকার সব লোকজন ও সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল জানতে পেরেছিল যে নেরের ছেলে অবনেরের খুন হয়ে যাওয়ার পিছনে রাজার কোনও ভূমিকা ছিল না।

So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not the king's desire to kill Abner son of Ner.

38 তখন রাজা তাঁর লোকজনকে বললেন, “তোমরা কি বুঝতে পারছ না যে আজ ইস্রায়েলে এক সেনাপতি ও মহান এক ব্যক্তি পতিত হয়েছেন?

The king said to his servants, “Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?

39 আর আজ, আমি যদিও অভিষিক্ত রাজা, তবুও আমি দুর্বল, সরূয়ার এই ছেলেরা আমার পক্ষে বড়োই শক্তিশালী। সদাপ্রভু পাপিষ্ঠকে তার পাপকাজের আধারেই প্রতিফল দিন!”

Now I am weak today, though I am an anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too brutal for me. May Yahweh repay the evildoer by punishing him for his wickedness, as he deserves.”
